Actually, it's pretty easy to know which fun is being shot in COD thanks to the different firerates, loudness, and pitch of the weapon, even if they're around the corner

true. they dont sound like paintball guns. gun shots echo and have a mechanical sound due to the action on the gun itself. cod makes every gun sound like a surpressed gun in a movie, or a pellet rifle. also having been around audio techs most of my life bf4 gun sounds have infinitely more recording quality behind them.

Arma never has had the best sound effects. They simulate the effects of distance on sounds quite well, but over all they're not really all that good. DICE, for all their faults, are pretty much the game industry's masters of sound design.

The BF4 sounds feel more real. The COD sounds are meh.
The COD sounds are kind of tinny and don't sound like they have any 'oompf' to them compared to the BF4 ones.
That's because BF4 used the closest to the real sounds the guns make, alot of BF4s guns sound the exact same as reality too

Battlefields sounds are more pronounced and more realistic. You can sort of hear an echo too, whereas in COD you just hear a plain sound.

I own some of the rifles ( although not with automatic fire ), and the one thing I am impressed with his how relatively close the sounds are on BF. If you fire an AK or an M-14, or an AR - you know they all sound different. BF4 captured that well, so that when I fire these rifles in-game, they sound fairly close. BF strikes me as more of a simulator with a game on-top, whereas COD is just a game period.
This being said, I was also surprised how well the guns sound in Battlefield 1.

Well there's no comparison really. COD looks, feels and sounds like a retro game from the 80's that looks like it belongs on an amstrad cpc 464.
Bf4 on the other hand feels, sounds and looks amazing and really feels like a next gen game.
im not a battlefield fan boy as i have been a life long COD fan and hated all previous battlefield games until both COD ghosts and Bf4 were released,
i got ghosts as i was a cod fan and felt massively let down so thought id give Bf4 a go and have never looked back....and COD in my opinion is now history.

All the sounds in BF (since BF3 anyways) are field recorded, including tanks, explosions, whatever. It's the sound engineer that really gets the job done, though.

And also, the audio of the same guns are quite different depending on what audio equipment you're using, have you ever seen that video of DICE recording a PKM burst using different audio equipment? Each burst sounds drastically different.

If you think recoil = skill then you're not thinking right. Its teamwork, knowing how to flank, probably use cover, when to engage and disengage. But both bf and cod has a low skill ceiling, but I agree bf definitely has a higher skill cap but not by that much compared to other games.

Battlefield feels and sounds more realistic, when you fire a gun the recoil shakes the gun around which actually affects your aiming and also when you fire off a shot it actually feels heavy.
Meanwhile in COD ghosts you have barely any recoil because you know *Physics*

It was true untill cod ghosts. They even fucked up thier best side: The SP. Now even doom has a better story then cod. It's shame that they fucked up cod this hard. Let's hope that we will get a new good cod someday.

Function Rise awesome? Ghosts? Oh pls. It was a story that you how's it gonna end. Some goodguy die the big bad evil person survives for a few more sequel ens of story. At least back in the mw and bo series they tried to make you know a plot twist. Like the mw2 ending with sheaperd or bo1 with mind fucked alex and imaginery resnov. Those were rly good elements and ideas. Ghosts had the only good idea that you could drive a tank like in cod1 or cod2 or in even w@w. The rest is a typical how to make a simple story.

I know hating CoD is the thing, but honestly aside from audio quality Ghosts had better sounds for a lot of the guns. M9A1 sounded pretty bad, but Battlefield makes most ARs sound silenced or muffled.

battlefield has the best ambience ever no call of duty since mw2 and soaps death of course has had ground shaking impact on my gameplay, I love hiding in buildings and watching the safety fall down around me I like how I know where and how far a bunny sniper is when the sound of their bullet wizzes past my face leaving a faint bullet trail ohhh the good times (jeepstuff out)

The problem is that the sound of CoD are fake, and the ones in BF games are the real deal. I'm obviously talking about when you put the audio to 'War Tapes'. :)
to reply to this comment since its stupid and poorly written. the sounds in bf4 are based on real bullets! they shot real guns for the sounds while cod since the beginning has just made there own sounds for guns and made sure they sounded close to the originals but yet different from the other weapons so you can tell the difference. in the end you are also looking at two different guns and comparing them as well since the guns in cod ghosts are harden black ops unit guns so they use higher calibers that are more expencive since there's less units to spend money on. bf4 has smaller ammunition since its cheaper to use lower caliber weapons this is another reason why there's a difference to the sounds. not to mention the sounds in bf4 were made in nevada desert in the open field so thats why they make a loud crackling sound after being shot while the cod ones are computer made making them have no cracks after being shot (cracking sound is the bullet piercing the speed of sound making a poping sound
black ops units don't change the caliber of guns. It would cause far too many problems with reliability.

Honestly neither game captures the punch and bass most of the guns have.
Something they don't take into consideration is that shorter barrels with faster bullets are louder than their longer (sbr, carbine, rifle focused) counterparts. Sounds in environments are mostly okay except for inside of a building.
Shooting a m4 or akm inside of a house w/o earpro is strait up deafening and disorienting, you can bear it with any earpro that reduces sound by 24 decibels or more.
The battlefield games have had better sound overall imo, but nothing really captures the experience quite like handling the guns and ordnance.
Playing Battlefield with the volume up too high can be pretty damn intense. Though I agree, nothing can compare to the real thing. Mainly because people don't like going deaf.

Major Degtyarev No I'm just a civilian my first shot was at 7 years old with my dad's .22 heard 9mm, 375 and 12 gauge so I know what I'm talking about. Also my father who tried more guns than me from 9mm to a FAL 7,62 told me they sound different, I belive my dad and my experiences.

Battlefield sounds are affected by its enviroment drastically, whilst call of duty sounds are raw sounds without barely ANY ambience added to it, wich proves how low quality production the sounds in call of duty are, if you ever played Arma 2 ACE, you'll be surprised how all guns sound the same and how loud/sharp they sound, battlefield sounds way more like real, immense firearms, and if you played the game it just offers much more in sound spectre then Call of duty
