Slavoj Zizek is one of the greatest thinkers of our time. Of all the wretchid things our generation has been responsible for on this planet, Slavoj Zizek and Julian Assange make me still feel an ounce of pride to be human in this time and age.
I thought it was very fitting. Since he is discussing deep existential topics, you cant help but be inspired. Specially if youve seen the film Melancholia
Optimistic film.. optimistic video, thankyou! I once heard Christopher Hitchens say that, in a few billion years, when our sun dies, the creatures that witness it's demise, will be as different to us humans, as we are to bacteria. I don't know how true that is, but it fills me with amazement and wonder of our existence.
All good, but you can't underestimate the power of perpetual fear for your life, insecurity, and so on.. that's an essential fuel along with the 'water' Zizek mentioned in the video 'eternal spiritual acceptance' to keep the engine of life running. Equilibrium between a sense of rationalism and romanticism!

Fuckin A when I watched Melancholia I was rooting for the other planet to crash into Earth. Like I was nervous as fuck and every time they put the wire up to the moon I got butterflies in my stomach, but when it was certain that the planet would crash into Earth it was like I could hear a gust of wind 3 blocks away. It creates just such a serene, peaceful acceptance of the inevitable, and a feeling that all things are just as they are and because they are.
Hey, great clip! and i like zizek. if i may ask a question, i am a beginner amateur film maker and i'm trying also to make some educational non commercial clips for philosophy lectures . i'm using some clips from movies too and i wanted to ask if you know if there is any copyright problem with using these short 30 seconds clips from movies?
Zizek has a seriously weird definition of happiness. Of course you're happy in the "creative fever". Of course scientists are happy while making great discoveries, even if they suffer.
@@thelasttruegamer Yeah, they define happiness in an overly strict way and then go "Hahaha happiness is worthless!" When happiness is actually all anyone strives for in my opinion... sometimes by inventing self-serving definitions of words.
+Gonçalo Costa Ya, I think that was a failure on my part. I tried to show people "suffering" (intense practice, training, etc) for what they wanted. But it's still always enjoyable to watch some ice jazz.
I find most of these points very interesting, although I have to disagree that "happiness is an unethical category." I find that almost masochistic. You can be happy whilst helping others and developing yourself.
My only complaint, and you can call me an asshole, but there needs to be a narrator who can cover the authors material and doesn't have as bad a lisp...
Starving people desire food. Sickened people Desire to be well. Poor people desire a better a life. Guess none of them really want that. Meanwhile those living with plenty off food, finances and physical health must be miserable because of it? Moronic. This is what happens when someone has the luxury of being a professional philosopher.. detachment from the real world.
none of those are desires for a fantasy, those are drives.. (albeit that the last one ; poorness is not necessarily opposite from a good life, not that it might not be improved; but then you find that money doesn't improve your life beyond a certain threshold, either)
if Zizek sees you turned his thoughts into a motivational video he will commit seppuku but not before telling a joke
He is like a raging youtube commenter lol
lol...and so on and so on
"you are ready to suffer" what žižek says to his neoliberal enemies before brutally murdering them with a fiendish grin.
"*sniff*"
dibble and so on and so on

nice
he ain’t all that.
calm down.
The images and music seem too positive and uplifting, while the point he is making is much more serious, sobering and challenging.
this is the intent
uplifting has to be that way
haha trying to make a slavoj zizek rant into an inspirational video is just a weird combination. i like the effort though!
I thought it was very fitting. Since he is discussing deep existential topics, you cant help but be inspired. Specially if youve seen the film Melancholia
i think it is surprising how well it worked :)
Rant? Really? Lol
I just love him.
This video has actually made me interested in Zizek.
One of my favourite videos on TH-cam. Thank you for this. Keep going :)

thanks for uploading this
Beautiful piece of art this is. A jewel.... Good job!
Actually insightful to my mind

The dream of the thing is better than actually having the thing. The best things in life are the things most unsuspecting, I have noticed.
this video was seriously formational for me. Thank you
There's a book about this called Stumbling on Happiness.
Omfg at 0:57 i took this street each time driving to my mistress. Warsaw Poland.
So did Zizek. To the same girl.

Very thought provoking!
classic core core
I adore him
no the actual problem is the stupid background music.
Agree.
Background music oddly fits. Thanks for the vid.
I love youre videos! Keep it up!

Facing mortality is the exercise most people avoid. It usually happens late in life. ;-)
nice video! a few observations: he says category and not contegrity and at the beginning he does not say made soviet but male chauvinist.
Does a happy person need to think about own happiness?
make more zizek videos like this!
"We don't really want what we think we want."
In that case what do we aspire to?
to the phantasm
We desire desire itself.
Hypocritical things
This is a very good way of looking at the left.
The scenario of wife and mistress reminded me of svidrigailov in crime and punishment.
does any one else listen to him just because, like, asmr ?
wait 5 years and look again
red skippy wtf
yea
@@phronessys the source of your confusion is that you waited 2 years too long!

Why Be Happy When You Could Be Interesting?
@GrockJake On what grounds do you derive these binding "shoulds"?
Zizek has a seriously weird definition of happiness. Of course you're happy in the "creative fever". Of course scientists are happy while making great discoveries, even if they suffer.
Exactly, this is always the problem with discussions about hedonism, utilitiarianism, etc. People are way too sloppy about establishing definitions

What is the movie at the first scene with ice hockey?
the first part of the video is so random.
There is always room for hockey. Its the jazz of sport.
Sincerely Toronto Canada
Relations with the wife are cold... :P

Soundtrack?
Background music is horrible. Disturbing!

Wow
Slavoj Zizek - You Are Ready to Sniffer
fuck, I'm now completely demotivated.
Zizek is being optimistic though.
Awful music in the background! Please don't hesitate to ask for educated guess from friends!
As an educated friend, I find the music good. ;)
Smartness Guy around and to think this little Blue Collar truck driver figured him OUT.
fuck it
people are turning zizek into a kinda of peterson
I think English may actually be his 4th language...
Just spoiled the movie...
Who wants to see a debate between the four horsemen: Slavoj Zizek, Jordan Peterson, Sam Harris and Ben Shapiro? Let's make it happen...
do it better and post it ;)

Total mismatch between his ideas and the images/music. A swing and a miss...
Wrong

There is a difference between desire and necessity.
of course - they're the opposite
the "Real" world :D
You are in your own fantasy, totally detached as well
