    Her voice got raspier as she got older. It was awesome. She was a mezzo soprano and I looked up her range was 2 octaves, 3 notes and A semitone (D3-G#5). Her voice was really sweet in her early years but by mid to late 93 and onto 95 her voice was raspier, huskier, and lower, I loved every bit of it.

    • @thundererswrath2185
      @thundererswrath2185 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually it got updated to 3 octaves and 6 notes or something like that. Btw-LOVE your channel!

  • @thundererswrath2185
    @thundererswrath2185 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It’s pretty clear that people are evaluating her voice without knowing her background. Singing in Spanish, the lower, heavier, resonant and powerful tones are what is necessary to sing the type of Latin music she sang. Quite frankly, you had a female of Whitney-esque power singing songs at a vocal level not really commonly used for the genre. This is why her lows are so well rounded. Her higher belt is there and stunning. Especially when you take into account that she’s dancing at full force, moving around the stage (in heels) and not missing a single note. I mean the disco medley had her hitting C5’s and Eb5’s effortlessly. Seen some other videos of Christina and other ladies straining to hit such notes just standing there! Selena wasn’t even concentrating on the notes. They just came out perfect because she was blessed by God with that AMAZING powerhouse voice. She had mentioned vocal lessons which I feel were to help her get used to her higher register. Her known range is a 3 octave 2 semi-tone range I believe. Frankly I think had she continued, she’d reach a fourth octave easily as she progressed with her training. As correctly stated here by our host, her head voice was bright and powerful. Could be piercing. Check out “A boy like that” which she recorded a month before she died. As well as “I’m getting used to you” which are all clearly in the Soprano range. Selena was clearly blessed with a voice that could go anywhere she wanted to. It’s a shame that we won’t get to see the true power that voice held. She wasn’t even trying and was already in the DIVA ranges. It’s a damn shame.....

      She wasn't just there, she won! :) The performance was the one in this video that started at 6:16. Fun fact: Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum agreed to do a wax figure of Selena. Selena's mother, Marcela Quintanilla, wanted Selena in the outfit she wore when she won the Grammy (same outfit at 7:50) but the company that owns the Grammy wouldn't have allowed a replica of the award, so instead they picked the outfit from the performance that won her the Grammy, which is the album "Live!"

    If it wasn't for Selena, Jlo wouldn't have a career. Selena got the voice, can dance and for all we know can act as well. She would have been an ICON and LEGENDARY artist by now.

    With the genre of music she sang there wasn’t really room to really show case her vocal ability. I like how she was the only female in her genre at the time who incorporated R&B type of vocals into her performances.
    Her brother A.B who was also her song composer actually told a story about how he made a song called “La Llamada”. th-cam.com/video/om3KWmuFRAA/w-d-xo.html He specially directed Selena to really belt out R&B style vocals for that song. Their dad (their manager) when he heard it for the first time was really shocked & a little upset with them because what she was doing in the song didn’t match their Tejano genre. Their dad wanted her to re-record the song but the record label liked the original recording & so they kept it the way it was. That song is what made her label EMI Latín finally agree to let her record an English album.

    She said it many times she was inspired by Donna Summer, her fav artist. She designed her own clothes, too. Thank you for this reaction of R.I.P SELENA🙏

    Thank you for reacting my patreon! A lot of people havent heard her and she's an amazing vocalist! A good showcase of her vocals is her with the Barrio boyz live, she does a lot of runs there because it's more of an R&B take. Watch it if you like :) th-cam.com/video/gCJgqd5_P2Y/w-d-xo.html

    She first started singing in English but Spanish was her first outlet of success . She didn’t know how to speak nor sing Spanish . She was born in lake Jackson Texas , so she had to learn how to speak and sing in Spanish .. she was amazing in both languages , oh god how I wish she was still alive 😢 😭

    Selena had the potential to be the Latin Mariah Carey vocally. Her style reminds me of the Young early 90s Mariah.

      100% QFT! Listen to the sampling on this video. She had a higher register she NEVER really used. People keep assuming she's a Mezzo. She wasn't. That was the range she used for her genre in Spanish and thus was the most comfortable with.

      Selena is Selena, unlike Mariah Carey Selena did it in both English & Spanish, I love me some Mariah but Selena is in lane of her own.

    • @BrooklynBabeee
      @BrooklynBabeee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kayteeelle Oh I know. I mean full alums, Grammy worthy hunnnay. Many people try it just like Beyoncé, but aren’t able to acquire Spanish/Latin fan base & Tbh they don’t sound as fluent & efficient like they do in their native language let alone sing live, I mean or else they’d be known for it. Just like many artist try to crossover into acting.. doesn’t tend to work.

    • @kayteeelle
      @kayteeelle ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrooklynBabeee That’s pretty redundant considering none of Selena’s English music won a Grammy. None of that has anything to do with my initial analogy lol
