  • "Marvellous… Playing from memory, Aurora created an organic sense of community, dynamism and inspiration.” The New York Times
Revisit an exhilarating performance from the 2015 BBC Proms. Aurora performs Beethoven’s irresistible ode to nature, the Pastoral Symphony, entirely from memory - the direct, communicative performance style which has since become a hallmark of Aurora’s Proms appearances and has inspired other experiments in memorised performance across the globe.
Beethoven - Symphony No. 6 in F major, ‘Pastoral’ (from memory)
    Nicholas Collon - conductor
Filmed live at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 2 August 2015.

This was great. I always feel this symphony is best played at quite a high pace. This was the symphony that got me into The Master. I’ve been a disciple ever since (over 40 years ago). If only Ludwig knew how loved he would go onto become…..❤

The fact that they have no sheet music won my heart. One of the most underrated recordings.

I so much love to see all the Mahler Symphonies with this orchestra!!!! By memory!!!! And also Bruckner. All of them. By memory.

That would be quite a feat, especially in Mahler.

Most underrated symphony! This one symphony puts you in contact with nature and the almighty! All you need to shut down external noise, close the eyes and let the music take over! You are in the pasture and in rapture!

It's not underrated in the classical world. It's pretty popular

Finally watched this, having been prompted a day or two ago. As per previous performances, it was fabulous though I missed the interactivity of the Eroica. I know this was recorded earlier so I'm glad you've gradually been allowed to come into your own (as it were). Also loved the Jessie and Amy pieces after - I did not join in the dancing however!

Awesome. Should have seen pastoral but it was cancelled due to covid, but hope to see them again. My ambition is to see them perform all Beethoven symphonies although they would have to have a choir for the ninth.!. I also love the explanations. Btw, you NEVER clap between movements.

Beautiful. That's the expected standard for all now, don't chicken out famous 'professional' orchestras, Aurora has now set the standard, and this is it! However, my request would be, if you allow me to say, that you get rid of all the unnecessary 'interpretational' rubato, which could possibly be nice for you as performers and for a certain audience, but many more people and new audiences will enjoy a nice stable pulse to really and effortlessly get into the music. Rhythm and pulse are not negotiable, they are powerful basic driving forces of music, don't mess with them please, if you can, and your audience will exponentially grow. Use a metronome if needed. You have it all, now just play strictly on time, except when you ABSOLUTELY need not to. I am your fan anyway, whatever you do!
