I very seldom write comments but one is warranted here. If I could give this two thumbs up I would!!! That first day was insane.17+ miles with scrambling and on top of it having to set your camera and doubling up on some of the walking..... Then getting to the peak! I was freaking out just watching the video. Gorgeous scenery, great commentary. I've been watching your videos for awhile now; this is easily the best I've seen!

You were blessed with good weather in the Winds this time. Many years ago on the way to Titcomb Basin I was in the most violent lightening/ thunder storm that lasted for hours at night and the next day a fast arriving front hailed on me. Each time going to Cirque of the Towers I had either occasional rain or snow or once the Cirque was in fog. The granite reminds me of the Sierra Nevada like Whitney or the back country of Yosemite. I had the Cirque all to myself for a little over an hour the first time there so also have fond memories of the wilderness available there. You have to be prepared for the unexpected in the Winds. Thanks for perhaps your finest video.

I stood on that same rock on the summit of Gannet Peak in August of '73 when I had just turned 20. There was more snow on the mountain but otherwise your film brings it all back. We approached it from the West as well, but further south, crossing a glacier with rope and crampons then followed a couloeur up to the Ridgeline from the south. Weather came in from the west so we had to scramble down early. Thank you for doing such a great film!
Absolutely honestly mind blowing-all it it. How you can look at something like this MASSIVE mtn with nothing but millions of rocks, and say-“I think im going to climb that to the peak”, is beyond impressive. The valley you entered & hiked along the Green River (3:20-3:50) holds it's own with views of Yosemite Valley; stunning! I wanted my fly-fishing equipment! But I think I speak for most of us going along with you; we felt your excitement @ the summit! I can only imagine Alaska having more expansive views ~ Thank you for this one; a great accomplishment!
I'm not ashamed to say that I belong to the 99% of your audience that would not want to attempt to climb this mountain - Sure did enjoy your adventure though! I climbed Mt. Timpanogos 40 years ago as an 18 y/o college student, and that was not easy even back then. Keep 'em coming Tristan!

1121gsm Cut my teeth on “The Rock” back in the 50’s, and several times after. Then moved West and played on the taller ones. What it lacks in altitude it makes up in fierceness.
@@buckhorntx I know what you mean by "fierceness." I've learned that altitude (for me anyway) is not as important as terrain and grade. I've done Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Everest Base Camp, and Inca Trail (all of which are much higher than Mt. Washington) but they didn't turn my quads into mush. Mt. Gannett is not as tall as many Western peaks but, as Tristan said, it is the most difficult.
I loved going along with you on your climb!!! My muscles were tensed and I had a shortness of breath I think because of the high altitude....wait a minute... I never left my chair!!! lol ( little bit of humour from a 62 year old woman who use to do a bit of climbing) You do amazing and you should be soooo proud of yourself!!! I wanted to do the victory yell with you on the peak!!! Loved it!!!!!
I can't like this enough! Spectacular! And had me squirming when you were up at the summit. I would be perfectly happy just to do the first part of the hike. That river valley was breathtaking and seriously rivals Yosemite. Well done!
AWSOMEvideo! I miss being able to get into such country. Sneaking quietly into my mid seventies with bad knees and hips all I can do is relive my old memories and experience new adventures vicariously through yours. One word of caution....having experienced a few close calls with grizzlies in Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana I can tell you that being unarmed with neither bear spray nor firearm and facing a momma grizzly at spitting distance makes one feel VERY naked! At least carry bear spray and keep it where you can get it in a HURRY! Your life may well depend on it.
My hands were sweating when you summited, I'm definitely part of the 99.9 percent of people who have no business trying something like that. Amazing for sure, but I'll wait for you at camp. Thanks for this.
Well done!.The Tourist Creek approach to Gannett will always get you thinking about how much you want to climb this peak. BTW, people solo Gannett from all sides all the time - including the immensely popular Gooseneck Glacier route. The east side Dinwoody and Gannett glaciers do have crevasses to be aware of but that does not mean you can't move thru them safely by yourself. You just need to know what you're doing. I'm surprised so many people attempt Gannett from the west side. No route has more boulder hopping, talus and loose chossy scree than this route you see here. I suspect the answer is that it's definitely the only snow free way to climb Gannett. The other side of the coin is that the North Face / North Ridge is one of the most aesthetic routes in the Winds and a proud way to get to the top of Gannett. Enjoyed the low key story telling here.
That was a beast of a hike! The Wind River Range is more beautiful than I knew. I appreciate the way you film these epic journeys and catch different points of view. I felt like I was standing on top and taking it all in. I loved seeing the glaciers on the opposite side of the peak. Just completely wonderful all the way around!!
Enjoyed your adventure. My husband and I spent our summer at the campground above Warren Bridge on the Green River. We fished below Green River Lakes. We got to fish with cows close by. The momma almost lost her calf in the river. We love to watch you fish. All you need is a recipe and invite us to dinner. Lol.

I've stopped making best mountain arguments for the most part - something different sneaks up on me every time I visit the mighty mountains. But damn, The Winds are stunning and logging now a few longer hikes at this point - will always feel magic and unexpected excitment when I venture into them. In the Lower 48, it varies for me: The Winds, The High Sierras, San Juans (they win the color and surrealism metrics), North Cascades, The Elks, Tetons, and GNP ranges. But then there are the underrated ranges: The Bitterroots, Colorado's Sangre De Cristos, The Sawtooths, Pioneers, The Olympics, and please, folks, The Beartooths-Absaroka's (criminally underrated, yet so unique). The Beaten Path will open anyone's eyes with constant eye candy, and its just one of a dozen + hikes in this spectacular, inverted, granite range that will blow your minds. The Beartooths-Absarokas also uniquely shift in their composition - the latter being more volcanic breccia - not fun to hike on. I think The Beartooths--Absarokas are simply so overlooked due to the Beartooth Highway traffic and Yellowstone-Teton visits. I also agree with folks who inevitably gravitate towards the beauty of desert peaks - a different level of visual splendor - more colors and those unreal shapes, but far less hiked. Of the ranges mentioned, yes, High Sierras, San Juans = bigger ranges - the latter being a small part of the Greater Rockies. The Sierras are obviously a bigger range than any of the Rockies' subranges cited.
Wow, what an incredible place. I was surprised to see what looked like a lack of wind when you summited. Seems that every time I hit the summit, I’m dealing with frigid, strong winds. Nature really cooperated on this trek. Great work!
Impressive! While watching this I kept saying out loud to myself "pack up that camera and use both hands on the rock scrambles!" But you made it! When I teach my grandkids simple climbing skills, I always tell them to make sure they have 3 points of contact on the rock at all times.
Thank you for making this video. It has helped me understand why the love of my life died on Pyramid Peak in Colorado back in 1983 after falling to his death on the way back down after summiting. I never really understood the passion. After seeing the beauty in your video, I now understand so much more of the calling of the mountains that took him from this life. Im so glad to know this now at age 64! Your passion has helped me greatly! Thank you!

Many thanks, Tristan, for taking me along on this great trek. I climbed Gannett from Elkhart Park and Bonney Pass back in the summer of 1972. Summit Magazine asked me to do a writeup on it (Nov-Dec 1972 issue) since not many were doing this peak back in those days. I wish we had done your route, lots more challenging. I'm 85 yo now, so this kind of adventure is behind me, although I still manage a peak or two near my home here in the Adirondacks. I will be checking out some of your other videos to satisfy my still active wanderlust. Happy trails!

Yup, I will never be up there, I don't think I could hike above 10,000 feet, and I have a pretty strong fear of heights, which I might be able to get over, but enjoyed your endeavor greatly. I grew up in the areas you hike abd video. I remember passing by these mountains looking out the back window of the car thinking *I could climb that. I'm going to climb that some day*. As usual life gets in the way so I spend Saturday and Sunday mornings with your videos. When you get ready to bag Mt Rodgers in Virginia let me. Know! I did manage to get that one under my belt!

It is Dec 21, 2021 today. First found your channel & have already 'consumed' a number of features. Very nice video content & videography. I grew up a mid-westerner & Great Laker. I am retired and now live in New Mexico with the Sacramento Mtns. 300 yards out my back door. I explore the local canyons frequently & enjoy them thoroughly. I am not a 'climber' but do many lesser adventures into the mtns. and National Forest. There are many areas here with those sharp edge loose rocks & boulders. Based on your presentations I now have begun a 'bucket list' of treks to make & enjoy. Thank you for the great work & information for all of us.

Thanks for the good time you give us to see all the places you are going to. I spent about almost 2 years in total traveling around US in my life. Bought 2 times a VW Bus when I was young. In 1983 we drove 40000 miles in North America and also made a lot of hikes and so on. So looking to your videos gives me a real good time and sometimes brings back memories. Rewatching this video and I must say Tristan either you’re a billy goat or one lucky dude to have tackled that mountainous climb solo. It was jaw dropping, white knuckle gripping, ever so intense watching you accomplish such rugged terrain. I kept telling you to put down the camera so you’d have both hands to grab onto with. And the pit of my stomach kept dropping every time you showed the height levels you were at. I agree the views are spectacular but I can’t imagine anyone attempting such daredevil climbs as you do. You are truly blessed. 👏
Yep you’re right I could never climb up that mountain ,drove up to pikes Peak and at that elevation I did not do well, so thank you for doing this and taking me along the scenery is absolutely gorgeous

1121gsm Cut my teeth on “The Rock” back in the 50’s, and several times after. Then moved West and played on the taller ones. What it lacks in altitude it makes up in fierceness.
@@buckhorntx I know what you mean by "fierceness." I've learned that altitude (for me anyway) is not as important as terrain and grade. I've done Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Everest Base Camp, and Inca Trail (all of which are much higher than Mt. Washington) but they didn't turn my quads into mush. Mt. Gannett is not as tall as many Western peaks but, as Tristan said, it is the most difficult.
I loved going along with you on your climb!!! My muscles were tensed and I had a shortness of breath I think because of the high altitude....wait a minute... I never left my chair!!! lol ( little bit of humour from a 62 year old woman who use to do a bit of climbing)

I can't like this enough! Spectacular! And had me squirming when you were up at the summit. I would be perfectly happy just to do the first part of the hike. That river valley was breathtaking and seriously rivals Yosemite. Well done!

I miss being able to get into such country. Sneaking quietly into my mid seventies with bad knees and hips all I can do is relive my old memories and experience new adventures vicariously through yours.
One word of caution....having experienced a few close calls with grizzlies in Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana I can tell you that being unarmed with neither bear spray nor firearm and facing a momma grizzly at spitting distance makes one feel VERY naked!
At least carry bear spray and keep it where you can get it in a HURRY!

Talus - reaches the angle of repose. Trash rock is hard to climb. Such raw beauty. You are so blessed to experience this.. 🤩
Well done!.The Tourist Creek approach to Gannett will always get you thinking about how much you want to climb this peak. BTW, people solo Gannett from all sides all the time - including the immensely popular Gooseneck Glacier route. The east side Dinwoody and Gannett glaciers do have crevasses to be aware of but that does not mean you can't move thru them safely by yourself. You just need to know what you're doing. I'm surprised so many people attempt Gannett from the west side. No route has more boulder hopping, talus and loose chossy scree than this route you see here. I suspect the answer is that it's definitely the only snow free way to climb Gannett. The other side of the coin is that the North Face / North Ridge is one of the most aesthetic routes in the Winds and a proud way to get to the top of Gannett. Enjoyed the low key story telling here.
That was a beast of a hike! The Wind River Range is more beautiful than I knew. I appreciate the way you film these epic journeys and catch different points of view. I felt like I was standing on top and taking it all in. I loved seeing the glaciers on the opposite side of the peak. Just completely wonderful all the way around!!

Enjoyed your adventure. My husband and I spent our summer at the campground above Warren Bridge on the Green River. We fished below Green River Lakes. We got to fish with cows close by. The momma almost lost her calf in the river. We love to watch you fish. All you need is a recipe and invite us to dinner. Lol.

I've stopped making best mountain arguments for the most part - something different sneaks up on me every time I visit the mighty mountains.
But damn, The Winds are stunning and logging now a few longer hikes at this point - will always feel magic and unexpected excitment when I venture into them.
In the Lower 48, it varies for me: The Winds, The High Sierras, San Juans (they win the color and surrealism metrics), North Cascades, The Elks, Tetons, and GNP ranges. But then there are the underrated ranges: The Bitterroots, Colorado's Sangre De Cristos, The Sawtooths, Pioneers, The Olympics, and please, folks, The Beartooths-Absaroka's (criminally underrated, yet so unique). The Beaten Path will open anyone's eyes with constant eye candy, and its just one of a dozen + hikes in this spectacular, inverted, granite range that will blow your minds. The Beartooths-Absarokas also uniquely shift in their composition - the latter being more volcanic breccia - not fun to hike on. I think The Beartooths--Absarokas are simply so overlooked due to the Beartooth Highway traffic and Yellowstone-Teton visits.
I also agree with folks who inevitably gravitate towards the beauty of desert peaks - a different level of visual splendor - more colors and those unreal shapes, but far less hiked.
Of the ranges mentioned, yes, High Sierras, San Juans = bigger ranges - the latter being a small part of the Greater Rockies. The Sierras are obviously a bigger range than any of the Rockies' subranges cited.
Wow, what an incredible place. I was surprised to see what looked like a lack of wind when you summited. Seems that every time I hit the summit, I’m dealing with frigid, strong winds. Nature really cooperated on this trek. Great work!
Impressive! While watching this I kept saying out loud to myself "pack up that camera and use both hands on the rock scrambles!" But you made it! When I teach my grandkids simple climbing skills, I always tell them to make sure they have 3 points of contact on the rock at all times.

Thank you for making this video. It has helped me understand why the love of my life died on Pyramid Peak in Colorado back in 1983 after falling to his death on the way back down after summiting. I never really understood the passion. After seeing the beauty in your video, I now understand so much more of the calling of the mountains that took him from this life. Many thanks, Tristan, for taking me along on this great trek. I climbed Gannett from Elkhart Park and Bonney Pass back in the summer of 1972. Summit Magazine asked me to do a writeup on it (Nov-Dec 1972 issue) since not many were doing this peak back in those days. I wish we had done your route, lots more challenging. I'm 85 yo now, so this kind of adventure is behind me, although I still manage a peak or two near my home here in the Adirondacks. I will be checking out some of your other videos to satisfy my still active wanderlust. Happy trails!

I think this is my favorite video so far from your channel (I am going back from June 2022). Beautiful views, the rock, that waterfall above your camp, the horizon as you neared the peak. Yup, I will never be up there, I don't think I could hike above 10,000 feet, and I have a pretty strong fear of heights, which I might be able to get over, but enjoyed your endeavor greatly. I grew up in the areas you hike abd video. I remember passing by these mountains looking out the back window of the car thinking *I could climb that. I'm going to climb that some day*. As usual life gets in the way so I spend Saturday and Sunday mornings with your videos. When you get ready to bag Mt Rodgers in Virginia let me. Know! I did manage to get that one under my belt!

It is Dec 21, 2021 today. First found your channel & have already 'consumed' a number of features. Very nice video content & videography. I grew up a mid-westerner & Great Laker. I am retired and now live in New Mexico with the Sacramento Mtns. 300 yards out my back door. I explore the local canyons frequently & enjoy them thoroughly. I am not a 'climber' but do many lesser adventures into the mtns. and National Forest. There are many areas here with those sharp edge loose rocks & boulders. Based on your presentations I now have begun a 'bucket list' of treks to make & enjoy. Thank you for the great work & information for all of us.

I spent about almost 2 years in total traveling around US in my life. Bought 2 times a VW Bus when I was young.
In 1983 we drove 40000 miles in North America and also made a lot of hikes and so on.

Rewatching this video and I must say Tristan either you’re a billy goat or one lucky dude to have tackled that mountainous climb solo. It was jaw dropping, white knuckle gripping, ever so intense watching you accomplish such rugged terrain. I kept telling you to put down the camera so you’d have both hands to grab onto with. And the pit of my stomach kept dropping every time you showed the height levels you were at. I agree the views are spectacular but I can’t imagine anyone attempting such daredevil climbs as you do. You are truly blessed. 👏
