When you know that Ren's two big vocal icons are Nina Simone and Jeff Buckley, his vocals come into focus even more. You start to realise that those parts you thought were just random coincidences with how he sings, maybe even throwaway, are actually absolutely deliberate. I love how he plays with vocal light and shade and inserts little subtleties and nuances into his delivery, that can be missed if you're not tuned into it. I also love how he isn't afraid to play around on the edges of perfection, before reeling it back in, to make the imperfection perfect. I love it when vocalists do that. Tbh, I think Ren's voice is vastly under appreciated. He has an incredible voice! :)
