My tour of Paris in the late 1980's I was so awe struck by this building I spent 4 hours at a coffee shop admiring every detail. I would have spent an entire day if I could have went inside. I recreated it in a game called Minecraft with my Grandson.
Really enjoyed this video. I know I visited the building prior to 1995 because I have photos of the interior, but I honestly don't remember touring it. I have a painting of the Opera's foyer and staircase in my own foyer. Knowledge of the building really adds perspective to the book and musical Phantom of the Opera.
Yes, in 2015 I had the privilege of visiting the Palais Garnier. The grand staircase is beyond the realms of reasoning and for that, I was in awe. As well, the upper hall with the mirrors and chandeliers, I would say, would rival that of Versailles (having been there.). In as much that I admire Marc Chagall, I feel his ceiling painting should have been incorporated into a new structure rather than covering the original ceiling fresco.
I've been to the Opera, and I must say that the public tours are overpriced, for the limited view they allow you to have inside the theater, and NO photos are allowed.
@@Georges_Haussmann OH Monsieur Houseman I apologize. Your work is beautiful! Look at us all talking about it many years after your death. You are immortal
COMMENT: Have you been to Paris, and visited the Palais Garnier - or would you like to?
I attended a performance there, so indirectly "visited". A magnificent grande building. She is almost overwhelming in her beauty.
