I can vouch. Listen to these videos and hit him up. I had doubts and decided to reqch out to Sam. He is totally legit and will actually answer your questions and help you on your journey. Humbled by his willingness to help complete strangers. #newresident
Sam is right! Virginia is clearly the better city, but Newport News is very underrated. Especially with it being easier to access Williamsburg as well as Richmond.
I grew up in NoVa and recently moved back to VA after being away for 17 years. We decided on NN and love it! I agree that the downtown area is less than desirable but there really isn't anything to do down there. We're in the Greater Hilton area and there is nothing like it on the other side of the river-- It has a village vibe with city amenities. In addition, my spouse commutes to Norfolk and it takes him less than 30 minutes to get to work. His co-workers live in the VA Beach, Suffolk and the Chesapeake area and their commutes are over an hour!
The small area of Hilton is the only decent part of Newport News. It was a lot more special in the 60's and 70's. But crime is creeping in, unfortunately.
This assessment of both cities is fair and honest. However, I don’t think that there is a real competition between NN and Virginia Beach. Time-wise, the cities are very far apart (especially when taking the HRBT into consideration). In fact, routinely commuting across the HRBT is so onerous that if you have a job on the Southside (where VB, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk and Portsmouth are located) then that is where you probably should choose to live. If you have a job on the Peninsula (where NN, Williamsburg, York County, Poquosin and James City are located) you probably should choose to live there. If you are really adamant about wanting to enjoy aspects of both cities, I would strongly suggest choosing a city between NN and VB like Norfolk or Hampton. As a longtime local, I’d only recommend commuting between NN and VB to someone I REALLY HATED!
I really appreciate your comment, primarily because I had similar thoughts when making the video. I also feel that they have a lot of differences, almost to where it feels like they would be hard to compare. That being said, I felt compelled to make this because I do think there are a good amount of people who are planning to live in the area and see Virginia Beach or Newport News on that map and don't have any context as to what the differences are and might want to go to one city or the other without full context. So I think for people who have lived here for a long time they might not feel very similar. But for people who have never been to Hampton Roads, giving some perspective to know what these areas are like and comparing them might give them enough understanding to know which area to focus on when they move here.
@@tyinva1212 where have you been outside of Virginia and for longer than a month? Ijs because most virginia lovers I've met haven't left the state for long, and from what it sounds like you probably haven't either. Plus you don't know shit about me, so stop pretending.
@iceqtip2764 kitty hawk North Carolina. Ft myers Florida, las Vegas, Chicago, to name a few places ive been more than a month. Awe im sorry did you get upset when i responded to your comment!? Lol
@@tyinva1212 no not really. Nice try though. Newport News is where I'm from and to me it's basic AF. I've been to a couple places in NC (Columbus county and OBX of course) , TX, Portland Oregon, Chicago, NYC, Orlando, and a few others. To me, Newport News is basically any other basic ass mid size city. I live up in the denbigh area. Probably the most basic ass thing about this area is people around here over hyping this area when we don't have a damn thing that no one else doesn't have. Alot of the locals over hype this area and can't seem to give a good reason as to what makes this place unique. Newport News really ain't got shit outside of restaurants let's be real, and a lot of the people arent that fun to spend time with unless they came from somewhere else. And I'm from here so it's no outsider hate. Ijs.

Are you kidding me?? Newport News is a horrible city!
Property tax in Va beach is astronomical. Newport News is geographically sound to the rest of the state.
MANY THANKS FOR YOUR SO GOOD VIDEOS SAM..... GREETINGS FROM EGYPT💐
The truth as always! Thank you for making these videos and sharing the truth.

Would you be able to make more videos about Hampton VA? I'm thinking of moving there as a cheaper option but I'm not too sure about the neighborhoods
Very high crime.
Jet noise = freedom
It's no contest. Va. Beach is a lot better than Newport News.
Which area has getter amount of mosquitoes?
Poquoson
Newport News is wayyyyyyyy better
Newport News is not better than anywhere else in existence. Try getting out sometime.
