So I just watched both of your fondant methods again today. I have to make a fondant cake tomorrow, I’m leaning towards the panel method. I’ll be using buttercream. I know you said to make sure it’s frozen if using buttercream but would you do to make sure it sticks to the buttercream since I’m sure steaming it would ruin/melt the buttercream.
I didn't know how much. I started off with more than I needed and cut out the rest. Rolled out to 1/8th of an inch. I didn't fix it. I peeled it off and did it again

Great 🤩, I think draping method wastes more fondant in cut offs. Panelling gives better results with a little bit of measuring.😎

If you don't want to use a steamer, you could brush the cake with water using a foam brush
