To all the USA people here, read this. When we all get into fights [modern times] we cannot punch anymore...Well, if you do, you get suspended for weeks and fined heavily. So you just see jumper grabs and pushing. If you let down your team, and snot people,,, you will get suspended. That's why we don't erupt like, say in baseball.
In the NFL each team spends $100 million on player salary with 32 clubs that's a total of in excess of $3 billion per season, on top of that is the money the NFL spends on advertising. By comparison the AFL spends $263 million per year on player payments, that is shared between 18 clubs, with advertising is also included in this amount. Basically 2 NFL teams spend as much on player payments as the whole AFL. As far as the contact goes AFL is a 360degree game, meaning you can get hit from any direction, most hits in NFL occur on the line of scrimmage from the person directly in front of you, yes the quarter back and designated receivers, particularly wide receivers can get hit from other directions but in AFL every player can be hit from any direction and not only by their immediate opponent but by any player in the position to do so. With regards to the skills in NFL it is generally only the quarterback that are skilled in passing, those on or near the line of line of scrimmage are skilled in blocking, the receivers are the players that rush down field to catch or receive the long pass from the quarterback, and rushing is usually done by the running back or quarterback. The thing is with NFL players on the field each have specific and unique skill sets and they are good in those areas. Each team actually has on offensive and a difference team as well as a special plays team, further individualizing a player's skill set. There may be only two players on the whole team that can kick the ball in American FOOTball. In AFL all players on the team are required to master all the skills of handballing, Kicking, tackling, marking and bouncing. With NRL most plays last as much than 30 seconds at which time the players can stop and regroup, where as in AFL there can be 5 minutes of continuous play where the players are required to cover large areas of ground at full speed while still being able to carry out their full skill set. Also the AFL ground is several times the size of an NFL gridiron. But as Chris says the worst thing about NFL is the sense of security the padding gives them. It was common for players on the line of scrimmage to lead with their helmet. Padding is a bit like airbags, they are great protecting you in a head on collision but not quite so when you are hit side on by a fully laden garbage truck. The padding is for the head on collision, the game is based around the garbage truck collision.
I'm an Aussie, at THAT is how we play our sports. I played FULL-CONTACT, NO rules SOCCER for two years, until I got a broken leg and fractured vertebrates. That's after all the elbows, kicks to the head etc. We ALWAYS shook hands at the end and drank together
In AFL you are allowed to "bump" an opponent however, if you choose to do so and make contact with the opponents head you will be fined or suspended. Most of those players would have been suspended. It's a tough game.
who else relises that americans act like they have the toughest sport but when they see afl they astonished on how hard the hits arebut still say they have the toughest sport???
The guy with the bloody face had to go off the ground not so much because he needed medical attention but rather because there is a 'blood rule' in Aussie rules. Any player with free flowing blood must go off the ground and is substituted off via the interchange. The trainers clean up the blood, and if possible stop the bleeding using petroleum jelly and bandages to help stop the free flow of blood. And if you pass the medics concussion test you are right to go back on the field.
America: We have the toughest football Australia: Hold my football America: No ef that, you aint got no paddings Australia: You want what? America: Paddings and a helmet Australia: You mean tampons?
I'm an Aussie that loves Aussie Rules (not so much the AFL these days as it's been sanitised to within an inch of its life), but don't think for one second, that getting smashed by a 6foot8, 300 pound linebacker doesn't hurt just because you're wearing pads and a helmet!
The bloke who rammed the opposition player into the post is the dirty sniper named Luke Hodge who is known to be a "good bloke" apparently? Got suspended as a result of the incident for 2 matches.
ibd1977 the most fucking bullshit suspension. 2 weeks for almost taking a fucking guys head of!!! The inly reason he didnt get a decent amount of time is because he plays on the same team as the umpires!
Will Gardner. Will I said love, I said pet I said love. Please, please, please try to understand me. That, no name will one day look back with pride that the great Luke Hodge, started his first plastic surgery treatment. As for your Hawthorn envy, well son, there is seventeen loses and one winner, and for the last 30 years Hawthorn has dominated. So endeth the lesson.
As a Crows supporter I wouldn't have been opposed to an attempted murder charge being leveled against the sniper Hodge. Historically 'the family club' Hawthorn seems to be full of players who have no problem playing the game outside the scope of good sportsmanship. Yet the Kennett propaganda machine puts them on the pedestal of great players. Hawthorn stars are mostly thugs, rabid animals and head hunters given a free leash from the AFL.
The first 3 hits were done by Steven May of Gold Coast, he was suspended for 5 weeks for the first one if memory serves me correctly, that was probably the worst of this compilation. The suplex throw was pretty bad, pretty sure he was concussed and missed a week or 2, the offender was suspended for 3 I think. Chad Wingard was the guy that hit the post, he was OK after that, it kinda fired him up and from memory he kicked a couple of goals shortly after. You guys need to react to AFL marks "AFL - Best Marks 2016 (Vine Compilation)" "AFL Top 10 Marks 2017: So Far" Marks are catches and AFL players have great hops, very spectacular part of our game.

Players have died in this sport. Average size is about 6'2'', and about 100kg. SUPER fit athletes, and ironically, most of them are pretty boys off field. SERIOUSLY. Go Brisbane Lions!
@@willtyers1376 That has absolutely nothing to do with the game and everything to do with that mans biology no one has ever been killed in AFL or VFL as a direct result of a hit or game play. Smart ass doesn't fit you find something else to wear..
About the player who pushed the other player's head into the post, may I just say this. I agree wholeheartedly, as a true Luke Hodge fan, I can say with my hand over my heart that I feel sorry for the post. If Hodge had meant any harm at all, the player would still be in the I.C.U.
The clip was the size of a postage stamp, and as entertaining as it was I,m sorry but i cant watch you and your girlfriend oohing and aghing for 10 mins. Poor effort
A legendary player is Dermott Brereton who received 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung at the start of the Grand final (Superbowl). And kept playing.
