  • Sky News host Chris Kenny says it is “hard to believe” Jim Chalmers is the Treasurer after his speech about nuclear energy today.
Mr Chalmers slammed the proposal of nuclear into Australia’s energy grid - labelling it the “dumbest policy ever put forward by a major political party”.
“That may have been the dumbest little summary of our energy debate that I have ever heard,” Mr Kenny said.
“He could have been actually describing his own government’s plans to replace our fossil fuel energy system with renewables.”

What data shows Australia in rapid decline? The IEA admits that once an energy grid hits 30% renewables (which Australia is already at) nuclear energy is unaffordable. If we had of gone nuclear 20 years ago before renewables then yes it might have worked, but not now.

Just remember that for nuclear to progress smoothly, we need overwhelming Liberal at all State levels, as well as Federal. Also, we need Liberals controlling the Senate so that the necessary legislation can pass. If you vote for BS parties, e.g. greens, they will get seats in the Senate and make it difficult, if not impossible, to pass nuclear-related legislation.
The problem is that the majority of the population doesn't care and doesn't know about all the important political issues that will make or break the successful progression of nuclear power plants. They need to wake up and understand what is required, or be prepared to live in darkness, with constant blackouts, as our power needs increase, but our power generation capacity decreases.

key mistake is thinking that the transformation is a 10 year problem. Its a 20-30-50+ year programme to get to net-zero. Even then the replacement of materials from hydrocarbons must be addressed, together with steel, cement & aluminum manufacture. The renewable life cycle is typically 20 years, so nuclear can be second wave to replace gas too. Unavoidable as wind/solar cannot supply 24/7 power requirements, and batteries are not practical at the huge scale required. Finally there is no integrated planning across Eastern States Governments, power Companies and Federal Government.

Have thesepeople looked into the cost and problems with battery backup for the avoidance of blackouts. Intermittence is not acceptable especially if you. Get rid of petrol.diesel, gas, oil. Stoppages would destroy every service in the country. Base load security is impossible without constant supplies like gas or nuclear.

The gaggle of activist sphincters currently running this beautiful country will always argue against nuclear as they could never admit to being so very wrong about their successful campaign to ban nuclear in Australia 25-30 years ago. These inflated ego's are the same reason we cant have (and always avoid) any sensible conversations about energy in Australia.

1 kg of coal runs a washing machine from 6 hours. Available 24/7
1 kg of oil runs a washing machine for 9 hours. Available 24/7
1 kg of renewables runs a washing machine for less than 1 hour. Available only when the wind is blowing and the sun is shinning. Nominally 30% of the time in Australia.
1 kg of Uranium runs a washing machine for 2000 years. Available 24/7. WARNING - The washing machine may not last 2000 years.
I wonder which energy source makes sense.
