The issue with the fps happened for me when I started up Dragon Age: Origins recently. Went up to 1500+ fps and 100% usage on my 3070. Fortunately vsync fixed it, but still. Hearing my fan going insane freaked me out. At least for older games, it's likely more an issue that they had no reason to ever think it could cause something like that and didn't do anything to prevent it.
So I've noticed. It never once had any issues with my old rig when I played when it came out over a decade ago, but it likes having weird glitches and random crashes on my current one.

dragon age origins is also optimized for single cores or dual cores at most, it has TERRIBLE optimization for modern rigs
