They say it's so you only pay for what you use... But the real reason is that potential customers will choose the lowest price ticket... So, each airline is incentivized to post a lower ticket price than competitors, and to hide the true cost in fees that are tallied later in the process. They purposely make it very tedious to get to that poi t in the process where all of the fees are tallied. They hope that your sunk time and effort, and the prospect of doing it all again with a different carrier, probably just to encounter similar shenanigans, will convince you to go ahead with the purchase regardless of the misleading original price. And they're right about that, often enough for them to justify doing it. Thus, the host is correct that the airlines do it because the can... and the corollary - the only real way to stop them from doing it, that won't just lead to further shenanigans, is legislation that requires ticket sellers to show the total price including taxes, fees, surcharges, upcharges and any other add-ons. You'd have to work out the details using common sense and available data, and to prevent loopholes and too much red tape, to find the right balance. To be entirely fair, the reason for extra charges like this is to compete with low cost carriers like spirit and frontier. The lowest economy fare is a low frills package where you pay for add ons, if you want the same full service options they are included for a higher price.
Insurance, healthcare facilities and pharmaceutical companies charge different people different prices as well. bc the us would rather remain a 3rd world country with no trains than be called "socialist" ...also iphone and macbook users are charged higher bc they already overpaid for their phones and laptop im not even kidding
You do have a choice, you could drive, take a bus, train, boat charter a private flight, learn to fly and buy your own Cessna for the price of a car, etc. What you mean to say is that you're not willing to not fly commercial
So that’s why when I saw a ticket on Spirit airline for $17 and I checked back then the day before the flight they were seats for only four dollars on the airplane
Im honestly over flying since the last time i flew my under seat carry on got pissed on when i was sleeping, i dont check bags because I generally travel light and it save me from having to wait in line to check a bag or to wait for the carousel (which i dislike because any rando can just snatch your bags) Od rather drive, take a greyhound, or hop on an amtrak.
Not to mention that people with disabilities or space needs often have to pay more, have equipment broken, or don’t have their differences understood, leading to greater risk of anger or being kicked off.
im sorry but if a person has a disability and these airlines or whoever have to make things accessible that the majority of people are not going to make use of, why shouldn't you have to pay more? you want this service provided, but you dont think you should have to pay for it? why?
We know this but what’s the solution? I was always taught to have some helpful ideas when bringing up a problem. It’s better than just dumping issues without any resolution.
Plus why do some planes pull toxic exhaust into the cabin whenever the plane is on the runway? Some planes do not, so this toxic air doesn't ever have to be sucked into the cabins and therefore, of course, into our lungs.
I drove a round trip of 2200 miles and it cost me less than 200 in gas 😂 smokes weed the whole time, got the stretch, snacks, I think more people need to figure why road trips are an American past time
Yeah, but the tickets are much cheaper than they used to be. To compete with these prices they pretend the ticket is cheap and then hide the price somewhere else.
This doesn’t bother me. I haven’t flown in decades. Driving is so much better. Lose time but save money and less stress. Only makes sense if you’re going further than 3 states away.
Yeah I already knew that they had an algorithm that gives the highest possible price that someone is willing to pay I found out by accident but I was booking a flight with Norse airlines from London Gatwick to san Francisco and I did it on my iPhone and my MacBook and I booked the same ticket and got completely different prices
They have down the cost of the ticket, into their individual parts. Want cheaper tickets, now you can see the individual costs of the previously total costs.
Your data from your devices shows how many time you have been looking into flying for certain dates. (Shopping around) If you go to the site using another network/wifi the prices will be different and cheaper.
Flying is a terrible experience now. We Have decided to forego flying until the experience improves, if it ever does. edit: It's the fees, &the airline policies, but also so many shitty passengers.
So what we really need is a bunch of millionaires to crowdfund a sensibly priced airline company to compete with the existing ones, that will inevitably either force them to change their market strategy, or drive them into bankruptcy, establishing total dominance over the market, allowing it to do whatever it wants, and I’m starting to think that this may not be a good idea.

And yet they will not pay the front line workers a livable wage ... boycott anyone
Boycotts dont work
bc the us would rather remain a 3rd world country with no trains than be called "socialist" ...also iphone and macbook users are charged higher bc they already overpaid for their phones and laptop im not even kidding
The fact that the fees GREATLY increase in price you pay them at airport instead of wherever you were 30 mins prior is insane
A.I. is also used to help them to know who needs a flight for emergencies and charge them more
A big thank you to all the lobbyists working hard on our behalf!!🤦
This is why I started running across the country with my Uncle Forrest. We stopped shaving too, we’re saving a ton of money.
Delete those cookies, folks. Hotels do it, too. Once you look, then price check elsewhere, the fee often rises. Then you can’t get it back down.
This is why we need a European/Japanese level train system.
You do have a choice, you could drive, take a bus, train, boat charter a private flight, learn to fly and buy your own Cessna for the price of a car, etc. What you mean to say is that you're not willing to not fly commercial
Are you recording this from the bathroom?
Different prices for different people is the very definition of discrimination
Just take any seat and only take a bag that will fit under your seat when it’s free whenever possible, saves me a lot of money on flights.
This is _another_ reason I don't fly unless I absolutely have to. Which is usually only about one trip a year.
Not to mention how much tax money we pay to bail them out.
So that’s why when I saw a ticket on Spirit airline for $17 and I checked back then the day before the flight they were seats for only four dollars on the airplane
I love airplanes, but I hate airlines.
Im honestly over flying since the last time i flew my under seat carry on got pissed on when i was sleeping, i dont check bags because I generally travel light and it save me from having to wait in line to check a bag or to wait for the carousel (which i dislike because any rando can just snatch your bags)
Od rather drive, take a greyhound, or hop on an amtrak.
If I have a lawn chair, a leaf blower, and hundreds of balloons, then the airlines can't stop me.
Thanks for the info, but why did you film this on the toilet?
These à la carte add ons keep the ticket prices low because you're not paying for what you're not using.
This is why sometimes if I can drive there I drive instead of flying
💯 correct 💯 👏 👌 🙌 👍 😎
Plus why do some planes pull toxic exhaust into the cabin whenever the plane is on the runway? Some planes do not, so this toxic air doesn't ever have to be sucked into the cabins and therefore, of course, into our lungs.
Are you making video on the crapper?
Where’s Luigi when you need him…oh right.
That's literally how the whole damn country works now with like, 2 exceptions
Flying and Airlines are a nightmare, it rarely is enjoyable. It used to be fun about 5 years ago, gone on a downhill expressway since 911 really.
I so agree! Thank you! It is maddening. I feel the same about Disney. Greed!
There’s always a choice… to avoid grayhound I’d gladly pay extra 😂
The train is three times the price and you may not get there at all
I drove a round trip of 2200 miles and it cost me less than 200 in gas 😂 smokes weed the whole time, got the stretch, snacks, I think more people need to figure why road trips are an American past time
Yeah, but the tickets are much cheaper than they used to be. To compete with these prices they pretend the ticket is cheap and then hide the price somewhere else.
This doesn’t bother me. I haven’t flown in decades. Driving is so much better. Lose time but save money and less stress. Only makes sense if you’re going further than 3 states away.
It’s called staying home or driving. You would be surprised how far you can drive in a day
Yeah I already knew that they had an algorithm that gives the highest possible price that someone is willing to pay
I found out by accident but I was booking a flight with Norse airlines from London Gatwick to san Francisco and I did it on my iPhone and my MacBook and I booked the same ticket and got completely different prices
So boycott an airline for 1 month. Either they're going to lower their rates to win back customers or go bankrupt.
Sounds like more CEOs need a visit from luigi
Free enterprise. Charge what you can or someone else will. If the customers have money. Charge what they will pay. So what's new.
Ah yes, dynamic pricing is coming for us all. Even outside of airlines
Isn't the different price thing price discrimination; which is illegal?
maybe we should show them that they aren't that different from healthcare insurance companies next investor meeting they have
They have down the cost of the ticket, into their individual parts. Want cheaper tickets, now you can see the individual costs of the previously total costs.
The people in charge better not go to a certain city...🗽
Corporate GREED. This is why we need regulations and watchdog groups. This is why we need laws and lawyers.
They made nothing on me because i don't travel.
Another reason why algorithms are dangerous
Your data from your devices shows how many time you have been looking into flying for certain dates. (Shopping around)
If you go to the site using another network/wifi the prices will be different and cheaper.
Flying is a terrible experience now. We Have decided to forego flying until the experience improves, if it ever does. edit: It's the fees, &the airline policies, but also so many shitty passengers.
Question: Why are you always making videos from the restroom?
What is your solution?
So what we really need is a bunch of millionaires to crowdfund a sensibly priced airline company to compete with the existing ones, that will inevitably either force them to change their market strategy, or drive them into bankruptcy, establishing total dominance over the market, allowing it to do whatever it wants, and I’m starting to think that this may not be a good idea.
