- The Romans built many forums in Constantinople as the city expanded. Many of these spaces survive today with some surprising Byzantine monuments still in place.
This video is part of a series - 'The History of Byzantium goes to Istanbul.' In 2018 the listeners of the podcast funded a Kickstarter to send me to Istanbul. I documented many of the surviving Byzantine sites and have made videos about them.
I am now able to offer tours to Istanbul (and beyond) for listeners of the podcast. Email me if you'd like to know more (thehistoryofbyzantium at gmail.com).

For more information about Byzantine Constantinople visit www.thebyzantinelegacy.com/. It's a fantastic website providing breakdowns of the Byzantine buildings that can still be seen today and there you'll find most of the still images and sketches used in these videos.
'The History of Byzantium' is a podcast telling the story of the Roman Empire from 476 AD to 1453. The podcast home page is here thehistoryofbyzantium.com/ and you can support the show at / historyofbyzantium

Thank you for these videos, all of them, they are truly valuable
I will likely never be able to afford to travel to Istanbul, thank you so much for creating such well thought out and descriptive documentaries of the sites available to visit in the city. This almost makes up for not being able to visit in person.
Very fine video, clear, concise., wonderful. More please.
Popular Opinion is City was demolished in 1453 but it has been actually damaged and looted in Latin invades way before Ottoman conquered. Still feeling lucky that we have still these columns (without status on top) and several debris areas
And the damage from several large earthquakes destroyed the city several times
We don't get to see much from the local tour guide. Thanks for this great podcast Robin.
Arcadius forum column is demolished in 1719 Istanbul Earthquake

Te faltó halar más sobre la columna y el foro de Leo I. Saludos!
Wow - the photo at 1:19. I can see we look in the dricetion of Augusteion? Any more info on this photo, or the source? Or maybe it's an artwork and I got tricked?
Also, Robin, great video as always, although with this one I must say the sights make me weep more than marvel.
Thanks so much, I understand. It is artwork by the amazing Antoine Helbert www.antoine-helbert.com/annexes/
cant seem to find the « click here » at the end for the archeological museum video. I suggest you include such links on the video description next time. Thanks for the videos, I just discoveree your channel while visiting turkiye

@@Hyssar You're very kind
Istanbul 😊great masjid
Constantine the Weak, Constantine the Betrayer. He doesn't deserve to have this great city named after him.
The nominative plural of forum is fora.
I mean, yes, in Latin, but it's fine to Anglicise the morphology of a foreign word.
@@emhyrinovaremreisirinokrip7124 Thank you :-)
@@emhyrinovaremreisirinokrip7124 fine?
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is lier and murderer. This is the reason why deception and violence are everywhere.
That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our beloved ones again! :-)
You mean jeheveh, johovoh, jihivih? Tetragrammaton has no vowels. JW’s are a polytheist cult that when commenting on intellectual rigors leave signature marks of their ignorance. Stay away from Jehovah!
I blame Constantine for these types of nutters
