- I noticed a problem with my first Truly Me 122 doll's wig. I wanted to share what I noticed about the wig so that you can avoid this same problem with your dolls. Hopefully, this tip can help someone!
I am an adult doll collector. Growing up and having a family has not changed my love for dolls! My videos are meant for other adults that enjoy dolls too.

Yep, this would bother me too. Thanks for sharing! For $115, you should be able to expect a certain level of quality control. Nice that you had the ability to do a comparison video before you had to ship the first one back.
Thank you for seeing the problem with this. It can be very annoying for collectors!
It’s always so interesting to see the same folks side by side. It’s amazing to me that more people can’t see the differences. Their wigs are totally different and their faces as well.
I feel the same way. I love seeing how things can be the same and be so different at the same time too!
It almost looks like the faces are different too. The blue dress has a bit rounder face but maybe its just the video.
No, the one in the blue's face is definitely a bit rounder. She is perfect.
I cannot believe how different those two #122 dolls look…
I see it too!
It looks like the 122 in the middle might have had her wig placed lopsided or crooked on her head. I don't think the actual wig is the problem, I think it's the way they put it on, because since one side is longer, and the part goes to that same side, looks like that might have been what happened, which is unfortunate, but not the worst thing that could happen.
I am glad that you could see it in the video. That was what I was trying to explain in the video. It was improperly glued down which does cause the problem.
I would give her a little trim to fix it ❤
I didn't want my doll to not be in original condition. It was much easier exchanging the doll.
Adore the beautiful kitties! And very informative about the wigs.
Thank you so much!
I went through 2 #122's. She's so pretty but the first one that I ordered came with a messed up wig. Took her to Nashville and picked out a new one after looking at them for 20 minutes. Got home and opened her and her wig on the back is all curled up and bent! Her painted on lashes aren't even on the eyelid. So I just ended up ordering Rebecca and returning 122. 😞
I am so sorry that you went through that. I have found that if it is possible to open the dolls up in the store to check for flaws. I know that it isn't always possible and very frustrating to get a doll with flaws.
Thanks for sharing! this would bother me a lot if it would happen to me. I wonder if it would be possible to notice the defect before removing the hair net? If it would not, even hand picking the doll would not guaranty to have one without a defect 😥
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. I noticed that the doll with the uneven wig was supposed to have a center part. The part went to one side. I don't remember now if it was the left or right side. When I buy dolls in the store, I always life the lids to look for the part and check if it goes straight back. I always do a feel of the wig too. I bought a doll that had a wig that was not glued down properly and had what felt like pockets of air bubbles when I touched the wig. I had to exchange my doll. I always try to remove my doll from the box while I am in the store. I know that it isn't always possible. I also know that a lot can be hidden by the dolls still attached to the box.
My 122 has very similar wig issues. It's definitely off to the left like yours, but also slightly too far forward. I've seen a lot of people brush her bangs down straight and it looks cute, but on mine they come down too far over her eyes because of the placement. I also got her from Amazon, but I won't be sending her back. It doesn't bother me that much, and it's not worth the hassle especially because she has a very pretty face and I don't want to end up with one with bad face paint or wonky eyes. But I'm not a super serious, hard-core collector.
I think it might be a common problem with the wig. Once I see something that bothers me, I can't look past it. I tried to this time. Thankfully, Amazon sent me pretty face dolls both times. I find Amazon is the easiest place for returns now. I can drop them off at my local Kohl's and then get $5 Kohl's cash for doing the return that way. I used the cash to buy a Disney nightgown for my doll!
I am super picky when it comes to my dolls. I have exchanged quite a few until I get one I like. I completely understand.
Thanks for understanding! I just picked up an online order for a Monster High doll from Target. She looked good when I picked her up, but before I got home, I noticed a big flaw in the bangs! Now I have to go back and exchange my doll. I was looking forward to opening her last night.
As my mother would say, a blind man would be glad to see it… tbh I didn’t notice the crooked part at all, you had to point it out for me. Although I would have been pretty bummed with the wonky hair, I still can’t say with conviction that I would return her for that… I’d probably just get my craft scissors out and snip it😂. However when it’s a brand new doll and you paid full price, you should be getting a doll without noticeable flaws! At least with Amazon it’s easy to return and you don’t have to wait a million years to get the replacement doll.
I have a couple of pre-owned dolls with wonky wigs as well, caused by having side parts that are too low. One I’m planning on rewigging with a really cute synthetic mohair wig. The other I’ll probably just leave her alone, I already snipped the too-long hair on the part side.
My eyes have always been good at noticing when things are uneven. My dad is the same way. I have been this way since I was a child and have been able to point out when things are crooked like this wig. I had to return her because a flaw like that would bother me so much that I would not be able to enjoy the doll. I am not a hairdresser so I would never cut the hair on a brand new American Girl. I bought her to wear the wig she has. I have other dolls that I use for wig models. I know some people have no problem with the issues that bother me. We are all different.
Yes I can see that it's on wrong. It would drive me crazy too. Beautiful dolls though! ❤
Thank you!
I always say, you deserve to be completely happy with your doll! It would bother me, too! I like how the hair slightly curves under on the second doll and the bangs. But, she almost looks like a different face mold? That's strange, hmmmm🤔! Not good quality control on AG's part!
Oh thank you! I agree with you. I love seeing how the same doll can look so different.
Your first #122 also has bad lower lashes. I think this is going to be an on-going problem for AG. The faces of your #122's are very different from one another and the hair of the second seems a shade lighter.
The dolls do look very different. I didn't see any problem with the lower lashes. What problem did you see?
