The clip was intended to be an inside joke, mainly for people who have been following this channel for a while now. And although it may not be obvious to everyone, there is a serious undertone in the video clip: it's about how NOT to make a specific subject more inclusive. So by publishing this part as a separate video, it will lose its context and achieve exactly the opposite of what I intended with it. Personally, I'm not interested in reaching a larger audience for my videos, acquiring more subscribers, or "please" the TH-cam algorithm. Especially if that would mean I have to publish content that is not representative for what I normally do. I just want to interact with an audience that shares a common interest (and in this case, likes to be surprised).

I was watching these videos to understand a bit better my recently purchased 3M-5A lens. I was already finding them very instructional, interesting and relatively easy to follow, but I was not expecting that ending. I had to subscribe immediately. This deserves so many more views.

Having some background in optics during one and a half year at the NatLab, Philips' research institute in Eindhoven, I was simply curious about the topic in general. Around 1990, we still were researching the blue DVD-laser basics and improving the red CD-laser. I was tasked with doing interferometry on the red lasers. Most details (like the Zernike polynomials) I have forgotten during the years since then, but I never lost interest in optics. I own several telescopes and I love to get to grips with their optical properties. The musical end is hilarious and comes totally unexpected, which adds to the surprise. It proves again that nerds have much unexplored potential!
Extraordinary presentation really! Last time I was being taught optics on this level was as a graduate chemistry student studying Optical Spectroscopy... And I'll definitely say you're a VASTLY better educator than the professor I had!

Thank you for this informative video. I will test this with my telescopes APO refractor, Newtonian and Ritchey-chretien. So far I find my Ritchey-chretien to be giving distortion free results but MTF map test will surely quantify it better.

Awesome! Super interesting, great delivery and a funky ending :D It would have been very interesting to learn about the collimation process of the relatively modern Canon 18-55mm kit lens. It has two general adjustment locations. The first are the two white eccentric collars (the third black one is centric) that become visible under the rubber grip (at 55mm). These two collars can tilt the whole main optical block minus the front lens group. The second location is below the front lens group. On the front of the main optical block a lens group, secured by three screws, can be shifted for centering purposes. Maybe you can explain how the centering process works (for center and periphery) for such a zoom lens in another video. Maybe you can even improve your copy. Push it to the max so to speak ;) And as a bonus: the front lens group of the kit lens brings it's own little "ramp". Turned clockwise or counterclockwise (as long as the three screws are not fastened) the distance to the main optical block can be in- or decreased. As far as I know, this is used to set "the optimal division of autofocus movement" over the whole zoom range. Why is that necessary? How does this work? I'd be more than interested :)
