Everybody is different and has to find out what works best for them. I was type 2 diabetic and obese so I had to be pretty strict very low carb for a long period of time to reverse my diabetes and become fat adapted. I found a bunch of benefits besides reversing my type 2 diabetes: I was able to lower my blood pressure and sharply reduce the meds that I used and reversed my PCOS. I used to frequently suffer from severe migraines and now they are extremely rare. I also lost weight. I did hit a plateau in my weight loss and started to be more strict about my eating window, closing it at 6 pm and just having a cup of unsweetened hot tea in the evenings. That was able to shake a little weight loss again. And finally I had to include a 36-48 hr fast weekly. This has been a protocol that has been sustainable to me. Now that I'm close to my goal weight I'm introducing a meal of higher carbs once very 2 weeks before I go into a long walk. This is to avoid insulin suppression coming from long term very low carb eating. Ben Azadi call its keto-flex to be metabolically flexible
Dr Bickman has said when you are in ketosis you know your insulin levels are low. Knowing your ketones is a good proxy to know what insulin levels might be. He says when ketones are present, you can assume your insulin levels are low.
Sounds like all is going well, so far. You are wise to recheck your insulin again to be sure it doesn't continue to climb. Insulin has so much more importance than simply following glucose numbers. On another note, I'm hoping you can help me with a question regarding egg white protein powder. Keto Upgrade has said the addition of sunflower lecithin in the protein powder prevents bread from rising. Have you found the same? And if yes, what do you use instead? Hopefully an alternative is affordable, since they can get pretty pricey. Thanks very much for any help you can provide in this area. And good luck with your insulin testing. Hope it all turns out well.🥰
Your story is very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I didn't hear you mention anything about your outdoor sun exposure habits and water intake. Would love to hear more about these patterns to understand better. I've heard many folks mention benefits to take carbs earlier in the day.
I've found that if I eat some carbs ... at a special occasion ... like rice or some sourdough bread, my blood glucose levels are significantly lower the next day. Drastically reducing my carbs never brings down my blood glucose into the normal range ... close, but not there..
When I went from keto to ~100g carb/day my fasting insulin and A1c didn’t move too much. I would he curious what your A1c is now and if you have any data from your keto days. Fructosamine is another measure that isn’t skewed by RBC life span, also. I think at the end of the day, if you feel good and your mood/energy is good, your iron and thyroid issues, etc are under control, 6.8 is not a number I would worry about. One could always do an enhanced GTT and see how your insulin goes up in response to glucose and how long it takes to come back down?
I was looking at past videos and the one thing I noticed was that your facial skin no longer has a rash/redness to it. 6.8 is not even 50% of 18.4. Great job! I eat like you but I still try to stay away from potatoes, pasta and rice. If I eat it, I am mindful of the portion size. I’ve never had my insulin level tested.
A question for you might also be - Was your increase in exercise a variable that helped dirve sugar into the muscles, etc. and demanded less of an insulin response? If this played a role, than would it be important to continue your current exercise program in oder to maintain you current insulin level?
You started eat more carbs because of L.Reuteri yogurt or what? And can you, please, be more specific about how L.Reuteri improve your life and change your diet Thanks.
This jives with the fact that you are insulin sensitive. I'd be curious to know what your insulin was prior to the start of your ketogenic diet. Insulin is also a very volatile hormone and can vary quite a bit from day to day. C-peptide is a nice companion lab along with fasting insulin for a more complete picture.
Very very interesting. I have been eating a lot like you were ...a lot of neat and some veggies. But i have to take essential amino acids while on keto/carnivore or my muscles start dwindling and I get hair loss. I've been thinking I need to add some carbs in. In other words, I think keto/carnivore is lacking. I think you are really on to something.
I'd be really curious to know if you're having cravings now? I'm one of those who do keto to help stop the food noise and am afraid that more carbs would bring that back.
My problem with eating carbs, anytime I try to see if I can, especially anything sweet, i end up in the weeds and gaining. All I want is sweet. I have no control. Then I go back to strict carnivore.
Thank you , this is interesting and helpful ! I often wonder where stress ties in when One gets blood sugar levels tested . Those are fasting tests at a Dr . Curious your thoughts on this , maybe if you’ve already addressed this where I’d find that in your videos .
Sorry but the standards for insulin us BELOW 6. Anything g above 6 is getting out of range. All the licensed physicians in the community will tell you this. ❤
I was going to suggest the Ben Bikman numbers but seems you included them. My thoughts.......If you were metabolically unhealthy enough to do low carb for a length of time then seem to get your numbers back to a more normal condition, why on earth would you go back to eating that many carbs daily? Carbs are carbs whether unhealthy carbs or not. Occasional carb intake? Sure why not but again 100 - 200 daily? I just see no reason to eat that many carbs daily. I am struggling myself. All my markers suggest I have very little insulin resistance however my A1C is like 6.4. I finally went to an Endo to check other markers. So far no anti-bodies. But the Endo I went to is a normal Endo and not low carb smart.
Good N=1, citizen scientist :-), I hope it continues to go well with you. You always looked pretty healthy to me but who am I ..... GREAT videos keep them coming. signed Grateful
Always very interesting and informative to hear from you and I am glad to hear you are doing so well. The next hurdle will be to monitor estrogen and testosterone with menopause when you get to that point in your life. With decrease in estrogen FSH increases and FSH causes insulin resistance in menopausal women. FSH and estrogen stimulate SHBG that binds and inactivates both free estrogen and free testosterone making them inactive, so the solution is hormone therapy and to monitor all parameters of free estradiol(E2), free testosterone, FSH and SHBG. A big concern is the myth that estrogen causes breast cancer by mutating a breast gene but it is now recognized that estradiol treatment up-regulates the estrogen receptor gene for the ERa receptor and that gene is located on the same chromosome and adjacent to a breast gene that gets amplified at the same time. If that breast gene was already a mutated cancer gene then it would be a problem but if that gene was normal the amplification would not be a problem.
I was keto before it was a fad to go around and brag about being no carb and high fat. After 4 years I developed low testosterone, my sleep sucked, I looked like I lived in a concentration camp. My competitive running suffered AND my glucose was inching up as I was processing glucose from my liver. I went back to 250 grams of healthy carbs per day ad increased my protein and lowered my fats to only 20% of calories. After 2 weeks all my issues reversed. My ruining is good again. I sleep great and my muscle mass is much bigger. Going low carbs will cause insulin resistance because you’ll process glucose from your liver. My fasting glucose is now at 83 which is optimal. Keto is a cult
I’m not sure where you are getting your numbers from but anything over 5.6 is too high. 6.8 is in full diabetic range. Now you aren’t considered a diabetic until your a1c is over 5.6 in two consecutive tests. I in no way want to be rude here. But I’m a recovering type 2 diabetic and have researched this to death. You are officially considered a pre diabetic right now. But as someone that ignored that until it was too late, you should lower those carbs now. It sucks but it’s worse if you wait.
Element has MALTODEXTRIN which is sugar.. 1 pkt of that kept me from ketosis .. I have switched to saltT...which does not have that sugar.
LMNT about 1/2 gram of maltodextrin. Insignificant for most people, even on keto.
How is the SaltT flavor in comparison to LMNT?

Great job! Everyone do what works for you. I as a menopausal woman had to do the same. It was wreaking havoc on my hormone health to be too low carb
How do you think L. Reuteri has affected your food sensitives, blood sugar and Insulin levels - ?
What about your iron issues? Are they completely resolved? I'd be interested in that too.

When low carb I got my fasting insulin down to 9. Added slowly and when up to about 100 carbs a day it went up to 12. So, I'm back to keto.
I've found that if I eat some carbs ... at a special occasion ... like rice or some sourdough bread, my blood glucose levels are significantly lower the next day. Drastically reducing my carbs never brings down my blood glucose into the normal range ... close, but not there..
Seems to me the only important question is whether your changes have helped with whatever issues you felt were remaining.

Your fasting insulin is super! Remember the glycation and damage from too much fructose.
Take a look at peptides like NAD+. and Mot-C
True carnivore is that at least 70% of your diet is animal. This 100% is a modern interpretation.

I’m curious whether weight loss has continued with consuming higher carbs. (And maybe weight loss isn’t your goal)
I have low iron.... i heard oatmeal is helping people with iron...
Red meat
The anti nutrients in oatmeal can block absorption of key micronutrients. Also organic is important as it is sprayed so much.
I take an organ meat supplement for low iron issues. (Primal queen)
Oatmeal leaches iron with its anti nutrients
Oatmeal causes my ankles to swell. No sugar or fruit added. I stick to red meat and organ meat from grass fed beef.
Peanut butter tears me up too.

What's your source? I can't find any study that suggests that an insulin level of 6.8 is unhealthy.
Below 5
You’re thinking of A1C, not insulin. Standards for fasting insulin are 5-20 microunits per milliliter (uIU/mL)
There are many different opinions on what a good insulin value is, even among keto proponent docs.
@@RendiRae2-5 is optimal fasting insulin so below 5 is ideal

A carb is not a carb. The carbs with high fructose can damage the body 8X more than glucose.

I thought you had tracked your insulin with a CGM for a time period?
Whoops. Should have listened to the whole thing
CGM tracks Blood Glucose not Insulin.

I think you're thinking of an A1C test. I am talking about results from a fasting insulin test. They are two completely different tests
