Steve Foley served as the 30th flight leader and the 16th commanding officer of the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels.
A native of Charlestown, Mass., Foley reported to the Blue Angels in late 2004 after commanding Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 82 and graduating with honors from the Naval War College.
Foley graduated from Hamilton College in 1984 and received his commission through the Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School in February 1985. He was designated a naval aviator at Meridian, Miss., in September 1986.
Foley served in various F/A-18 Hornet squadrons, and also taught many fighter pilots as the Top Gun training officer. He deployed numerous times and has flown missions over Iraq in support of Operation Southern Watch. Following his department head tour in 1998, he was awarded the Michael G. Hoff Attack Aviator of The Year Award by Commander, Naval Air Forces Pacific.
In December 1998, he reported again to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, Naval Air Station Fallon, Nev., as the Top Gun division officer and NSAWC standardization officer.
Foley accumulated more than 5,300 flight hours in Navy aircraft and 780 carrier-arrested landings. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Individual Air Medal (Combat Distinguishing Device), six Strike Flight Air Medals, four Navy Commendation Medals (one Combat Distinguishing Device), two Navy Achievement Medals, and numerous campaign, unit and service awards.

These videos just get better and better! Growing up in Pensacola watching the Blues (practice and shows) for 44 yrs, there is a speacial place in my heart for every one of them! I have spent the last several months collecting some ot the best plastic model kits of the F-4J, A-4F and FA-18 and plan on building each one in tribute to these guys and gals that make this incredible team work! My ultimate goal is to have one of my builds displayed in the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola where a lot of my childhood was spent and where I still take my kids to this day! Keep the videos rolling in Ryan and thank you so much!

I am intrigued by these interviews with the Blue Angels and this one is no exception. I am from the Boston area, got drafted in 1965, and joined the Navy. After Ae”A” school at NAS JAX, I got orders to Va174 NAS Cecil Field . It was the foundation for my entire future (All military and Law enforcement) . My story is way too long for this comment section. Thank you sir for your service.

It is cool to think that may of these interviews are with individuals I also had a chance to see perform. A dream come true that I will never know, to be a Blue Angel. What an honor that would be!

Having spent all my life in Maryland, I believe their is a second part to that national treasure and that is the U.S. Naval Academy, I've had the privilege throughout the years to meet countless military personnel and while their all heroes in my mind, I will admit that meeting Navy/Marine personnel always is something special, cause a lot of them got their start at Annapolis!

Waiting for one on LCDR Bob Stephens. He was my Division Officer in VA 56 77-79: is great guy. Ran into him in a Pensacola barbershop when he was a BA. He remembered me and we reminisced!
    Hope he is doing well!
