    I want to express my deep appreciation to Leigh Bardugo for such an incredible inspiration. I didn't get to choose one character for the video, because EACH character is so unique and wonderful!
    So I decided to dedicate this to the strong, beautiful women I love with all my heart. Thank you very much!
    I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SECOND SEASON!
    It's a pretty easy video, but from the heart!

    • @jellybaebi
      @jellybaebi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      rsvos You’ve completely missed the point. No one is saying that it’s wrong to say “I’m strong”, it’s just that these women don’t NEED to say it because it’s already abundantly clear in their actions. The show’s done great with the whole ‘show, not tell’ thing and it’s so important to have powerful female characters with diversity like this.

    I like be how many things they got right about the source material (and it’s women). Nina’s sass, Inej’s spirituality and how it translates into her actions, Zoya‘s directness and strict set of morals.
    My only issue is Alina. I couldn’t emphasize with her in the books and the fact that they made her Shu in the movies and added Racism, but somehow no interest or appreciation for the Shu culture on her part seemed tone deaf and unappreciative of different cultures to me🤷🏻‍♀️ There were so many opportunities to integrate her heritage into her character arc. There are literally multiple occasions where she attends events with Shu ambassadors present and somehow they didn’t take the time to have one interaction?! So just to be clear, my issue isn’t with them changing Alina’s race, but the fact that the only purpose this transition seemed to have was to isolate her further, instead of exploring different cultures in the Grishaverse and actually adding diversity.

    • @troublemaker833
      @troublemaker833 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m not even saying I want her to embrace the culture: Shu see Grisha as a life form below humans and experiment on them, so I would have been fine with her despising them. But I would have liked to see some sort of identity struggle there. As it is Alina behaves and interacts with others as though she was white and the only times someone seems to remember her heritage is when people feel like insulting her. This just seems like an act of token diversity. There’s more to producing a diverse show than adding characters of color and sprinkle it with racist insults. They actually (in my personal opinion) did this really well with Inej: Her spirituality and struggle with moral, her search for her parents; you can tell that she has a different cultural background without having to remark it. Alina… not so much.

    1:04. I like her line. Although it is technically wrong because she did need him when she was about to be killed by a Fjerda in the earlier episodes. However she was only in that position because he had kidnapped her, so I give her a pass.
    Although the Fjerda would have tried to kill her either way because they noticed her sun summon so even if the military had left her alone they would still hunt her down. And she probably doesn't have enough skill to survive on her own yet. So maybe he did save her by kidnapping her after her power was exposed even if he did save her to use her.
    However she only released her power because she was in the Fold because he created it, and this is complicated.
    I'm just going to say that I like her line.
