After winning the Scudetto last season, Inter Milan have parted with both their manager, Antonio Conte, and their top goalscorer, Romelu Lukaku.
Yet with Simone Inzaghi in charge, they have opened the 2021/22 season with two wins on the bounce, scoring seven goals in the process.
Alex Stewart explains what Inzaghi is doing with this Inter side tactically, and how it differs from Antonio Conte’s style.

Inter would likely be fine, as long as they have a strong dominant CF who's excellent in doing hold-up play and a manager who can set up a positional 3-4-2-1 system with high confidence
Dzeko can be that when he wants but he has bouts of being lazy at the latter stages of the season.

Still, the video is on point and the tactics you explained are those Conte and Inzaghi use the most.
Maybe, something we can add to this video is the way Conte and Inzaghi use Bastoni: a second pivot, or a libero, in the build up for the first manager, and a wingback for the second one

I watch serie A regularly, and I would say that after the lost against Lazio Inzaghi changed quite a lot his approach, now his team is playing building from the bottom with Brozovic who drops down in the middle of the defence between two central defender, while the 3rd one goes up to the midfielder line. Sometime Chalanoglu drops down as well supporting Brozovic. The more the opponent starts making pressure to stop the low passing thread, the more Inter brings down more hig skilled player, Chalanuglu, then also Perisic and sometimes even Dzeko. The goal is to keep the ball possession with the high skilled players and slowly bring the team up. Then the Chalanoglu's and Barella's skill to stay between the lines and the speed of Dumfries plays a significant role. As a conclusion Inzaghi doesn't play any vertical football anymore. It was avery clever change, and it is paying off a lot.

What's even better is that with the signing of Correa they'll be even more unpredictable in attack. If they field Correa and Lautaro (who are both very direct and aggressive and already have a great chemistry since they both know each other from the NT) they can play a more high pressing and counter attacking style
Correa was an awesome signing for them. He'll step up when Inter miss Dzeko and he knows and understands Simone's way of playing

I honestly thought Inter would collapse without Conte and Lukaku. Their first 2 games, they looked incredible (and even more multi-dimensional than Conte's Inter). As a Milan fan, I'd put them on top 2, along with Juventus for this season. ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

I don't really see Juve as a contender this season. They're still in a rebuilding phase and have to replace CR7 who scored by far the most goals for them last season. I don't expect Kean, Morata, Chiesa or Dybala to score 20+ goals this season. They also don't have a standout midfielder even though Locatelli is a great signing for the future. Lazio and Roma look dangerous though and don't forget about Atalanta

also they signed Juaquin Correia from Lazio and he can replace Lautaro or Dzeko and have impact of the bench.

I always thought Diego Simone would coach Inter Milan one day and Jose Mourinho going to Athletico Madrid.
Simeone to Inter is obvious. He played there at the height of his careern, he's already said he wants to manage there.
If he wins la liga again with Atletico he should join inter and Atleti should sign a more attacking manager as they now have the players to facilitate a more exciting style of football

Inter did well to hire a coach who plays in almost a similar way with Antonio Conte, that was a good move isntead of shifting to a coach that plays a different way.

And they brought in Hakan Calhanoglu who was the second best creator in Europe behind Bruno Fernandes at Utd. I love Hakan but I'm a Utd fan, I loved how the AC Milan coach brought out the best in him by playing him as a no 10 and not as a winger like the previous managers. Calhanoglu is the Fabian Ruiz of Simone at Inter

I think they did well to replace the players they lost Dzeko, Dumfries and Calhanalgou replacing Lukaku, Hakimi and Eriksen isn’t that bad. Plus added Correa will give them something in attack. I see their best team having Martinez and Correra up top with a 3 of Barella, Brozovic and Calhanalgou with Perisic and Dumfries at wing back

I think the big challenge will be next year. I find that many new managers take on legacy momentum but it fades after about a year before we see the real manager.

Inzaghi is definitely a step up from Conte. Inzaghi's positional play system is very fluid coupled with dynamic space occupation which helps them create central spaces or open up spaces in defence.
