Another easy thing you can do is boot to a command prompt with the Windows 7/8/server disk and run chkdsk /r /f on the C: drive. You could also pull the drive, and place it in a usb enclosure or slave it in a desktop and run checkdisk /r /f. Always backup your data before in case the drive is in a state of degradation and beginning to completely fail. Nice music at end of video!!

Tried this but it didn't work :/ it started happening when windows restarted automatically to install updates. When it rebooted the same error screen appeared (but I am using windows 7 on an hp touch smart pc .-.?). I can't even get into safe mode.
From the F8 menu, I selected safe mode w/ command prompt as I meant to try running Dr. Watson. But I didn't have to actually go that far since the last update automatically reversed itself that way ~.~

For everyone here looking for answers i found out what is causing this error... I was just installing Window 7 (fresh install) The problem was memory stick related. Once I found a pair of good working and compatible sticks of memory the problem went away. Sometimes might be related to dual channel population ( i had this error with one stick installed) Once I had two sticks that worked the system started installation of Windows 7. I'm building a retro rig with Intel Atom and Nvidia chipset. Good luck!
You can try Last Known Config, if it doesn't work try Safe Mode with Command Prompt and once you can type: "chkdsk /f /r" without quotes. Yes to unmount if it asks. If you can't get to either of those then you'll need a Windows CD to boot off of and do the repairs/commands from that.

Hum. So it looks like the reason was because the update failed

Tried this for my Pavilion dv7-6178 and it still just goes to the BOSD after the "starting windows" logo screen.
The Dark Knight Possibly a bad Mother board then.All DV series are notorious for bad chipsets and solder joints disconnecting.
