Basically, only Pyrrole's synthesis from 1,4 - Dicarbonyl compound is known as Paal-Knorr Synthesis. The syntheses of other heterocycles (Furan, Thiophene) from 1,4 - Dicarbonyl compounds don't have any name. But we still call them "Paal-Knorr" because of its resemblance with that of Pyrrole's Paal Knorr Synthesis.
If we talk about Gureschi Synthesis of Pyridine, the dicarbonyl compound is used there as well. As far as Pyrrole, Thiphene and Furan are concerned, our recommended books are only limited to a few syntheses where only one, one syntheses from dicarbonyl compounds of such heterocycles are present. So I can't help you in this matter. But as a Chemist, I must say that there maybe more than one methods of the preparation of such compounds (from 1,4-Dicarbonyl compound) will be present.

Not necessary. We can not limitize a compound for a single type of synthesis.
