Spain named the archipelago as "Las Islas Filipinas" (The Islands of King Philip II of Spain). The local languages didn't often use the letter F and replaced it with the P. So Filipinas became Pilipinas. The Americans had renamed Las Islas Filipinas as "The Philippine Islands" or "P.I." during the American Commonwealth period.

Filipinos are challenged when playing basketball and volleyball unless international rules will allow a height cap or limit to allow short players to have a fighting chance against teams that have players taller than 6'3". This would be similar to having weight categories in boxing, wrestling, and weightlifting but do you think the tall countries will ever allow it to happen?

While Kai Sotto had a several D1 NCAA colleges wanting him to play, he eventually went the pro route. Last year he joined the GLeague ignite team together with the other NBA prospects like Jalen Green (half Filipino btw) Jonathan Kuminga and more. As you may know 2 mentioned are both in the NBA. While Kai was not yet elligible for this years draft has currently signed to the Adelaide 36ers and try his luck there. The same pathway to the NBA done by Lamelo Ball.

I don't think he was even eligible for NCAA. He now got an offer in Australia and currently (possibly) started training with his new team. He's now taking the Lamelo Ball route. He's not yet playing but the Australian pro league and his team's socmed followers exceedingly blew up when this was announced, and his jersey is now the best-selling jersey. Any NBA team would want him.

Kai announced his HS graduation and a fw months later, i heard he was not yet eligible for NBA drafting 2021. Pilipinas is how the natives call Philippines in their native language. Pilipinas is to Philippines as España is to Spain. The American colonizers who took over from Spain had a hard time pronouncing it so they basically just mispronounced it as Philippines and over time it was officially recognized as the official pronunciation internationally.

He was not able to play in the G-League because of the pandemic, thus, did not enter the 2021 draft as he will not be drafted anyway as he had low stock.
As the result of the recent events, he signed with an NBL team (in Australia) instead. Probably develop there and still have a shot because he is still young.

Not trying to be a jerk but I don't think he's billed for the NBA. I looked at his stats, he didn't go undrafted because he's foreign or anything like that. It just doesn't look like he has the skill set for the NBA.

Pilipinas is the local/native name fir our country, Philippines is the international equivalent or in short Pilipinas=Tagalog/Filipino , Philippines=English. Same with Japan natives refer to their country as Nippon and their language as Nihonggo.

I think for a better sports in the Philippines should American Football there is no doubt that Filipinos are very aggressive to each other when it comes to Basketball you've seen it right which is why us are more fit to American Football.

What it's kinda inaccurate to say we were just a group of islands when American took over when, america just took over one city and declared the whole country as conquered. We already have an existing government and people paying taxes to the said government when the Americans declared us as their colony. Causing the Philippine - American war which the America refuses to recognize, because they did so many atrocious war crimes such as the order of massacering a Whole island called Balanggiga, check it in Netflix there's a movie about it.

I understand the NBA not being very interested in having games in the Philippines due to it not being a new market to invest or pour money into as it basically markets itself, but I'd still love for it to happen.
