- Screen Realm's (screenrealm.com/) Adam Fleet talks to visionary Oscar & Emmy Award-winning stop-motion animator and special effects supervisor Phil Tippett (RoboCop, Starship Troopers, Jurassic Park, Star Wars: A New Hope) about his stop-motion animated epic, #MadGod.
Around 30 years in the making, Mad God combines live-action and stop-motion, miniature sets and other innovative techniques to bring Tippett's wholly unique and grotesquely beautiful vision to life.
Mad God will arrive exclusively to @shudder on June 16.

Plot twist: He made this movie sober because he's actually god with the white beard and wanted to show humanity what he's capable of but instead he changed his mind this time did it in an artistic vision thru stop motion.
Mad God is just a unique and amazingly beautiful film. It is truly a work of art.
Just saw this on Shudder and am kicking myself that I did not see it on the big screen. Fabulous!

Phil thank you! There has never been something more important in art than MAD GOD. In a time of endless CGI waste, useless celebrity bs, etc. people who crave these absurd and beautiful creations prayed and you answered.
So much potential and endless imagination in this project left me feeling propelled!

I didn't know about this masterpiece of a film until I saw the Shudder trailer and got to check it out. The film did not disappoint. I absolutely LOVE it! I aspire to come up with my own stopmotion film but I gotta do some learning on the go.

The Devil Dogs of Kilo Company, a film I did stop motion for.
As for violence toys, Kenner's Alien 1979 comes to mind.

Stop motion is no longer the feature effect of movies. We can be sad about that or we can create a whole new universe for stop motion to inhabit. This movie was lovely pure horror

i really liked this movie i rented it on youtube for $4! the atmosphere is just insane i don’t even know what kind of art to classify his style as to find more like it lmao. super good movie it grabs you without speaking! there is like 2 lines of dialogue. it kept me really interested never knowing what’s going to happen!
We are truly lucky to have Mad God. Especially as horror fans. This is Andrei Tarkovsky levels of beautiful and dense. Cronenberg levels of horrific and surreal. It may be one of the greatest examples of animation in history and I am not exaggerating. I could fill books with praise for this, both the visuals and what it has to say. This film will be remembered.
I've known this day was coming for Stop Motion! So happy for Phil and the team! I hope to see the same niche achievement occur for the other types of model work.

@@TheSurrealist. dude spent 13 years making a movie on his own so...maybe he hasn't socialized in a while? Interesting how certain parts of our brain grow stronger or recede over time. You've got to constantly tend the garden, so to speak, to prevent weeds from growing and the right parts healthy bearing fruit.
If hes anything like me, he maybe just doesnt like seeing himself on Zoom. Its a jarring experience for me, cuz I dont do it often.

Lack there of of story I tried so hard to understand anything but to no avail, other than being unsure about huge concepts and society as a theme. Good art, story sucked.
The story isn’t meant to be understood. It’s meant to be interpreted, like 2001. Ofc that’s not for everyone tho
@@robinkendall4454 there's no story, things happen in the film and you try to make sense of them. Just like in real life everything happens and you're the one in charge of putting things in order according to your own experience. To me there many themes, war being one, but things like humanity's attempt at escaping reality through entertainment whether it's violent or sexual in nature (Apartment window scene and also the audience present at the assassin "surgery"). It could be about love and loss as with the mother who loses her child to the monster in the terrarium (which can also be tied to war). Modern life and corporate culture where the lower class is literally made out of the higher ups shit. It could be about organ trafficking literally or more subtly about a ruling class that profits from peoples lives and work until only husks are left. I myself would have loved a focused story with a cool looking character but I see what the artist was trying to create and in the I'm happy to have experienced a passion project that was never meant to be

If this movie weren't so nihilistic it would be amazing. Unfortunately there is nothing redemptive about it. Seeks to disgust and nothing else. Visually striking however.
Every single commenter underneath me has forgotten the Brothers Quay. They're stuff is fucking uncanny. This is just a chip off the old block.
There was no story to pick up on and alot of stuff was just wierd made me skip ahead a few times like the doctor tortue scene. If there was story this could have been a Hit.
Or you couldn’t just accept it was a mostly visual experience. You went in expecting a plot. It had no discernible plot, and it was amazing.

I saw you leave a comment on another video about this movie. I don’t understand why you’re pursuing searches to watch interviews with the creator and film critic reviews; considering how much you don’t like the movie…. Could it actually be that you DID enjoy the movie but it’s filth has made you experience some cognitive dissonance and guilt?
