We state that the ruling of closing one's eyes in prayer is originally makruh for it contradicts with the commandment of looking at the place of prostration. Although if one finds that if he keeps his eyes closed then it helps him to focus and attain khusyuk in prayer, then it is permissible and sometimes prioritized. sheikh imagined the verses of Quran in his head it's possible that closing his eyes helped him so it's fine.

I don't think warsh has idgham of meem from raheem and malik. I vaguely remember another mashhoor qiraa' having that but don't remember the raawee.

It’s the same meaning, the style is just a bit different, but the translation and words are the exact same.
Not exact always but the two meanings always build on each other but never contradict.
