    I received mine today as I was worried about heat lamps and causing a fire. The initial cost is more but saves in the long term.

    I love the angling height suggestion! For the mess, cover the top with glad press 'n seal. Makes clean up super easy.

      It doesn't melt? It might also be a good idea just to cover the top with something that they can't climb into like a cover

    I am loving our warming plate. Our's has the plastic dome. Super happy with the purchase.

      They work so well, don't they? I don't have the dome and have to spend time cleaning off the top. I may look into one of those.

    What a great easy to understand. I'm getting my first chicks this year and will go this route. How long do they brood before I put them in a coop? Yes this was VERY helpful. You showed the heat plate very well. Much of the other brooding vids on here were too complicated. I feel much more comfortable now becoming a chick daddy 😁

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the plates they seem to feather out faster. I look for them being mostly feathered out and having those shoulder feathers. When they go outside depends on your coop and your weather. Once they start sleeping on top of the plate (3-4 weeks?), I know they’re not dependent on the heat source. My garage is around 45-55, so when the low temps are consistent with that I take them out. Although, I do still provide a low watt red bulb at night for them for a while if the temps are still on the low end at first. I have a video on moving chicks outside that might explain that better.
      If you have a warmer climate then you can remove the plate while they’re still inside once they aren’t using it as much and see how they do before taken them out.

    Hi, I don’t know you will check my comment but I need your advice.
    I bought used one, same this one (heating plate for chicks) I turn it on and check temperature under there after 3-4hours. Its 30 degree C. Isn’t it too low for them? I know it will not be hot like light bulk but…Would you mind to give me advice please?

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How are they acting? Is they’re inside that is probably fine. If they’re all scrunched underneath and crying then they’re cold. If they’re running back and forth from under it then they’re fine.

    Hey do you set your brooder on high or low? I have the Producer's Pride Brooder Heat Plate? I'm not sure of the height or temp I should keep them at.

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  ปีที่แล้ว

      Use the brooder setting on the producer’s pride brooder. I use the short level for the back and the middle level for the front. If they’re comfortable and quiet then it’s a good level. You want them to be able to easily get under and also find a comfortable height to stand under it. 😊

    I don’t know if you check your comments as this is an older video, but I need help with a question: is it ok to use these plates on plastic? I always set up a baby box in a plastic tote lined with paper sacks and covered in shavings. This heat will be right against those materials- is that ok?

    Hi your videos are so helpful! Do you still need a heat plate in summer? I am getting chicks just a few days old in Aug and I live in Louisiana... I feel I wouldn't need a heat plate til fall? What do you suggest?

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It doesn’t seem like they would. I might have one there just to see if they actually need it, just in case. But you probably wouldn’t need it if the temps are around 80-90.

    great video, with the model you are using you can buy a remote thermostat to regulate heating, do you think with your experience its necessary? cost an extra 13 dollars in Denmark. Soo, great vid, thanks for the info. greetings from Denmark! :-)

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! I'm glad the video was helpful!
      My heat plate doesn't have any kind of temperature control - there is no way to adjust anything but the height. Sometimes it does feel really hot or not hot enough, but the chicks always do fine. It is possible that it feels different to me depending on the general room temperature. So...to answer your question, in my experience it's not necessary. One of the things I like about the heat plate is NOT having to constantly monitor and adjust everything.
      Thanks again for watching! :)

  • @ellaloveskai
    @ellaloveskai 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you just plug it in and then it regulates the heat itself? Or are there settings?

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it just gets plugged in. The adjustment is done by adjusting the height.

  • @bubblez9104
    @bubblez9104 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you unplug it after it heats up? Just bought one but noticed it doesn’t have a temperature control

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No - leave it on. It only has two settings - brooder and heater. Use it on the brooder setting with chicks and raise it up as they grow. The chicks will take care of their own temperature control by going under when cold and coming out to explore when warm.

  • @hamedt89
    @hamedt89 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. Does it burn them?? I read some review that it burns the chicks as it gets too hot

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it’s too low it can cause a couple small bald spots on their back. Not sure if it’s burning or just from the contact rubbing the down off. The key is to keep raising it as they grow so they can push into it foe warmth but not be forced against it.

  • @Jenny-bc5kz
    @Jenny-bc5kz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How old will be chicks be able to fit under these heat plates? Around 3 weeks or so? What do you do from.the time they outgrow this plate and when they are fully feathered and can go outside?

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes- they usually start sitting on the top around 2-3 weeks, but it goes pretty high. They could probably still lay under it around 3-4 weeks if they wanted. They are usually fully feathered and not using the plate anymore at that point and I don’t use anything. They are a lot less dependent on heat using this over lamps.

      @Jenny-bc5kz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @ChickenHues
      @ChickenHues  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They use it full time for maybe 1.5-2 weeks. Then they use it mostly just at night for a few more weeks. The only time I use anything else is if I've moved them outside and it gets pretty chilly. Then I might use a small heat lamp just on very chilly nights.

    One thing to remember with these heat plates. The chicks need to be TOUCHING the plate. The height should be no higher than the backs of the chicks. It is NOT a HEATER. They get their warmth from TOUCHING their backs to it.

      @@ChickenHues No problem. I always get concerned about people who watch video's and things are not explained thouroughly. As in the thumbnail picture it shows how the chicks are crouched in and under. In the video you could clearly see the chicks stretching to touch the plate. That would have been a good clip to show what NOT to do. Peace and God bless and thanks for your content.

      @ChickenHues  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pamelaremme38 I just looked to see where they can be seen stretching to reach the plate? I didn't see it. I see them running in and out, but not stretching. The plate is set to be higher in the front and lower in the back. They would have no reason to stretch because they can find a plate that is low enough for them.
