Man your new release in Atmos is FANTASTIC 😮😮😮😮😮. It showed me that my setup is working just FINE. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE MIXERS WHO DO DOLBY ATMOS!!!!!!!. Please keep sharing, I truly appreciate, and understand the time and effort you are expending in our behalf. Escape in the three variations is WONDERFUL 😊😊😊😊
I have the Denon AVRX3800H and am running 5.3.6 those 6 height speakers really make a difference to me I tried 7.3.4 but I like the 6 height speakers better!!
I believe it! I can't wait to get those installed in the studio. I have the speakers here, just a matter of getting my contractor friend over to do the instal. Don't forget to set a reminder to watch me mix Atmos Live this Thursday at 5 pm PT - technodad.biz/AtmosMix
Thanks for your comment about enjoying six heights. I have a denon 4500 with a 7.2.4 system. I saw denon and marantz's new flagship AVRs can do 9.2.6. My listening area doesn't have room for more floor speakers, but was still considering the upgrade for the six heights.
Great video. Nice setup and great information. Apple MacBook Pro & Apple AirPods Pro & Logic Pro X Dolby ATMOS mixing lowest entry point w/o having to even purchase an audio interface. Headphones & an actual Dolby ATMOS studio properly acoustically treated, calibrated for now, is the corect way to mix. Again, your content is appreciated.
That's where I started as well, 5.1.2, and then a year later I added the rear height speakers. I may create that video soon as even I am interested in seeing what Atmos is doing when downmixing from 9.1.6 to 5.1.2. Thank you for watching!
Yes! I have one in-house and I have shot the unboxing portion of the video. Still need to do more with the Sony AVR before I make the rest of the video.
I noticed a APC UPS, what do you have that connected to? Long ago i had wanted to hook my AVR and TV up to one to prevent issues from unexpected power outages, but i had read they're not good for audio equipment (explanation went over my head as i don't comprehend electricity well). Got occupied with another project and forgot about it until now.
Hi! It’s for my Network Attached Storage Device. Not connected to audio equipment. I was thinking of adding one for our internet router but then realized that would be out of power outside our home.
@@TechnoDad Thanks for reply, the fact i never see UPS' on high end audio equipment makes me think there's truth in it not being good to hook them up to amps/AVRs. Not looking to watch/listen when power is out, but my home does a lot of flickering on and off when there are issues (which isn't often)- wanted to save my gear from abruptly turning off and back on for when it happens. I think my home internet is independent of outside electricity and a UPS on my router would keep it going- BUT everyone's setups are different.
Thank you for watching! MP4 is easy. Use the Dolby Atmos Renderer and bounce out an MP4. The tricky part is getting a Lossless version out in MKV or M2TS format for people to play in their home theater. THAT was expensive. Don't forget to reserve your seat and watch me mix Atmos Live this Thursday at 5 pm PT - technodad.biz/AtmosMix
Curious to know how you were able to do two inputs of mixing and AVR-preout from receiver to 16 channel external amp at the same time? Is it with Y splitter on external-amp? 3:10
Yup! simple solution. Just have to make sure only one of the items are on. So either the audio interface is on, or the AVR is on. Never both at the same time.
@@TechnoDad Hi from Norway! When you say "only one at the same time" do you mean volume is down on one or you power off the device? One more: what is your atmos monitor controller in this setup?
This is great! How do you export the files to be able to play back in lossless Dolby True HD like you guys did on the spatial audio disc. I’m also a mixing engineer and the only other guy I now who mixes in Atmos says the final file comes out as an ADM WAV which is submitted for distribution. It also spits out an MP4 I believe. How did you guys get it to be able to play back uncompressed? Also, I’m trying understand your split setup better. So line out of the interface and then going where? Are you splitting the rca signal so one can go to the Niles and the other to the Pioneer? I just can’t seem to make sense of it how you have both the pioneer and your interface going into the Niles. Thanks!
Ahhhh yes...the ADM BWF files. I'll tell you this. It's a combination of 4 or 5 different software packages and about two dozen other steps in between to create the Lossless files found in our SACT. That took months of figuring out, so I'm not going to say too much about it. I will say this...it was NOT easy and there is nothing on the internet about it. I just figured it out. As for the audio interface and AVR going into the amplifier in my setup, that's super simple. Y-splitter. One side has a single RCA male and the other has two RCA female. All you have to do is make sure only one device is on at a time. So either the audio interface is on or the AVR is on, never both on at the same time. Hope that makes sense!
@@TechnoDad I figured it was something really complicated for the conversion. Glad you figured it out! You’re then only person I know who has done it. It really seems like it should be a standard thing as it’s hard to check your mix on a consumer system unless you are doing what you did with the AVR. That makes sense now. So the Niles basically has the y cable on each input so it’s either getting fed from the interface or the AVR. That makes sense. Just curious do you find a lot of major differences between the way the mix sounds when you’re listening in logic and when you play the mix decoded through the AVR? In theory it should be the same because it’s same speakers/amps but I wonder how much is different with the decoding that happens. Thanks!!!
@@TechnoDad Was the programs you used to convert the Dolby Media Encoder? I’m guessing then you had to convert the MP4 to MTS or MKV files because I don’t think True HD works on MP4 right?
@@NickMatzkeMusic Yes! Dolby Media Encoder is one of them. However, the TrueHD output is a file type that won't be played by anthing. MP4 is only Lossy Dolby Digital +
Hey, how to get start with surround sound? like i have jbl lsr monitors 2 6inches and 2 5inches can get one more for center and a Sub from jbl. want to start mixing in basic surround sound like 5.1 so how to get info on that which audio interface is good to start and how to setup for 5.1/ dolby setup for basic mixing as i m totally new into surround sound
You would need an audio interface that has as many analog outputs as you would need. But they usually go as a pair or 8 or 16. If you wanted to start with 5.1, you may need to get an interface that has 8 analog outputs.
Im using the AVR to test and see what everyone else will experience. So I’ll bounce out a red file and use a blu ray or media player which is then going into the AVR via HDMI.
TechnoDad who is this MrTechnoDad first of all I think he stole your Name and Secondly I missed your live stream Thursday and I am looking for it and thirdsees I love your Remixes in Dolby Atmos especially Panic Room so I would like access to more songs Remixed by you
I find atmos rather a pointless format. It’s only any good in cinema, no good for music unless you use headphones and even then it’s still bad. It’s stupidly expensive for a setup and to get a room made for it. All for something that the general public can’t really listen too properly. Beside the fact that most people either have a stereo of some sort or a smart speaker which is probably mono.
