Class of ‘73 here. My senior year we won the 2nd State Championship. We were undefeated. I can’t remember if the ‘65 team was undefeated or not. i was just a kid then, but went to every game. :) it was such a fun time. This fall it will be 50 years since our championship. Hard to believe.
Back in 90 or 91 I watched them play Arlington Lamar at Texas Stadium and I swear y’all brought the entire city of Odessa. Nothing but black from floor to roof. Kind of intimidating and awesome.
Exactly bro I been watching Rockmart High and Cedertown high play and I watch the Colquitt county Packers now good teams and watching Friday Night Lights and seeing the Permian Panters story got me into wanting to watch high school football more
I agree, I didnt graduated from Permian, Odessa or Midland but the school I graduated from was Hurricane High Redskins. There for a while it was being kicked around that Redskins was not very PC and to change it. Fortunately they didnt change it but I understand the gut reaction to the thoughts of any schools mascot being changed because "its not PC" as the bleeding heart twats would say.
I always wondered since the late 80's floating into the 90's, why QB's of the school wear 20 or 25. Was like what in the world is this. Are we passing on luck from former players. If i played QB at that school would it be a problem if i wanted to wear 1 or 10! I wouldn't want to wear the same number as former QB's. Kinda like walking in their shadow and athlete's dont like that.

I love that my Panthers got famous! Class of '78. Go MOJO! Yeah, we built that!

One of the things on my bucket list is to go to a Permian game wearing the black and white. I've been a fan since the book. MOJO FOREVER!
Grew up playing GA high school ball, and there are a lot of great teams and rivals in GA. But seeing MOJO vs Midland is on my bucket list!

I played HS football in the early to mid 80s in San Antonio, TX. The are 2 numbers that play QB for Odessa Permian, 20 and 25. We knew that back then.
That’s pretty cool to know actually
So nobody goes to the games anymore 💀💀💀💀 damn
Lots of folks still go and we always represent well on the road! It takes a special game to fill up that stadium.
@@mamalor13 we love Ratliff stadium back in 97 when ohs beat Permian there was over 20,000 people probably closer to 30

It should always be Midland Lee Rebels
What do you mean?

The best way to describe Permian QBs is a running back that passes
Oy, the PTB renamed Robert E. Lee HS (Midland Lee) as Legacy HS.

It's a traditions that they have. If it is an even year the QB wears 20. If it is an odd year they wear 25.
Southern California high school football draws bigger crowds. 5k attended the d2 8 man championship
Then why isn’t it as storied?
Who?
