Great reaction again - as always.🤘🦊This is one of the most important BABYMETAL performances (maybe even the most important). They still talk about Sonisphere 2014 in interviews today as being the moment they believed their music could break barriers and that they would be accepted by the metal community.
This was their first "world" tour. They had played 2 small venues in Paris and in Cologne/Koln where Yui and Moa celebrated their respective 15th birthdays (Su was 16) and now they were in the UK for the very first time at their first metal festival, their first major event outside of Japan and the biggest crowd (over 50k) they had played to.
Originally they had been booked to play a small side stage or a tent with maybe a couple of thousand people, but the video for 'Gimme Chocolate' had gone viral and they were attracting attention. They had a show booked for London a couple of days later that had sold out so fast it was moved to a bigger venue - and that sold out fast as well. With just a couple of months notice they were told they would be playing on the main stage as the second act at Saturday around midday.
On social media some gatekeepers who had seen the first 30 seconds of the 'Gimme Chocolate' video were not happy - they didn't like that this "gimmick, joke, novelty, money-grabbing manufactured group" had been invited to Sonisphere at all. To hear they would be on the main stage had them foaming at the mouth, punching the walls in their basements, crying into their pillows and posting threats to throw bottles of p155 and boo them off stage ... fortunately that never happened.
From back stage BABYMETAL couldn't see the crowd, they were worried what they would do if there was nobody at all there to see them. They walked on stage to a sea of puzzled faces - over 50k UK metalheads. Su saw the faces and thought to herself "This will be fun. let's knock it out of the park."
They had about 25 minutes, just 5 songs, to try to impress this crowd.
Su had some of them trying to sing along with her in Japanese in the second song - 'Gimme Chocolate'. 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' was the last song of the set ... did you see the smile on Su's face as she waved after her final "We are" (13.57 in your video)? Also the calls from the crowd of "We want more!" and "One more song!"
BABYMETAL had the biggest mosh pits of the weekend (as you said, that may be down to Yui and Moa "directing the mosh" as they charged across the stage), their merch outsold every other band playing that weekend (among them were Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Avenged 7fold and so many big names.
IDZ was the second song they had ever played live - that was in 2011. It was not released until quite a bit later and not before another less "traditional" metal song or two had been released. You saw the lyrics and how deep they are ... they didn't start to get deep after starting with only fun songs for girls, they always had that mix.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 The phrase "Dame Zettai (= No absolutely)" is originated from police campaign against illegal drugs which had started in 1960s. So this song implies that "Ijime (= bullying)" is considered as harmful and addictive as illegal drugs. We have to continue our efforts at home and in school (and in any society or organization or group in the world) to eliminate it.
In this video, I love to see the excited crowd gradually turn into enthusiastic audience. When three girls started to speak some words in the interlude, loud cheers quickly subsided and the audience even tried to listen to what they were saying although the people could not understand our language. I am emotionally moved whenever I see that scene. People in the crowd became happy, so did Kami band, and I am sure that the three girls fell asleep very happily that night after the biggest event in their life in foreign county.
This song was revived in January 2020 and BABYMETAL have performed many times since then with Su-Metal's matured voice and encouraging moves by Moa and Momoko. It was probably their message to the current world.

    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 🚫
They were bumped up to a main stage once their music video for 'Gimme Chocolate!!' started to go viral outside of Japan.
That was a couple of months before this Sonisphere appearance.
My favorite part of 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' is still the part where Su threatens to kick Yui and Moa in the head if they don't stop bullying each other.
And this anti-bullying song gets some of the biggest mosh pits. : )
I can't imagine the strength of nerve it took for a 16 year old Su, and just turned 15 year olds Yui and Moa to take that stage.
And to leave the crowd wanting more. I'd say they made some new fans that day.
They followed this up with a headlining concert at The Forum in London two days later.
This was a classic Kami Band line-up with Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.

EVERY single element about Babymetal is perfect and magical. I'm 53 and in my entire life, I've never heard or seen anything more amazing than them. They are one of the best things to ever come into my life. Their music and performances have brought me so much joy, happiness and entertainment. My absolute favorite thing about the whole package is Hideki. I wish he'd play on the albums. All the Kami band members (East and West) are so amazing and talented, but Hideki is an absolute god.

Suzuka, even in recent interviews, when asked, consistently names this concert as the most memorable one and she knew both the stakes and how it impacted their confidence. I sometimes watch the whole set just to see how the fans gradually got converted, something Su points out as well.
I do revel watching Mikio's pure joy during the mid-song break... had to be the highlight of his career, I'd like to think. RIP Little Stargazer.

She has also spoken at the time in some Japanese interviews how she could see how the excitement radiates out into the crowd, starting with the fans at the front of the stage and the excitement spreads row by row further and further to the back.

This , at Sonisphere , was the performance where BM " came of age " . This was their first big festival appearance outside Japan and they were originally booked to perform on a smaller stage but at the last moment the organisers transferred them on to the Main Stage ! Asaf was talking about " process " and although I realise he meant on a longer term this performance encapsulates their story - a sceptical audience of thousands , who I think were unsure at the start were very quickly won over ( as you can see in this video ) and by the end of the set they were given a rapturous ovation . Worth if you can watching the whole set and you'll see what I mean .
( They were followed on stage that day by a small band called Iron Maiden !!! )

Thanks for your reaction!! The Japanese don't mess around... 100% every time. Yes, they are confident, but they are also amazingly precise. You can take clips from the same song over the years and they are the same; not in a bad way, but that's how precise they are. Love these fearless little rock and roll sweethearts.

There's a story about Su, when she was nine and in a group with two other girls called Karen Girl's, which sang songs for a children's anime. They played at an anime festival in front of 25,000. The other two girls were besides themselves with nerves at the size of the crowd and the staff had to calm them down. When it came time to play, they had to look for Su. She got bored and took a nap. She was born for this, and apparently from a young age said she was going to be an international rock star.

    Lyrics Overview:-
IJIME, DAME, ZETTAI (Bullying, No, Absolutely)
    [Rururu...]
    [Ah.]
Dreaming, I couldn't have even it.
Between the light and the darkness, I stayed alone.
Those who got hurt were not only I myself,
but also those who kept on watching me. It was you.
    Confidence, [Have it!]
    I couldn't have. [Don't be beaten!]
I kept on hiding [I dislike to be found!]
    until yesterday. [Yesterday is gone!]
But good-bye to yesterdays' myself. [Bye-bye!]
    Bullying. [No!] Bullying. [No!]
It's disgraceful. [No! No! No! No!]
Sometimes you get hurt, sometimes you hurt someone,
and we all get badly hurt.
    Fox, [Fly!] Fox, [Fly!]
I'm sure you can fly. [Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly!]
Let your pain and sadness all go outside!
It's OK because I'll protect you.
I didn't show my tears, and in the night I was about to cry,
in a room deep inside my heart, I stayed alone.
Those who hurt me were not only someone else,
but also those who pretended not to notice. It was my friend.
    Nothing [Nothing!]
    could I say. [Say nothing!?]
I was about to give up [No easy throwing out!]
    until yesterday. [Yesterday is gone!]
But good-bye to yesterdays' myself. [Bye-bye!]
    Bullying. [No!] Bullying. [No!]
It's disgraceful. [No! No! No! No!]
Sometimes you get hurt, sometimes you hurt someone,
and we all get badly hurt.
    Fox, [Fly!] Fox, [Fly!]
I'm sure you can fly. [Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly!]
Let your pain and sadness all go outside!
It's OK because I'll protect you.
    Pain...
    Aching...
    All the while...
    Alone...
    Your heart...
    Pretending not to notice...
    Anymore...
    I'll never get away.
    Bullying, No, Absolutely.
Full of dearest-ness, it's pressuring but also encouraging.
    Anymore, anymore your...
I don't want to see anymore your tearful face.
    Bullying. [No!] Bullying. [No!]
It's disgraceful. [No! No! No! No!]
Sometimes you get hurt, sometimes you hurt someone,
and we all get badly hurt.
    Fox, [Fly!] Fox, [Fly!]
    I'm sure you can fly.
Let your pain and sadness all go outside!
It's OK because I'll protect you.
Bullying, No. [No! No! No! No!]
    Bullying, No, forever.
Bullying, No. [No! No! No! No!]
    Bullying, No, never.

This was their first show outside of Japan. They were scheduled to perform on a side stage but one of their videos went viral so they got noved to the main stage. All the girls said they were very nervous not knowing how a British Metal audience would react. There were a lot of people that said why are there little girls on the stage. But once they started they won over the crowd.

    Excellent reaction, thanks!
You got the lyrics meaning totally right and of course, you're are okay with the lineup this time, hehe...
Yes, they are huge professionals and they were like this since the very first moment they put a foot on stage. Obviously everything is more refined and polished today, after years of training and personal growth as persons and artists.
This performance is a very important piece in BABYMETAL's history. This was their first performance in the UK (actually their first big stage outside Japan) and that was a massive festival with 50.000+ metalheads most of which never heard about BABYMETAL before. Keep in mind that this particular type of crowd can be very disgusting if the band doesn't match their expectations. Also the organizers moved them to the main stage several weeks before due the online buzz. And they actually were worried that no one would show up. The result? Walking off the stage while the crowd was chanting "we want more!". They also sold more merch than any other band that weekend (including Iron Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax, Dream Theater, Slayer...). That is what I call an epic win.
"Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (or "IDZ") was actually their second song, according to live performances, since they premiered it live in July 2011. Although they released it way later, in January 2013, probably because it's basically a straight power metal song and they had zero intention on getting pigeonholed in one genre at the time.
They rarely perform it live today. I traveled 400 miles each way just for the possibility that they did. It was totally worth it. 😁
    Until next time!
    🤘🦊

Great reaction to this landmark performance by BabyMetal. This was their first metal festival on their first tour outside of Asia, and this is where Suzuka became Queen Su. Two days after this performance, the girls rode through London in a red double-decker bus and stopped at Abbey Road Studios, where they signed their names on the wall and walked across the famous zebra crossing in the footsteps of The Beatles. It would have been so cool if Paul or Ringo had been there to say hello.

2:19 just so you know, Suzuka/Su-metal is from Hiroshima and this month (aug. 6) was the 79th remembrance of a certain event. So you might not want to use the words mushroom cloud.

2:52 in many ways, you are not wrong, they are leading the crowd. That's part of their 'job description' if you will.

5:48 this is their second year with their live band, but they had been performing without a real live band before for 3 years already before that. Yes, their were just kids, but this is their 4th, going on 5th year of existence as Babymetal, but for example Su-metal/Suzuka already started in the entertainment industry at age 3 (!), so she already almost had a decade of experience before Babymetal !

6:59 it's not that they are unfazed, this was the biggest audience they had performed at ever at the time and it's the first time performing in this country, it's not their audience, it's a festival crowd. Actually their passion for performance seems to fire them up even more with a bigger crowd !

15:32 I think Babymetal also was created to be a gateway band into metal, but ironically, they are also a gateway band into Japanese music in general, from pop to metal, to jazz, etc.
But you are not wrong, the concept was created around her and her talent. Which is different from many of the pop groups that exist which had concept first, this is a huge part of their success, to give the girls a platform form their talents, passion and hard work.
