Wouldn’t it be cool if you actually told us wtf you’re using in the video to age the guard. What a concept! Make sure to just rub the alcohol and not swig it 🥂
he's using a minwax wood stain. Probably one of the darker ones.
There's a better way to do it. He used minwax ebony wood stain, and steel wool. That's fine. But, the way the pros do it is to use a spray gun, or airbrush, and lightly spray an Amber tinted laquer over it. Rub it with some steel wool, heat gun to lightly warm it up and then create little cracks near the screw holes with a small hammer. In reality many vintage guitars don't have heavy ageing. They just amber over time with common little cracks where the screws go.
What's the point of showing that if you don't show what you used to make the relic colour. What a waste of time.
Lol chill out. Just find some gooey dirty crap and go to town. Dirt is uhhh... Dirt lol.
Read the can dummy
Like what you did with the house
That's a lot of guitars in your living room there fella 👍
Great job and the pickguard looks really aged and relicked. Quick question, you said, "I take this and dip it in that" , I see the link to the stain you used but what is on the rag to start?
i left a white pick-guard out in my vehicle window for a couple months in the direct summer sun. it turned yellow, but it got a bit warped by the intense heat. it would probably work better in the winter time when its not as hot.
Or screw it to a piece of plywood.
I usually just slide my pickguard between my cheeks and it gets a nice brown yellow sheen going.
Exactly. Put under my pits, slide in my girl’s cheeks while she sleeps. Put that sweat to work
Dude straight up moved into CME
Would this work with a tortoise shell pick guard? Would like it to look a little darker
I don't understand, is it a SECRET what the stain is? Can you please just add the name to the description, links die and they won't always be there. Thanks man, love the video, just disappointed when i finally see the method I want but then it doesn't tell what the product was,
I’m in the same position. I actually bought the wrong stain for this and ended up ruining my pick guard. So lame…
Minwax Dark Walnut Wood Stain
@@AlienSexGodis this based on your findings or is it the actual stain he used? :). Thanks
wouldn't golden oak or aged oak work better as it has a bit of yellow in it?
What is the stuff you rubbed into the pickguard? Also I used 1200 grit wet sandpaper and there appears to be some scratches in certain lights, is there anyway to reverse this?
Micro mesh usually helps
What is the color of the wax do you use ? Black / brown ?
‘Steer woo’
I wish you would have just shown the can of stain you used. The eBay link doesn’t work it looks like something I could get at Home Depot but you could have just said the color. So some good info but it’s almost like your trying to keep it a secret too.
What is the stuff u rubbed on it???
Is that Chicago music exchange?
whats the stain you used? the link doesn't work anymore
Looks like Chicago Music Exchange in the background. Am I right?
Guys if you want a much better method than using toxic chemicals use coffee.
Get a aluminium foil tray large enough to fit the guard in
Boil the kettle
I tea spoon of coffee per cup , and pour enough cups of coffee in the tray to cover the guard.
Let it soak in there till you achieve the stain you want , it also works for the knobs and coil covers.
Don't use toxic chemicals
Simple .
Burnt cooking oil, leave it in direct sunlight, coffee didn’t penetrate for me
nicotine m8! Smoke A LOT!!!
Burnt cooking oil is not only toxic, but a known carcinogen as well. I'll stick with tea and coffee. Also they won't leave your pickguard all greasy and stinking of stale French fries. Or just use wood dye.
What did you rub in it
CME is amazing haha
Is that CME background green screen lol
Ronald, it looks like your product link to the stain is not working. Can you give a new link or say what stain you used here?
Minwax Dark Walnut Wood Stain
00:49 Just sell a couple of those on the wall.
Seems that was "Minwax Dark Walnut Wood Stain" - eBay link in the details. 👍
Not exactly, he takes "this" and dips it into the Minwax Dark Walnut Wood Stain... what is the "this"? Look at the 1:24 mark, what is already on the rag that he dips into the minwax?
@@anthonycongiano8890 He doesn't dip it into the minwax, it was closed. I think he had already dipped it.
OK, good to know, the link no longer works. Thank's!
What make body is that? I just bough one, it’s a hard tail and look just like that.
It looks like an Allen Eden body. All of their nitro relic bodies have that exact same pattern, no matter the color or bridge option. I always see what I call “Cool Dog Falkor” on the upper horn (Neverending Story fans might see it too). And the two wear lines behind the bridge.
Now, of course with many Chinese manufacturers, Allen Eden may not be the only seller of this pattern. But I’ve only ever seen it with them. They’re about $189 on their website or eBay normally, sometimes going on sale.
@@OnAir21
Yeah, sure looks like the Allen Eden relic body. I think they overdo it, but they do use nitro even if the bodies are very light which makes me suspect a wood other than Alder, which is what they advertise. I'm also not crazy about their routing specs.
I never had the relic, although I did have a Sonic Blue poly finish. I will say that the color was nice, which made me want to work with the neck pocket and a couple of other tweeks.
Where can I purchase stee woo ?
Hahahaha
Hahahahaha
What is the stuff u rubbed on it???..
Minwax wood stain
‘Sure like them tater fries!’

Dip it where..?
“Dip it in here” what is “here”?
That.. that.. that.. yeah great. And what the fuck is THAT ? Man where is the YT 5 star voting? It was so good
