  • Boiled peanuts have become an easy and ono treat that locals love to snack on. You’ll see these snacks served as pupus or at aunty’s house in a bowl ready to be eaten as you enjoy the company of family. Boiled peanuts are usually sold in Chinatown in clear plastic bags. Hey! I'm from Oahu but I'm in the military now stationed overseas and bouncing around the world every few years and I watch your channel regularly so I can make some of the foods I grew up with since I'm not able to make it back to the islands very often. Thank you for your videos! I appreciate that they are simple, short and to the point. My favorite is your shoyu chicken recipe.

    Good recipe! I’ve been cooking boiled peanuts for many years and learned that it’s not necessary to presoak them before cooking. The tasty seasoned water will naturally soak into the peanuts as they are cooling down after the heat is turned off, approximated 45 minutes. Also, a much faster way to cook them is with an instant pot or pressure cooker on high for about 15 minutes, depending how soft you like them, followed by a natural release for about 1 hour.

      She said her peanuts were raw. Green peanuts are preferable and cook a lot faster.
      Green is how they come from the ground. They have a higher moisture content and can spoil more quickly.
      Raw has been partially dehydrated so they store longer without spoiling, but take longer to boil.
      Maybe pre-soaking the raw peanuts cuts down on their cook time?

    Quite a different recipe than what I'm used to with southern style boiled peanuts. I may have to give it a try.
    This is the time of year for it. Green peanuts are in season here. Thanks for the video.

    Oh the memories of watching the old stock car races at the old stadium in Moiliili munching on boiled peanuts and getting splinters in the behind!

      I lived next to the old stadium and I loved they had something going on because we would buy a bag of boiled peanuts! I still remember the taste.

    Wow, what memories. My Uncle's friend who have both passed used to make this especially for me as a treat. I just had flashbacks of back in the day. Thanks for the reminder of the good times!

    My wife and I live on the East Coast and travel to The Outer Banks, North Carolina, yearly, for Summer Fun. We pass many places through the area on our way to the Outer Banks that have Boiled Peanuts for sale on side road markets. This is Peanut Country. Watching this video makes me want to try this Hawaiian Recipe. Thank you for sharing.

    Oh wow, I didn't know peanuts could be boiled with extra ingredients haha. My dad only boils them in salted water. I'll have to convince him to give this a try, we have so much star anise not being used 😭😋

    Do you eat the shells also since it's soft?

    • @jesswarren89
      @jesswarren89 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No you just bite into the shell and suck the juice out before opening it and eating the peanuts inside. Literally the only bad thing about them is the leftover shells 😔 I always just chuck em outside because they're biodegradable.

      Cook them long enough and you can eat the whole shell. They are my favorites. ❤️
