For those who didn't watch the series: The scientist who saved the lives of millions of people was *Valery Legasov* . Unfortunately this hero committed suicide. Search his name up to know more.
@@Knightin735 Because after he saved the people, he told the truth to the people that the government was responsible for the disaster and in return the government isolated him from the world by not letting him meet his friends or anyone. So, he recorded the truth about Chernobyl and circulated it then he did suicide because he was not able to cope up with death of thousands of people just for the sake that the government didn't wanted to tell the truth.
Fun facts: 1)The real reason the official Soviet Death Toll of Chernobyl stands at 31 is that it's the list of people who died directly due to Chernobyl, and the govt of the USSR thought to cover the other deaths due to its radiation effects under cancer death list. That's why the list of people who died due to cancer and other diseases during 1986 is high. This was done to keep the death toll directly due to the incident quite low and make sure the Image of the govt was kept secured 2) The overconfident scientist who lakh sir is talking about is Alexander Stephanovich Dyatlov. 3) Just a few days after the blast, The Nuclear power plants in Sweden, 1100 km away detected abnormally high radiation due to which they had to shut down their own reactors for a few hours before realising that the radiation leak had happened not in their country but in USSR. 4) We have managed to create nuclear fusion but we are not able to commercially use it in everyday life as the energy required to actually do the fusion is very high compared to the energy output we get from it.
Those firemans were given 60 seconds to clear the radioactive graphite and 3 divers dived in highly radioactive water to open the water valves so to run water through the core. Sadly whoever were there all died from Cancer ,Skin and Blood cancer .RESPECT TO THOSE BRAVES ❤️

@@gaminghardx Fukushima had malfuntions before the Earthquake. They were just unlucky, that the huge earthquake and tsunami both came together so abruptly.
@@am.Shub2770 they didn't have malfunctions before the earthquake. Fukushima plant is on the east coast of japan. The earthquake and tsunami damaged the plant
The nuclear engineering perspective: The actual reason behind Chernobyl accident is the miscalculation of Xenon content in the reactor core. Like control rod, Xenon gas produced as a fission product also has very high cross section for neutrons. Since the reactor was under low power state for about more than 12 hours and was relatively cool, Xenon produced due to fission reactions was not getting disbursed and was getting accumulated in the core. At midnight when the engineers began lowering power down to 700, the exponential Xenon buildup resulted in complete shutdown. But the shift in charge wanted to restart the reactor immediately, so the engineers had to withdraw all the control rods. With time as reaction started that the reactor began achieving criticality, due to fission heat local boiling and steam buildup began in the pressure tubes, resulting in steam production. With rise im temp Xenon started diffusing out too, and with no control rods, the fission reaction became uncontrolled. Power surge was exponential. When the engineers began scramming of the reactor, because the control rod tips were made of graphite which is a neutron moderator itself, insertion of control rod resulted in further power surge. Steam explosion resulted in pressure tube rupture so control rods could not move. Steam buildup lead to first explosion. Upon this the hot graphite in core and may be hydrogen due to zirconim and water reaction were exposed to atmosphere which leqd to a larger explosion.
Any science enthusiast should watch this HBO Webseries CHERNOBYL, I myself am a student of Physics. Now, the point is that: that incident is too much complex to be explained because it involves chemical engineering as well. The reactor which was employed in Chernobyl is called RMBK Reactor and it is faulty by principle of its working and many of these reactors although till active in Russia they are in line of decommissioning and many of them have been decommissioned as well. That mishap is not explainable on ths basis of Physics only as there occurred "Chemical Toxication" as well consequently the mishap being very difficult to understand. But for Nuclear Power technology, although I myself support this, if the reactor ( called the core ) is all the right by principle and and cross verified there remain two factors to be addressed: 1. Radioactive Waste Management 2. Shut down of the power plant. And the reality had been such that the shut down which is one of the requirements of any nuclear power plant actually triggered that Chernobyl disaster. A nuclear thermal power plant is not at all similar to that of a coal based power plant in terms of the shut down of that plant which means shutting down the power generation and in the case of nuclear power plant it consequently means to make the chain reaction to cease.
