- April is both Financial Literacy Month and School Library Month in the Commonwealth. It’s important to encourage responsible financial planning and personal budgeting, as well as recognize the role of school libraries in education throughout the state of Virginia.
Reading Makes Cents helps Virginia elementary students learn financial concepts through their school libraries. For over seven years, Virginia529 and Virginia Council on Economic Education have partnered to provide free resources to schools all around the Commonwealth. Over $50,000 in 529 accounts have been awarded to students while they learn about financial literacy topics like scarcity, choices, money, and saving for the future. You have a chance to win $529 towards higher education by participating in the Reading Challenge.
