@@amandaduspiva1378 it's literally just marshmallows and icing sugar. i don't have any measurements i just melt the marshmallows in the microwave then keep adding icing sugar until it gets like a dough 💕
You played yourself 😂 it’s better to peel it off and throw it in the bin than to find a tasty way to make something so unhealthy. It just spikes insulin and makes you gain weight in the long run. 😅
Until relatively recently, all “occasion” cakes (wedding etc) were dense fruit cake covered in marzipan and fondant. Often with really intricate icing and decorations, think “fairy tale castle with coach & horses” all made from royal icing. My own wedding cake was unusual in that it had a chocolate cake tier, still fondant icing, though. It was traditional to keep the top tier of the cake for either the first anniversary or the birth of the first child. And they generally weren’t frozen, either. Some young women would take the slice they received from the bride and groom and place it (wrapped, ofc) under their pillow, in hopes they would dream of their future groom! Can’t do that with sponge & buttercream ;) My grandmother had a drawer in her dressing table that contained a slice of iced fruitcake from each of her children and other relatives’ weddings, all still wrapped in the original paper serviettes, along with a piece of the decoration from each cake. Nothing was mouldy at all. I was fascinated by it as a child.
Ive never heard of putting it under your pillow. We've always put that top in the freezer wrapped really well, then on first Anniversary eat a piece of cake..
@@JCArules13 sugar is a great preservative in large amounts. It’s usually a royal icing if it isn’t fondant, and simply dries out a bit. The cakes used to be soaked in an alcohol, often brandy, but other spirits or liqueurs were sometimes used. Even in the late 90s, I had two cakes, heart shaped, next to each other in a board. Both decorated in plain white fondant, one was a rich chocolate cake and the other was a traditional fruitcake (except no marzipan, nuts or mixed peel - by in-laws’ request). The chocolate had my name on & the fruitcake had my husband’s - because I hate fruitcake (despite making one every year for Xmas for the last 30+ years). The remains of the fruitcake lasted for ages. The chocolate cake had to be finished off that week. Fortunately I already had small children at the time.
My wedding cake decorator told me , you can have a cake that looks great or one that people will want to eat. We went for the one people would want to eat, meaning butter cream. The cake was designed as stacked Christmas gifts ( Christmas themed wedding), she only used fondant for the bows and wrapping paper type decorations. It was delicious. Fondant cakes are fancy, but to me fondant reminds me of toothpaste. No regrets with choosing buttercream.
I used fondant once. It was way too thick because I'm a complete newb. So it was completely overwhelming the cake. But... in a weird way also kinda satisfying to eat. Like eating huge chunks of chewy candy.
I really don't like buttercream. All I can taste is butter and I love butter, but not on cake. Fondant tastes sweet, but that's fine. I'm always thrilled when I find out someone has fondant instead of buttercream on their cake. It means I won't end up scraping the frosting off my cake. If you hate fondant, a. you're wrong but that's okay, and b. I'll eat it for you as long as you take that thick glob of buttercream from my cake.
I think everyone has their own taste on what kind of cake decoration/flavor and I don't like fancy cakes because the classic way is underrated but I do like watching people make beautiful designs ❤
Do you use Modeling chocolate for cakes at all? Just wondering, because I have seen that used on some YT videos for decorating. But Fondant can look great, especially on a wedding cake. I'm actually a fruit cake lover, so still really like the old traditional fruitcake wedding cakes with the fondant. But, I prefer the fondant that does not have the almond tasting extract in it.
I've seen people coat cakes in modeling chocolate or straight ganache, but the cost of chocolate is higher than marshmallows and powdered sugar used for fondant.
I have seen cakes with modeling chocolate sheets on it, same as fondant, and also with straight ganache, but that's sensitive to heat. And the cost of chocolate is much higher than the marshmallows and powdered sugar for making fondant.

Fondant can definitely be useful for certain effects but the problem is that there are some Cake Artists, particularly on TH-cam, who are much too reliant on it. It often can be the easier option but I reckon it should be a last resort and used very purposefully. That wedding cake is a great example of using fondant with a very clear purpose but not overdoing it. A cake entirely covered in fondant is pretty unpleasant compared to buttercream, but sometimes it can't be avoided, depending on what you're trying to achieve
Total agree! Fondant can be peeled right off. I put crusting buttercream under my fondant cakes, to me, it's the best of both worlds- buttercream for taste and fondant for the design
I've found hacks to make it taste better! You can split it with marshmallows, add flavors and or make it from scratch and adjust the Sweetness to your preference. I do like fondant if it's been adjusted and not the grocery store version.
I had a cake with fondant that was really nice once as well. The flavor didn't matter cause there was a strongly flavored icing underneath, and the texture was just kinda nice to me XD
For anyone who doesn't like regular fondant, there's a really awesome TH-camr named Mimo ("Bake My Day Mimo" is her handle) who has a super delicious recipe that uses melted marshmallows as its base. I've made it myself and got a friend who hates fondant to try it, and we both loved it 😁 If you search "Mimo fondant recipe" it should come up. Also, her channel is awesome, she's a super lovely person with a wicked sense of humour, AND she's a Tigga Mac fan, too! 😁💜
My aunt would load the inside of her cakes with frosting before adding fondant … you could just eat around it and it would separate so easily without losing esthetics or taste
I mean, honestly, while I love a beautiful cake, I would prefer a simply decorated, but tasty cake at my wedding than a fancy, complicated cake that doesn't taste great. Plus, Frosting is my favorite part of the cake, so buttercream over fondant in any situation for me! Your cakes are truly beautiful though.
I like fondant. I know a lot of people hate it. Not all fondant is the same either. For example, Mr Kipling French Fancies are cakes covered in a thin layer of soft fondant that is just perfection. I think some fondant haters have not tried good fondant and assume it's all bad.
I make marshmallow fondant and people love it! When I tell them it’s fondant they say no way this tastes so good! I also use my kitchen torch on it and it tastes like roasted marshmallows.
haven't you ever heard "don't knock it til you try it"? I'm not a big fan of fondant but some people really like it. you could be one of those people if you'd open your mind and give it a chance.
I like the taste and texture of fondant. I think the only thing that would put me off is the thought that it requires a lot of handling, like a stranger's hands all over. On the other HAND (pun not originally, but now totally intended), if you're the one doing the handling, then it's just simply a harder job. But if the only question is to eat or not eat, then id say eat👍
For me it’s more of a texture issue than taste. And the only time I have an issue with it is if the baker barely covers the cake in any frosting before applying the fondant and also doesn’t put enough filling/frosting in between cake layers.
Honestly, I agree so much….. when I was like seven or something my friend had a birthday party, right it was like a really small cake right? And there was like two layers of fondant on it I vomited 😢😅
I make my own fondant, and I love it. Taste really good actually.

Fondant can be flavoured, you know. Like vanilla, banana, etc. It'll still be sweet AF but at least it's gonna have a flavour.
marshmallow fondant
Sounds dangerous. (For my waistline)

The artful way you arrange the flowers is absolutely stunning 🤩 and I LOVE the “piecy” look of the fondant; gold leaf detail… perfection! 🙌🏻
