Just wanted to say I started watching these videos like... maybe a week ago, I'm hooked. Feel like I might have binged half the channel already. Great stuff guys.
@@LuminalSpoon Thanks. Yeah these guys are excellent, I've seen a few other people comment very similar stories, I used to watch wrestling in my 20s, have VAGUELY followed some stuff after that, and these guys do a fantastic job of making fun of the things that deserve to be made fun of while also praising the stuff that was actually good about the era.
I thought of Wrestleme the other day, I was watching Prime Time wrestling and Lord Al was commentating on a Dusty Wolfe match and goes "Of course Dusty Wolfe, he doesn't have a good body, he's pretty much 20 pounds overweight, and you have to say he's often very clumsy", Bobby Heenan went "so basically you are saying he stinks" and Lord Al said "Yes! I am I suppose!" - the cheek of the man.....
his gimmick had become very dated by that point. on january 11, 1992. nirvana's "nevermind" was the #1 album in the billboard 200 album charts in the u.s. knocking michael jackson's "dangerous" off the top spot. that is the day that hair/glam metal officially died. that music style that van hammer had represented was already stale when he debuted and by 1992. it was the embodiment of everything that is uncool. in the u.k., it peaked at #7 in the album charts in 1991 as nirvana had already gained a massive following there.
@@thevoid99 As someone who was 18-19 at the time, Guns N' Roses picked the worst possible time to release a double album. Also, I got tired of hair metal in '88.
If you squint when Kevin Nash and Richard Morton are walking to the ring, it kinda looks like David Byrne and Rod Stewart are hanging out. As a fan of 80s music, that’s you know. Kinda cool at least
On the road I used to live on, some young man, full of the joys of spring, asked me for a cigarette. I said I had none. To which he replied "I have a shottie, you know." Without thinking what I was supposed to say, I went "well smoke that then" followed by an awkward exchange about what that was supposed to mean. Charles Bronson made it look so easy 😔
Van Hammer looked really good in this time frame and was a solid hand. He really should have gone places, also I can't look at him without thinking about Randy the Ram from The Wrestler 😂
I love that at the 5 minute mark in an 11 minute video, they stopped talking about wrestling completely and never returned. And it was funny as hell! 😂
Not enough Zenk! Does anyone remember "shootin'" Tom Zenk of the late 90's going on every possible platform at the time for shoot interviews and just throwing some shots at everyone including Stephanie McMahon? I remember the wrestling websites of the time going nuts for him.
Barry Windham is one of my all time favourite wrestlers, everything he did in the ring was just superb throughout the entirety of his career. To me is greatly underrated.
this was a great match. the team of windham and rhodes was AWESOME. they were just perfect. big 6'6+, country strong, smooth wrestlers who could do just about everything
I used to walk through this neighborhood to work everyday. One day some people confronted me cuz someoje was breaking into cars and stealing change. I had this cool this i was gonna say, butbi just got off a 14 hour shiftz im lretty sure all i said was, "biiiiiijjjjIiiiiiiiiiiiIjjjjjtch: and fell on my face
Y'know if the fossils who booked wcw at the time gave zenk a chance to grow into his character he could've really gone places. Didn't have Gino Hernandez' personality, but a similar look. Maybe try him in a role like that - sometimes a heel turn/gimmick change could've ignited a spark in the z-man.
2:00 they’re also right around the same size, Barry was always respected for being a very high quality in ring performer, putting him with Dustin was just about the best thing they could have done for Dustin. 2:08 wow they are like exactly the same size.
I loved the old school WCW mid-card! Where else on American TV would you see japanese wrestlers fight mexican luchadores, canadian technical wrestlers take on english catch wrestlers, where traditional wrestlers took on hardcore wrestlers... and the NWO was ready to gangswarm anyone at a moment's notice? It was nuts! I loved it!
11:00 Rhodes and Austin feuded over every WCW title- the TV title, the US title. the World Tag title. The eventual plan was that once Sting and Lex (or as it became. Sting and Vader for reasons I expect you'll go into in a few videos time.) started to get old and past it and knacky, Stunning Steve and the Natural would takeover and for years have a back and forth WCW World title feud running into the Noughties. Not surprisingly, in 1995 Hogan found ways to get them both fired. So instead of them feuding for the WCW World title, Stone Cold and Goldust feuded for the WWF World title.
Windham was as good a wrestler as there was back then. I heard the only reason he didn't go into the top spot was that he really didn't care too. Nash may have been a big star, but he was a crappy wrestler.

Holy crap you nailed it there! Lmao as soon as i read your comment i knew EXACTLY what you were saying. 10/10 Would recommend to grandma.
That "it's bedtime" sorry was fucking hilarious
Kevin Nash coming out as the muscle for a blonde heel wrestler that used to be in a rock n roll themed tag team? WCW was ahead of the curve
Until you look at their hairstyles lol

you talk about austin’s trunks, meanwhile zbyszko’s has the flag of bahrain as his trunks
😂 it does look like Bahrain I suppose its a reference to his kayfabe Polish heritage
Absolutely dying at the Steve Lamacq impression, it is spot on
The "It's bedtime!" Story had me laughing so hard. I'm using it when I work Indy shows.
Austin's trucks look like the pattern on any uk bus seat.
I get a lot of pleasure from these at a time where I’m under a lot of pressure. Thank you.
I've got to try yelling "Ittt'ssss BEDTIME!!" while awkwardly walking into a pub.
WCW really buried Van Hammer by giving him a Gibson style Flying V with a Fender style headstock

GnR wasn't hair metal technically.hair metal was still good in 88.as for as nirvana goes they sucked always did.
I can't take Austin seriously in those trunks, he just looks like he's wrestling in his boxer shorts

The Widow Maker, Goldust, The Living Legend and Stone Cold all in the same ring. Legends, all of them.

The irony of Marc ripping on people with a sincere love of something that he finds ridiculous.

I'm still trying to figure out the Ant & Deck thing from the Underfaker video.

The movie the wrestler is what popped in my mind when seeing Van Hammer😂 how I miss these days of wrestling.
To be fair to Kevin Nash's tweet, Spock was a science officer he has to have had at least some kind of Vulcan equivalent of a doctorate or degree.
probably listen to Redman(american rapper) who calls himself "Funk Doctor Spock"
This had more peep show than I was expecting
Bedtime would make a great name for your finishing move. I can see the posters in the arena: “IT’S BEDTIME!”
"We have Go To Sleep at home, honey"
GTS at home:
The smashing of Barry Windhams arm took place at the Savannah Civic Centers parking lot.
This is the most work I’ve ever seen Zybskos do.
Great insight concerning the Rhodes-Windham tag team!
I'm sure I remember Lamo having the freebirds on his show in the mid 90s

Yes, he had a website with rants too
This channel deserves more views and subs
RIP tom zenk.
A very underated talent...

The kevin Nash picture looks like it could work well as a new gimmick for him.
That lad is probably number 7 real estate agent in Leeds and he is going to suplex you off the top rope mark.

"IT'S BEDTIME" merch?
Surely them slamming Windham's arm in the car door must have done some damage???

Dustin and Rhodes were a great tag team. Steamboat and Shane were great too
Don't be like Kevin Nash and use a tanning bed. Be like Trump and have a makeup lady spray it on. Healthier AND manlier!
Marcus bagwell had this curse but he thinkss he's on the level of the rock or stone cold.
Zenk turned down Pat Pattersons offer to join the Cream Team so he never got that big push in New York.
