  • The Soldier Fund Podcast episode features Ben Derrick interviewing two National Guard Special Forces soldiers about their experiences and the unique challenges they face. The soldiers discuss their career paths, including the rigorous selection process and the physical and mental demands of their roles. They highlight the importance of teamwork, language proficiency, and cultural understanding in their missions. Man, really great podcast. I'm in texas, and have wondered more than once what it takes to wear a green beret in the national guard. Very valuable information in here. Thank you.

Good podcast. Currently going thru the enlistment for an 18x in active duty, but am attending an event put on by 19th group in my local area next month. I guess it’s a tryout. Might prefer NG SF

A newbie to the channel. I am going into nursing school at the moment but hope to take on this challenge afterwards. I’ve been in the WI NG for almost 9 1/2 years and I’ll be done with nursing school about a year before my contract is up. I need all the advice and tips to help not only myself, but my family as I would be taking my wife and our 3 kids with. Currently almost 28. I have a prior SF who’s been a huge resource and lives not too far from me. National guardsmen officer now and trains smart. What should I do to prep myself and family? How do I maintain consistency for as long as it would take to get to the point of confidence Day 0 of SFAS? How does the guard SF help soldiers who pursue higher education while under contract? I find it difficult to do anything medical wise while in the military and nursing has been where I see the most resistance. Would the Guard SF help a nurse who’s looking to become a CRNA while under contract or would they rather that soldier wait til their contract is fulfilled? As I have been told before, nothing is worth more than your family regardless if it’s a green beret or deployment. What advice would you have for families looking at this lifestyle? I have so many questions and just want to have more resources at my fingertips

So the 2-3 years of training is that broken up or you constantly gone like BCT training?

It’s broken up somewhat, when you finish one school you’ll be waiting for your next class start date

After researching I believe the training is more around a year and a half. 2 years is more so if you’re a medic your school is a little longer and any other schools you might need to attend like airborne, ranger, halo. But you would have passed everything to be a green beret before you go to those schools
