I agree. There needs to be a complete local management interface that does not need internet to work. Only way I would consider buying.

"lifetime support" many does forget it is not your lifetime, it is the products lifetime or the company's lifetime.

Catch 22 - IF you're OFFLINE you can NOT reconfigure Cloud devices to go back ONLINE

Yeah, I bought a Winston with a forever license ... It worked great until it didn't. After dropping support, they no longer hosted their webpage so I can no longer log into my Winston to use the built in features they said they still support. Not happy, but moving on. Some day I really want to get into that pfsense you keep reporting on.

Timely. I just went through a bin of stuff that’s been collecting dust for several years and found it full of stuff to send to e-waste, including a long-forgotten about CUJO.

This happens too often in all markets. Horrible startup CEO with fast car and habits got the cash. Leaving a deficit in the user's pocket and an environmental impact 😢

Talking about broken cloud promises, did you hear about the huge problems with cloud provider IFX Networks?

I got burned by Cujo but what do you think about RatTrap Security?

My buddy got burned by the Norton cloud security appliance. It ran for a couple years at his daughters house before they pulled the plug and it died.

i'd definitely be hesitant to buying a firewall or security appliance that started on a crowdfunding platform.

    Hi
    Lawrence,
I have a Unifi Switch Flex that I've used to connect a U6 mesh and a G4 Bullet for power and internet. Now, I'm looking to also connect my Apple TV to this PoE switch for internet access. However, I'm concerned about the possibility of damaging my Apple TV due to the PoE connection. Your guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I avoid all subscription or cloud devices for all the same reasons. Why end up potentially tied to a subscription for life or risk a cloud failure?

Hey Tom, as always, appreciate your great videos 👏👏👏 Can you please do a review on Ruijie Networks (WiFi 6 WAPs, Switches, Security Gateway). Cheers! 👌

Why does your average Joe who has no idea about networks need a special dedicated firewall???? Isn't in the ISP provided CPE (Customer premises Equipment) [ so called "WiFi router"] with it's built-in firewall good enough? I get it some of the home users have more knowledge about networking but please get a ubiquiti networks device or some Cisco small business router firewall combo device like I have one at home. They aren't too complex. Just watch some videos read articles and you're good to go. Cisco has an excellent user manual on how to set their Soho stuff up and what function does what is also described. If everything else fails then ask in forums and so on but don't get one of those weird home use firewalls.
Not even I know what on earth that firewall does - if it's to replace your wifi router or whatever 😂
Quick warning I don't have much networking knowledge but it's enough to set up those Cisco Soho routers

My rant about cloud management: what if it relies on the internet connectivity. Whoops I have a typo in some config. Now I have no internet access anymore due to me messing up a important setting. Well how do I change it back without resetting that thing when I can't access the configuration? 😂
