These two unforgettable and unforgotten artists achieved not only incredible, but richly deserved fame, but also unusual longevity-she 93 years, he 91! May they rest in eternal peace! Thank you for this posting!
How come Lisa Della Casa can sing in whatever language that she's not "belle"?? Together with the "beau" (here, at least) Nicolai Gedda, they are legendary!
Love Gedda in Faust the first recording I heard was with De Los Angeles ( gorgeous )and Christoff Wonderful recording that my Father bought I have it now 😊
I’m surprised that Della Casa sang Marguerite. Wasn’t she a lyric rather than a coloratura soprano? Oh well, she could sing the phone book, and I’d listen to her.
Marguerite is not a coloratura role except for the silly jewel song that the vain creatrix of the role demanded. The rest of her music needs a full lyric, : the entrabce, the ballad, the love duet, and especially the church scene and (here) final scene
I remember Ilva Ligabue, when she first sang Elvira at Glyndebourne in 1958 (?). She later sang Elvira and the Countess at Covent Garden, and then in Trieste in 1973/4.
Nicolai Gedda is, in my opinion one of the best Fausts ever. Lisa Della Casa is wonderful too. Thank you....

C est un plaisir de voir cette version
Typical of televised opera scenes of the period that he abandoned, condemned heroine is gorgeously gowned in prison awaiting execution!
Magnifico Dúo.
Lisa Della Casa! As Elisabeth Taylor, or Ligabue Ilva!!! BRAVISSIMO!!!!
