    I dig the looks of that blade. Not too sure if you took it into the tall grass just to show. Every time you came close to the wall or the rock I was tensioning. Definitely a wild beast in brush and saplings/smaller trees.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I too was nervous while trimming near the rocks, lol. The 3 tipped blade is probably best for tall grass. I'll test it out sometime and make a video comparison.

    I have had the idea that with a clearing saw blade, one is supposed to use a bicycle style handle on your machine. I think it provides better control.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend going with the bicycle handle for running a brush blade. I have the ECHO brush blade kit, so they give you a harness clip to keep it from flying back at you. They also include a barrier bar that mounts next to the lower hand grip. It seems like a safe alternative and gives me more freedom for some small hills.

    I have done ton of brush cutting over 30 odd years on my farms. This setup using the typical center placed handle on a hand held trimmer looks awkward and a little risky not to mention slow. If you have a lot of brush cutting I would recommend looking at an Echo 410u. Those bicycle handles give you tons more control especially if you swing the left handle so that it rests on your hip. Next, give consideration to taking off the blade guard if you get one. Lot faster, less frustrating and, in my opinion, safer. It also gives me much better control when I back cut on saplings and small trees.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds dangerous to take the guard off. I don't recommend it but I see your point about the back cut on saplings.

    • @andrewkey6858
      @andrewkey6858 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I agree cow horn handle bar gives far better control, thus safety.

    • @dnsmithnc
      @dnsmithnc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarkThomasBuilder It does sound that like it would be dangerous. I do recommend that new users use the blade guard. With that out of the way, there is an ongoing debate on Lawnsite and other similar websites on this issue. With my years of experience using the Echo SRM 400-U (not the 410-U as stated above which is the newer model) I fall squarely on the side of no blade guard. Again, besides being much more effective, I stand by the opinion that it's just safer. The reason why is the frustration and movement necessitated by working around the guard. The most I ever was hurt brush cutting is losing my footing and falling. Again, much more likely if I am working around a blade guard. Being cut by the blade is a danger that I don't even remotely see. Material thrown up by the blade in my face is nothing I experience except occasionally a few wood chips that do no harm at all. What I have experienced (and I don't know that this wouldn't have happened even with the blade guard in place) is that rarely the blade will pick up a chunk of wood I have cut previously and throw it back and hit my chin. This has happened maybe 8 or 10 times with hundreds of hours of use. The most that happened was a maybe a small bruise? One caveat is that I use a brush cutter with bicycle handles. Consequently, I can't say positively that I would shed the blade guard with your setup.

      The slower the blade the more likely it is to kick back, it’s a good thing to keep a good blade speed, plus 2-strokes like high rpm’s, they burn cleaner as long as it’s not overheating.

  • @litchar
    @litchar ปีที่แล้ว

    What's great about a brush or table saw blade in grass is that you only need a couple hundred rpm (you can also hold it wide open if you want to waste gas and look a little silly) The blade will easily lay down a nice swath like a scythe and if the blade hits something it is not going to throw it very far or dull every tooth on the blade 3000 times before you can move it away. For anyone who might actually consider sharpening the blade, 20 teeth is better than 80 or is that too obvious?

  • @litchar
    @litchar ปีที่แล้ว

    How many people that think that using a blade on a long skinny pole, 6 feet away from your face, attached to a harness at your hip without a "blade guard" will start up their chain saw with their hand less that a foot away from the chain, most of their body in line with the kick back, no harness, no "blade guard" and not have a problem with how dangerous that situation is?

    I happened across this video by mistake, gotta say that looks like a very dangerous tool.
    A blade like that is dangerous enough when attached to a heavy stationary tool; seems nuts to have it hand-held and more or less exposed out at the end of a long skinny pole

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i know it looks dangerous, but the trimmer has a few safety features that I like such as a harness, kickback bar, and a blade guard. I also recommend wearing PPE, like Kevlar chaps.

    I have a bunch of Pine trees with dead lower limbs I’d like to trim off. Do you recommend me doing so with this blade or a similar blade? Would it be safe to do so? Thx

      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've done it up high like that, but I'm sure a chainsaw is much safer. This is meant for ground clearing.

    Hi Bill
    I recently bought a blade brush cutter 40T as you have shown in the video can you please tell me what type of brush cutter will able to fit the blade safely? Would value your advice

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend the ECHO SRM-3020T. You may need to get brush blade adapter kit, found on Amazon, which has the different size pieces like the thrust washer, etc.

    Have you tried the 50 tooth one they make? Curious what works best for brush, blackberry vines and 2 inch branches?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried the 50 tooth one yet. I'd say this 40 tooth would work equally well on blackberry vines.

  • @cwolf8841
    @cwolf8841 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Blades come in a wide variety of features. Would a 100 tooth blade cut better than a 40 tooth blade?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 100 tooth would just mean a finer cut and would actually be slower. Kinda like a circular saw blade for demo work is less teeth. The balance is somewhere in the middle that cuts fast, but smooth.

    As you were trimming near the block wall I didn't hear you mention it, but hitting a block like that with the blade would almost certainly result in several carbide tips being broken off the blade and becoming projectiles.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for raising the concern. I don't recommend getting any closer than 3-4 inches to the block with this.

    I have both an eight tooth carbide brush blade and a Razor Max blade with the chainsaw teeth on the edge of the blade for my Ryobi 52cc Easy Start Brush Cutter.
    Both are great but I find the Razormax is better for saplings and gorse because it vibrates less compared to the carbide blade.

      It's not dangerous, in Japan this is mostly what they use. In fact they believe the nylon line to be more dangerous as it can flick things back into your face, the blade doesn't tend to do that.

    I use them carbide tip 10" blades 4yrs ago & they are awesome. I still have a used 1 from 4yrs ago. I bet it still cut. I did several yards with 1 blade until you hit 1 of the 1950 wire fence. The new chainlink fence it cuts thru like butter

    I can tell this is an awesome blade. There is a 52 tooth 8 inch, 68 tooth 9 inch, & 82 tooth 10 inch carbide blade that are called the red Razor or hybrid renegade blades. The 10 inch blades cut bigger trees than the 8 & 9 inch, & they cut almost everything, including metal galvanized pipe as shown by the project farm guy. These blades will work on any straight shaft weed eater. I use one on an ego 56 Volt multi tool. Just thought everyone needed to know these small details.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this blade does a great job. Most battery powered tools use a 8" brush blade.

    I have a question, what will happen if you hit a rock with this? Will the blade break?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would damage the teeth pretty bad, depending on the size of the rock.
