    Customer asks for a breakdown for only 2 reasons -
    1. He is sure you are ignorant of business basics and believes you are guessing on price.
    2. He is sure you are ripping him off.
    Both are insulting and customers believe you are too stupid to recognize the insult.

    I paint houses for a living. I am pretty good at estimating paint costs but last thing I want is to eat two extra gallons of paint which is $100. So I always break down my labor price and say that’s fixed but estimate on paint costs. It also helps them realize that paint is expensive so they don’t think I am over charging.

    " I don't do apprenticeships, I can't afford it" "I need skilled workers that have been through an apprenticeship" WTF

      He does service work and you typically don’t need a 2nd guy in the truck for that. Apprentices are great for new commercial construction since you need a lot more guys on the job site. Once they have some level of training they can complete a lot of the work on a construction site so you don’t have to hire as many journeyman for the project. Apprenticeships are important for training the next generation but just doesn’t fit any all business models well. Think of Jered’s business almost as a promotion, a place you could end up after completing an apprenticeship.

      @@jeremyduncan6639 Yes on big commercial projects Apprentices are cheap labor for the contractor. Most unions limit how many Apprentices you can have per JM because they know the contractors would have as many apprentices as possible to save money. When there are too many apprentices they end up just being laborer's and don't learn anything.

    A contractor who refuses to break down a bid is a price gouger.... i would move to another contractor. They are a dime a dozen out there, especially in big cities. And customers, if you like a contractor that plays ball with you, continue to blay ball with them.

    Im starting a cleaning home service business using subcontractors but do you think i can do the same with plumbing ? By using subcontractors to do my plumbing business(i never done plumbing before)

    • @Squatch69

      Most states require you to be a master plumber and you would never want to subcontract plumbing work out it’s a possible to ruin a whole house

    • @jacobhorton9832
      @jacobhorton9832 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      its possible but most states require a master plumber for every shop. You can hire one but it would be a position that would require a lot of trust. A lot of people can pass a masters test that don't really know a whole lot and how could you as the owner hold them accountable if you too don't know if they are right or wrong on plumbing matters?

      Maybe find a plumber who is licensed looking to start a business let them start the company and maybe you can let them use a corner of your Shop and an one of your vans

    If you aren't willing to tell me what my money is actually paying for, then I assume you are just ripping me off. No legitimate business will refuse to do so.

      Please go ask McDonald's for a breakdown on the cost of a Big Mac, if they don't kick you out - please tell us what they charge for the onions on the Big Mac and the labor to install them on the burger. McDonald's is a legitimate business - I'm sure they will tell you. By the way, have you asked your grocery store for a breakdown on a loaf of bread, how much did the yeast cost? You're ridiculous.
