    I just picked up 2 Ivy Rain Barrels today from the Hendersonville, NC city program. The quality of the barrels was better than I was expecting! I have them set up at 2 different down spouts and am hoping the forecast is correct for rain on Friday. We're in severe drought up here and there are watering restrictions in place.

    I never expected such differences for rain barrel systems from country to country.

    Ha, ha, @ 3:35, the gutter's already shortened, and then @ 3:40, it's long again! Nice job though!

    Thank you for the video. I think the point that isn’t explained here is how to get water from second barrel. It seems we need to connect another hose or reuse the same hose again. It becomes difficult when bushes are around it. 😏

      You want to install them where it's most convenient to access the rainwater. There are two ball valves in the set up you are describing so simply switch the hose to second barrel when first one is depleted. Or add a second hose. Get as creative as you wish to make accessing the rainwater as easy as possible.

      @@RainWaterSolutionsTV I was thinking the same question. This isn't a good design what you are describing. It is extra work. Instead you need to design this in such a way that the overflow valve from first is connected to the bottom of the second. This way all two will have the same level of water all the time and you only need to plug hose to one barel and it will get water from both the barrels. I was considering to buy this as this is provided at a discounted price through my city of Plano but after seeing this I may not be buying it. The system is good for 1 barrel though.

      @@zeroweb0 you can use garden hose components to make therm all drain from the bottom. We are working on a video for that now. Stay tuned.

    I worry about using recycled plastics, and storing water for growing food in old plastic. Plus, how do we make sure our old asphalt roof is clean enough for clean water? I'd rather just have lots of trees, shrubs, plants and mulch to help the rain soak down into the water table.

    • @RainWaterSolutionsTV
      @RainWaterSolutionsTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We source our plastic from known, reliable sources. It is thoroughly cleaned before production. Recycling is much better than just sending it to the landfill. The rainwater stored is for non potable use only. Asphalt shingles do hold a lot of organics and depending on the age of the roof can make the collected rainwater not suitable for irrigating edibles. Rainwater harvesting has many benefits and by holding back some of the rainwater to use later is better than just letting it run off.

    Question
    Do you recommend draining the barrel during the winter months when temperature is below freezing?

    • @RainWaterSolutionsTV
      @RainWaterSolutionsTV  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it freezes in your area for longer than 3 days at a stretch you need to winterize it. It will survive a day or so fo freezing but that's it. We do not warrant our rain barrels from freezing. Thanks!

    Are you still providing parts? I found the list on your website.
    I purchased two Ivys (50g) yesterday from a FBMP seller. They are missing parts (I contacted the seller after reviewing the parts - we did a quick check at the pickup location but she was in a hurry and I missed the fact that the overflow was a long hose - she only provided a connector hose).
    Anyway, I need two overflow hoses and the black caps (also missing) for the other sides and the zip ties. (sigh)
    Also the outsides of these green ones are pretty scratched .. would i be able to spray paint them black? i would use an outdoor paint.
    thanks for your help!
    PS perhaps the FAQ could be available as a downloaded pdf. thanks

      EJ, you can purchase components here: www.rainwatersolutions.com/products/ivycomponents
      Curious what an FBMP is? You can paint our rain barrels wit Krylon Fusion. Clean the barrel thoroughly and follow the application instructions for the paint.
      Thanks.

    What is the recommended method to prevent mosquitoes 🦟 from thriving in standing water?

    • @RainWaterSolutionsTV
      @RainWaterSolutionsTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gerrit, our raion barrel is screened as well as it comes with an overflow hose and a cap for the two overflow ports. As long as all the parts are in their proper place our rain barrels do not let mosquitoes breed. Some rain barrels do not include screening or provide adequate mosquito protection so buy beware.
