BigHit's gotten to the point where they literally bought Ariana Grande and Justin Beiber's management company. And to think, the only reason they became successful was because of BTS. Right now, BigHit created a new name (Hybe) where they now operate many different labels (BigHit, Pledis, SBS records, Zico's label....I forgot the name lol, and a couple of others), with BigHit being the main label, housing BTS, TXT, and Lee Hyun :)
Slight correction - BigHit/HYBE bought their management company (Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings), not their record labels. While BigHit functions as both for BTS, for Western artists, they are two separate entities.
9:23 pre-debut army here. They did all live in one bedroom even after debut for 2 years before they moved to their other apartment back in 2015 (they wrote the song move about it). so yea even after debut they all lived in a one bedroom appt. also although they all have their own personal homes that they purchased now they still live together (they prefer it, it is not mandated by big hit that they have to do it)
Just wanted to interject real quick - I'm still watching! Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) still means Bulletproof boy scouts (that is the Korean to English translation), they just added the English meaning to make more sense for an international audience. I think they were probably just struggling to explain the acronym, since BTS comes from Korean words, in English interviews, so it just made sense to extend the meaning to English words that made up the acronym, as well. Edit after finishing: I wanted to add that BTS lived together in one room until they received their first win with "I Need U", I believe. They then moved into a new dorm with 3 rooms (so 2 members, 2 members, 3 members) for a bit. They all still currently have an apartment together - all the members have their own room except for Jimin and Jhope who still share a room (they DO have their own apartments, as well). I've been an ARMY since before their debut, so I remember dumb tidbits like this! Thank you SO MUCH for your reactions. I really enjoy your sincerity in your videos!
Yes, and I think J-Hope and Jimin rooming together is by choice not by necessity. I'm not sure but I think I heard it was that Jimin didn't want to be alone when he's in the dorm.
I am a 60 plus army ... And I am not ashamed .. These guys are beautiful human beings ...and I cannot say enough good things about them . Listen to their un speech
You had a question about how much they decide the direction of their music/music videos etc. So from what I know, the BTS members have full direction over the music that they want to create and work with other writers, producers, and company staff to create their art. Their CEO and producer (Bang-shi hyuk) then reviews their lyrics, production, and song submissions and gives tips and pointers on how to improve the song. I remember Yoongi was talking about how he showed the song "What do you Think" to his team and they were a little bit hesitant about whether or not the lyrics were too much lol, but then Bang PD told him to do whatever he wanted and that would fit his artistic vision. He still ended up editing the lyrics a little bit so there is a bleep out part that goes "and all those ******* pass out from being pissed as hell." I still wonder what the original lyrics were :'D (possibly he started dropping names? Or maybe like a super serious Korean curse word cause the whole song is pretty explicit? We'll never know.). For the rest of the process, BTS rely on their team for things like styling, choreography (the members have choreographed a couple times as well), set design, and music videos. The storyline is also something that their company thought of and then they shared their ideas with the members using storyboards
Bang PD was giving a long talk about how BTS had achieved success and was explaining how they have been able to build such a strong team when often groups have conflicts which lead to them splitting up. Church? I don't think so. Good business sense more like.
Oh ok so it was like a presentation kind of thing? What does Bang PD stand for? Police department? I was really just joking about the church thing haha I really respect what they have done business wise 😄
@@BenCooperMLM PD means producer...and Bang is just his last or family name. He also helps in the production process sometimes even though he is the CEO. BigHit is really just a big family
I'm 55 and consider myself ARMY for 2 years now. I first saw them perform on SNL and knew nothing about them or anything related to K-Pop. I was blown away by their performances and stage presence. After the performance, I was thinking: What did I just watch? Lol I had to know more about them, so I started learning about the group, each individual member, their history, their agency, their CEO which then expanded my curiosity about the S. Korean culture and the country itself. I haven't stopped learning in these past 2 years. I'm so proud to be one of their fans. It's just incredible what they have accomplished with their platform and how they have impacted and touched so many lives in such a positive way. One of my favorite things to do when I was in high school and college was going to concerts. I went to alot of concerts lol and enjoyed them, but I certainly didn't feel any deep, personal connection to any artist or group (exception: Steve Perry of Journey - my biggest crush lol). The last concert I attended was in the early 2000s when a friend of mine won 2 tickets for The Backstreet Boys concert. It was fun watching all of the teenage girls screaming and the performance was really good, also. I bought my first BTS concert ticket last year. This concert has been postponed until further notice due to the Pandemic. I think I'm more excited to attend a BTS concert than the ones I attended when I was younger. I'm excited to be amongst other Army and to know that we all connect on a personal level regardless of anything that defines us and that's what makes this experience so special and unique. I'm thankful to have this experience and just watch on the sidelines all of the marvelous achievements that the members of BTS and their agency have in store for their fans and for the world. It is truly amazing.
I seriously doubt anyone really uses 'Beyond the Scene'. I think they were just trying to come up with an english phrase for people who might be put off by a foreign language.
I'm 48 yr old American female who is a long time (over ten years) V.I.P. (fan of kpop kings BIGBANG). I am also an ARMY after my 10 yr old niece became a super fan. Like BIGBANG, I havent found one song of BTS's I didnt like yet. I LOVE that my niece has such a great group to watch, listen to and follow, not only because they are hard working and talented but because of the positive, self love message. All young people, and old, need that message.
I love how JK's tattoo also shows the members initials (the A is actually a V, and the J is places above the M, and it says RM, Y for yoongi, and of course the J for the rest).
To add to xceleste mentioning about bts talking about social injustices, they almost got blacklisted by the korean government because of their song "am i wrong?". These boys really have been true about what they speak up for since day one and i really admire them for that!
The difference is that ppl buy a hoodie or a mug and they get an album for free, like they don't hve intentions to buy that album they just got it with their concert ticket or something else that's how the bandls work but we stand in long lines to buy BTS's album for the album itself.
He said he's making 1 song per day, then the members calculated saying that's 365 songs a year, then he replied he needs day off so that's probably 200 in a year 😂
Lol. I remember one interview Suga said he making music constantly because thats the only thing he can do best. And those mixtapes didn’t coming out in one-2 months work. D-2 came out not until 4 years after the first mixtape released (Agust D). RM's work also came out years after hisr first mixtape. And...when RM said that he is lazy...I just like no, babe!
If you want to know the power of army, I heard BTS become guest in recent korean varity show quiz on the block. And army buy all Adds slot when that show air. U know so many company wants buy for add slot when there's a show with BTS as a guest to promote their product. But it all taken by army. So when the show break add we'll see is video all bts member made by fans or bts video. verry proud as army.
They literally lived in one room even 1 year after debut (and maybe more but I’m not sure for how long exactly) It was because of the company didn’t has a good financial situation 😢
It's ok, don't worry about comparing. We usually protest it because some people want to just put them in a box somewhere (especially something like the next One Direction). But you seem to be genuine and are just trying to conceptualize BTS in the terms you know. I love your reaction. And the girls were awesome! Love to see fellow ARMYs 💜. You nice, Ben, keep going 😃
BTS members have regular meetings about their music, they decide the theme of the album, the outline, even the numbers of songs in an album and share their finals w/ company. music writing/ producing process is more like a competition in all 7 members, each of them send their melodies, lyrics, etc., and all 7+company choose the best ones. 'blue and grey' by V was supposed to be in V's mix tape, other members liked it, then was included in Be album. For 'Stay' by JK, V recommended it to be in Be album after listening to the song. Suga chose 'telepathy' in his unreleased old music files, handed it in, and bingo in Be album. once they choose the songs for their album, they all start to work again together for better quality, but this time members choose which songs they are going to work on, it could be V, Suga, Jhope, RM together, Jhope and Jimin, Jin JK and RM, or the like.
i appreciate how unlike others instead of watching a guide to bts n learning about the members individually he learnt more about the group and their journey and their contributions
Can you react to “BTS vs Kpop” by bby gang. His videos are utterly phenomenal, and I’d love it if you could check out his other videos out as well about Kpop & BTS. They are so well-researched and non biased. He does the work that so many western reporters don’t when researching and explaining BTS and Kpop. He encapsulates so well how truly phenomenal BTS is in the Kpop industry, the pop industry, and the music industry as a whole. It helps that with how well he does his research, he shows so much respect for eastern concepts and their impact on the western world. It’s beautiful. One of the best Kpop/BTS videos I have ever seen.
@Ben Cooper Really?!! Thank you!! I can’t wait to see what you think! I think all his videos are so good! Especially the “You are Wrong about Kpop” 3 part series which you should totally film your reaction to 😉😉😉 but I hope you like the BTS vs Kpop video he made too! Utterly brilliant! I recommend you film your reaction to that one too if you want 😉😂😂 Anyway, enjoy his videos! They’re phenomenal!
If you'd like to learn more about the individual members you could react to Who is BTS: The Seven Members of Bangtan by Suga & Spice. It does have some outdated information but if you watch it with Abby and Priscilla they could help to better explain those parts.
Yes, they did sleep in one bedroom from before to at least one year after they first debuted (there’s a video of them celebrating their 1 year anniversary). Idk the dates, but they eventually moved and divided into roommates. Like, I know Jimin and J-Hope had been roommates for a long time. RM and V were before... Suga and Jin were before. These days, rumor (I only say that bc they never confirmed in statement or anything) that a few/some of them have their own place, but they often live together at the main house (referred as the dorm) when they are working together, which is all the time anyway lol. In terms of bundles, there’s a difference. Sales are supposed to count because of the album, so if you buy a concert ticket or t-shirt, you get an album. You’re basically paying for a t-shirt, and the price reflects that. BTS albums are not cheap, they are like $20-ish something, give or take (the more stuff, the more expensive). So you get what you pay for. Where actual bundles, you’re paying for the tickets/merch, and you get a bonus album. Billboard finally (it took them awhile) to do away with that, because it does not reflect true buying of the album. So bundles do not count for Billboard 200 anymore. If the label/artist wants to combine merch and album, they are required to raise the price (at least the minimum) that would reflect the worth of the album that come with the ticket/merch combined. The key part here is the pricing. Also you have to buy from artist/label own website, so there are some rules to follow for it to count now. BTS sales had never hurt, because they didn’t do bundling before the new rule against bundling, while all the popular American/Western artists you know have to adjust and figure out how to sell that would take them back up the chart.
For the living together part: Yes, most kpop groups do live together but they do have the option to move into their own homes after a period of time but BTS chose to still live together even though they have bought their own properties with their money.
I think one of the things I love about the boys is that they are all given and feel the freedom to explore musically. All 3 rappers have mixtapes and all the vocalists have solo songs. In fact on almost every album from "WINGS" and on, there are gonna be solo songs from at least some of the members if not all. And they support and encourage each other when it comes to solo work, in fact when a member is doing solo stuff they are constantly visited by the other members in support. There's no animosity or jealousy. Even one of the vocalists is planning to release a mixtape. I wonder how many bands would have stayed together if they would have been given the freedom, trust and support that these guys have for each other and for/from the company
BTS has proven you can be apart of a group and do your own solo work too, it dosen't have to be one or the other. And nobody gets jealous or gets a big ego from doing solo work. I think that's what makes BTS so special, each member could easily be successful as solo artists so as a group they are 7 times more incredible. I love that all 7 of them get to do solo stages when they tour. With so many groups only 1 or 2 members stand out and so when the groups break up not every member is successful as a solo artist. Of course with BTS many ARMY have their bias, but I would say most ARMY love and appreciate all the members equally.
Thanks for your reaction...I enjoy reactions where established and newer ARMY are watching together. I am a 62 year old Canadian ARMY and have been a fan of many great artists through the years, but never have I been more invested in an artist. You spoke of BTS tattoos....I recently got the Love Yourself:Her flower as a tattoo which was not a decision I took lightly. They have impacted my life so greatly (and for sure gotten me through this pandemic) and I wanted a permanent record of my love and respect for them. I have been to many great concerts throughout the years..The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Prince, Queen and many others, but the top item on my bucket list is now to attend a BTS concert. Thanks again for your reaction.
Hi Ben, welcome to your journey of discovery. As a musician, you will be interested to know that their discography is huge and varied (at least one full album each year, if not a trilogy, since 2014), manifesting their development from passionate hiphop roots in 2013, to their current range of musical styles as reflected in latest 2020 albums, Map of the Soul 7 and BE. Do keep in mind that their lyrics are strong when in Korean (the language barrier has never been an obstacle for ARMY) and Dynamite is actually a concession they made to reach out to a wider English-speaking audience during the pandemic. Take your time. If I were you, I’d sample their work starting with BE and MOTS 7, and then view all of their iconic MVs, before going over their other albums (many B-side tracks are well loved gems). And then, check out their LIVE performances for their stage charisma and energy! Actually, you should see their NPR Tiny Desk concert straight away! Please always be honest and remain critical as you review their songs. Never do it for clout, or just gush. We love sincere and well-informed commentators from whom we can get new insights. But we do promise a mind-blowing experience as you open up your mind and heart to these artists.
I am 65 yrs old and I love BTS. I known them since 2014. They are my HEALING MEDICINE. Their voices are so calming. Why I love them, they are very humble and kind and many more. #borahae #btsforever #godblessbts
5:44 Generally, all the companies, the first years of the group, must live together even if the company has all the resources, but this is a method for the members to become closer and to understand each other more, and it can also prevent fights that affect the group. That is why fans always say that they are not a group but a family in short for the members the group would literally be their family since they spend more time with the group than with their own family, even once BTS mentioned that they only watch to their families 2 to 3 times a year
Was not expecting to see my comment in your video 😂 I'm so glad you watched and enjoyed it though! I'm sure others have mentioned it, but a good video to get to know the members individually is 'who is bts: the seven members of bangtan', it's a bit outdated now but still the best member guide out there. Their music videos are also insane so I can't wait for you to get to those. Looking forward to more reactions from you! 😊
I appreciate you commenting!! Everyone who comments is so helpful and I try and let you guys decide what order I should do everything so that it’s just as fun for you guys as it is for me 😄
@@BenCooperMLM Totally agree with Emma on this video! It'll tell you their roles in the group and a little about them. Each song that is played in the video has each member on lead so you can also tell what their voice sounds like a bit. Love love this video.
I really liked your reaction, it's great that you are getting to know them ^^ Just wanted to say that they didn't "change the meaning" of their name, they just extended the meaning to 'beyond the scene'. They are still called 'Bangtan Sonyeondan' (Bulletproof Boyscout) in South Korea. I recommend their songs 'Fake love', 'On kinetic manifesto', 'Black Swan' and 'Spring day'.
Bundle is when you buy merch, for example, T-shirt and get album as a gift for it. Fans don't want to buy albums, they just wanted T-shirt, but it still counts to album sales. BTS never did that
The name was not changed. They extended the meaning. Looking back at it: there was no need for that. BTS are world stars and what BTS stands for and what it means knows every Army members, that is every fan.
They shared the same room with 7 beds from the time they started training until 2015 when Big Hit bought the Apartment on Hannam on the Hill fo BTS it was much larger and they loved the hte new appartment. They loved it so much some bought an apartment just like it in the area and others bought different condo in other bldgs. Still they love spending time with one another.
I just discovered your reactions today. I think you seem very genuine and it is not unusual to compare to what you know at first. Enjoy the discovery of just how amazing these guys are, it is a real joy.
The reason why other's don't put out as much albums or songs is because you have 7 talented members who can put out solo stuff of their own, you have all 7 contributing to the next album.
I think the Beyond The Scene re-branding came when they really started to take off in America and globally, mostly just to make it easier for foreign media to report on them, since many wouldn't or couldnt really use the korean name in its original script
BTS ARE INTELLIGENT GROUP. If they work with their music, they are always focus to it. BTS put more time creating their music.#borahae #godblessbts #btsforeverandever
i mean... BigHit's main label (HYBE; BigHit is a sub label/the main label of HYBE) owns Source Music (another Kpop Company that manages female group GFRIEND), owns majority of shares in Pledis Entertainment (Kpop Company that manages Seventeen and NU'EST), owns KOZ Entertainment (Korean Company that was founded by a rapper named Zico, and also manages DVWN), co owns Be:Lift (Kpop company that manages Enhypen), owns a Japanese branch that is planning on debuting a group either this year or next year. Recently got hold of the American labels ITHICA Holdings, Big Machine Label Group, and SB Projects. those are just the music branches, they also own a Social Media platform that is used by all the groups mentioned above and some other artist to communicate with their fans, they also have HYBE Solutions for non music ventures (such as education and other things) from a small company in south korea to one of the biggest companies/labels in South Korea and the Entertainment industry
9:30 just watching it right now and yeah you’re right, like they just built a whole mansion for like a million dollar just for BTS only to film a BTS in the soop season 2, like no problem ha ha ha 😳
About Bundling.... The worst part of it is that the albums that are included in these don't give any money to the artist as they are not sold. The proceeds all go to the distributor... thus taking money away from the people who actually create the product.
Not really like a church, he was explaining how their team work functions and was built in a talk/lecture about the group's management and career since he's the CEO of the company.

Suga said he makes about 300 songs a year. He doesnt discard them. They go in a suitcase. Occassionally he will bring one out rework and use it. Big Hit only acts as quality control. However Bang PD believed in RM who sais that Bang PD let him have anything he eas really willing to fight for. Once he just said 'as long as you know that will get alot of hate. Suga fought for JImin to be allowed to sing not rap. They fought to keep J Hope.

Beyond the Scene was away to make BTS more marketable to western audiences who can't say Bangtan Sonyeondan, a ploy by Columbia Records I'm sure. Probably the same reason why ON was released for the Radio featuring Sia instead of as the original masterpiece that it is.
I don't recall the amount of pausing in the previous videos, but I thought it was the right amount for this version (unless there was a previous version that was longer than 25:34).

Yup! Exactly.
Ahhh thanks so much this is so helpful!! I was wondering about all of this! This helps a lot 😄
Yes, and I think J-Hope and Jimin rooming together is by choice not by necessity. I'm not sure but I think I heard it was that Jimin didn't want to be alone when he's in the dorm.
@@BenCooperMLM Glad I could help!!

@@BenCooperMLM His family name is Bang, and PD stands for Producer.
Lol
I had to know more about them, so I started learning about the group, each individual member, their history, their agency, their CEO which then expanded my curiosity about the S.
That is good bc the OG version is waaay better imo
I'm 48 yr old American female who is a long time (over ten years) V.I.P. (fan of kpop kings BIGBANG). I am also an ARMY after my 10 yr old niece became a super fan. Like BIGBANG, I havent found one song of BTS's I didnt like yet. I LOVE that my niece has such a great group to watch, listen to and follow, not only because they are hard working and talented but because of the positive, self love message. All young people, and old, need that message.
Yes. Don't get me wrong there are some BTS songs I don't listen to that often, but there is not one song I hate or wouldn't listen to again.
55 year old ARMY here from Boston. I found them in 2015 by accident. When I needed them most as they say lol. Thanks for the reaction!
I love how JK's tattoo also shows the members initials (the A is actually a V, and the J is places above the M, and it says RM, Y for yoongi, and of course the J for the rest).
And Y for Yoongi
@@Ana-id6uk how did I forget to put that down?! Yoongi is even my bias! That comment went too fast. Thanks for letting me know. I added

To add to xceleste mentioning about bts talking about social injustices, they almost got blacklisted by the korean government because of their song "am i wrong?". These boys really have been true about what they speak up for since day one and i really admire them for that!
And *am I wrong? * is one of my favorite songs, if I need to cheer up I will play it for hours 😁

The difference is that ppl buy a hoodie or a mug and they get an album for free, like they don't hve intentions to buy that album they just got it with their concert ticket or something else that's how the bandls work but we stand in long lines to buy BTS's album for the album itself.
In one of their documentary videos, Suga said he made around 200 songs in a year
Incredible! 🤯
Oooh very cool! That sounds like fun
They literally lived in one room even 1 year after debut (and maybe more but I’m not sure for how long exactly)
It was because of the company didn’t has a good financial situation 😢
It's ok, don't worry about comparing. We usually protest it because some people want to just put them in a box somewhere (especially something like the next One Direction). But you seem to be genuine and are just trying to conceptualize BTS in the terms you know. I love your reaction. And the girls were awesome! Love to see fellow ARMYs 💜.
You nice, Ben, keep going 😃
Thanks so much this means a lot 😄😄
They said they fought a lot bcuz they're so different from each other and living together wasn't easy at all.
But now they're like a family.

Yooo,..50 years, from the Netherlands and love the boys💜
Of course with BTS many ARMY have their bias, but I would say most ARMY love and appreciate all the members equally.
im a 60yr old nurse. i love BTS. this morning i found out that a 50yo patient of mine has found them as well.

About Bundling.... The worst part of it is that the albums that are included in these don't give any money to the artist as they are not sold. The proceeds all go to the distributor... thus taking money away from the people who actually create the product.

Beyond the Scene was away to make BTS more marketable to western audiences who can't say Bangtan Sonyeondan, a ploy by Columbia Records I'm sure. Probably the same reason why ON was released for the Radio featuring Sia instead of as the original masterpiece that it is.
