The Ansonia was certainly a beautiful hotel/ apartments which they had changed to . It is huge , and originally a farm on the roof lol !! The style of Ansonia was so different , I think it looked so pretty . What a place to live , it must be great to be able to . I always enjoy the well known people that lived there , always some gangsters from the past too . Again I enjoyed listening and looking at another grand apartment building in NYC !!
Thank God it's still there. We all know how NYC loves to destroy their great buildings ex. Pennsylvania Station, Singer building, first Madison Square Garden etc. I hope a hole developers never get to destroy it and build ugly condo towers!!!
I didn't expect the interior to be as uniquely interesting as the beautiful exterior. What I would do to visit one of the restored apartments! Especially the ones with several round & oval rooms. It's so frustrating & sad that we can't even see any past & present floor plans of some of these suites - or even a virtual tour of one of them. 😒
WOW!!! Through your videos I'm starting to understand why people might enjoy living in NYC. What an interesting and beautiful place this is. I wonder what condition the pools etc. are in, and if they're in use for the tenants,, that would be so awesome! The rooftop farm was a nice touch. Being that I'm a rural sort, it's sure got me wondering about the logistics involved there. Well, thank you, Scott!
The pools are no longer there, but they were a big deal once upon a time. No one had really seen anything like that before. The same with the Turkish Baths. All very unusual stuff. :)
The Ansonia was also in the movie THE SUNSHINE BOYS as the home of Willie Clark, played by Walter Matthau.
In person, this building is far more massive than it appears in the pictures in this video.

@@StrangeHistoryX Aw, pity that.
If you are wealthy, NYC can be a great place for you. Unfortunately, a VERY tiny studio can go for $3,000 a month these days.
At 4:19 you refer to the building as THE INSOMNIA !
That's what happens when I record at 3 in the morning. :)
Yes it's strange
This is the setting of the Only Murders in the Building series?
Inspired for sure, as the name refers to it. But it was filmed at The Belnord, at 86th Street and Broadway.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your support! I really appreciate it!
