    Hello,
Thanks for your great video. I know it's too late but better than never ask hein :D Just received my Praktica EE2 this week but it has no battery inside so I'm trying in vein to find the suitable batteries for this camera. Do you think that it still can work without any battery inside? Sorry I'm still amateur with these stuffs
Look forward to your reply real soon
    Tks

Pretty sure the shutter on this camera is all electronically controlled and need a battery to works.
You can ususally still take a picture without a battery but the shutter will only fire at one shutter speed, usually 1/125s or 1/60s.
But most cameras of this age has a totally mechanical shutter and those that still has a battery only need that for the light meter.
However you will not find a auto shutter setting or shutter speeds longer then 1 sec on these.
A cameras that have that has a electronically controlled shutter in almost all cases.
There are very few cameras that has a shutter that can be both electronically or mechanicly controlled.

Standard AA, 1.5v will do :)

Quite nice that Petri lens there. By the way, do you know if the manual speeds (1/30-1/1000) are mechanical or battery-dependent? What type of battery did you use? The PX21 is quite expensive.

1/30-1/1000 also needs a battary in order to be used.
You do get a fixed speed without a working battary and I would guess that is is somthing like 1/125s.
And yes the battary is not a very common one and usually very expensive.
So its a little fun when battary cost 4 times more then the camera :)
Don't know of any cheap alternative for that problem.
I would look for other cameras if your looking for a M42 slr with auto shutter.
Yashica TL Electro X is often not that expensive and a nice one.
Chinon CE, CEII or CEIII are problaly one of the best but can also be a bit expensive.
You also have some of the later Fujica which I would guess are nice but have not tested myself.
      Keep snapping!

My mistake the Yashica TL Electro X don't have a auto shutter option but are electronicly controled.

Thanks for the extensive reply. You are referring to the Fujica AZ-1 which I have and I can strongly recommend it, it has a very good viewfinder and also has four MECHANICAL speeds (1/60, 1/250, 1/1000 and B) which is great even when you don't have any batteries or the electronics are dead. The TL Electro-X has no auto mode (I often wondered what's the use of an electronic shutter if there is no autoexposure mode, I much prefer the simpler, more dependable mechanical TL Electro) but there is a M42 auto-exposure Yashica SLR, the Electro-AX which I also have and is a very nice camera, although it is uncommon and usually faulty after all those years. The Memotron I have not yet come across, although you can find the Revueflex copies quite cheaply on eBay.de. My Praktica EE2 just arrived with a Panasonic PX21 still inside and apparently working with good voltage (!). It is close to the L-Prakticas, but it feels much better and more solid, just as you describe in the video.

Not heard of the Yashica Electro-AX befor.
Looks nice and somthing to keep an eye out for.
A electronic shutter can have a better precision then mechanical one.
Electro-X also have a stepless shutter dail so you can get shutter speeds between the fixed stops.
But I also prefer the mechanical which are usually more reliable when it comes to old gear.
Would love to test out the Voigtländer Bessaflex.
But its carzy expecsive so I reserve that to a day when I experiance a to much money problem.

BlogBKSpicture It is essentially the rangefinder Electro 35 principle in the form of an SLR, plus a full manual (meterless) mode. If you can find a working one, the exposure system is just great.

    An AA battery won't work. The EE2 uses a 4.5V PX-21 battery.

      V21 PX (4.5v)
Not very common and a expensive battery when I checked a few years ago.
