#askGMBNTech before Henry leaves, could you please have him make a short video showing how to do his door jamb tubeless bead setting trick that he always mentions? I have thought about it and just cannot wrap my head around how it could possibly work.
#AskGMBNTech So I have a SRAM SX Derailleur horrible thing, ghost shifts, skipping all sorts. I will replace it with a Deore shortly my question can I run a M6100 with the SRAM cassette? Also would it be worth chasing SRAM for warranty to have one as a spare or maybe one that works? Bike is used for park and DH.
#AskGMBNTech Hey guys.... Great show! Love it! Can I ask though, is it possible that you lock the door so Henry can’t leave?? He’s gonna be missed! #TopPresenter
Loved cycling with Henry at Evesham Wheelers back in the day and then unexpectedly bumping into him at Fergburger in Queenstown NZ was quality. Really nice guy who loves cycling.
The head tube angle question really hit home to me why my Trek Mt. Track 850 feels like riding on top of a sideways door once I'm going downhill. I hate blaming my old hoopty when I'm having trouble with something, but this just explained why it feels like that. Now I'm twice as impatient for the bike I want to be in stock so I can order it. ARGH!
@@FirefighterBobby just an experiment so far, I listened to the interview in German by MTB-news. I got a bit crazy time consuming project going on, trying to translate it. 😃 so much good information. th-cam.com/video/pBfmQfrughI/w-d-xo.html I have only been able to translate about half of it so far., using my knowledge of German, dict.cc, hopefully it's useful. I wish they added captions.
@@FirefighterBobby So far I posted comment with all I was able to translate so far. I am not finished watching it, I got so caught up in watching it first I forgot to think about translating, so I began somewhere in the video.
FYI I changed my Yari B1 110mm to C1 140mm, and as far as I can tell there is only one upper length available, the only difference is the scale printed on the leg and boost - the replacements are all scaleless.
I've just upgraded a 160 Lyrik to 170mm the scales are 150 and 160 but was told by a suspension specialist that the stanchions are the same for all models except the scale
#AskGMBNTech Thanks for a great show, almost everything I know about MTB comes from you. My question is, I'm 99,99% sure that I will buy the Stanton titanium Sherba, but would like to know your thoughts about Stanton and on titanium mtb frames?
Re air can, some unscrew, some dont (held on by o ring). BUT a strap wrench is cheap and available in any motor factors (they are for removing car oil filters, but get the rubber strap one, not the chain version!)
I was raised on 70+ head angles. My Devinci has a flip chip but even in the steep position it still feels a little slack. It does feel better the faster I go though😂
10:34 9point8 has released an angle headset for bikes with integrated headset, it's a 3 piece design, the bups thread into the middle part. Hardtail Party installed it on one of his friend's bikes it was a Santa Cruz, but the carbon frame was not made for is of course so it required some sanding to get the cup in,cus of tiny i perfection in the hole.
#AskGMBNTech. Hi Doddy and Henry. Love the show. Sorry to hear you’re leaving Henry. I’ve really enjoyed your perspective on mountain bike tech. I ride a Cube Stereo 140 and I’ve converted it from a 26-36 2x11 to to a 32 1X11. Not a really big job but I’m trying learn how to do more of my own bike maintenance. My question is: I now have an XT shifter at the bottom of my tool box. Seems like a real waste. Can it be converted into a dropper post lever (or something even better) the factory dropper lever is okay but ergonomically not as good as most others? Thanks from Saskatchewan
While anything is possible with enough time and money. Most likely not, the dropper lever is a momentary pull on the cable and releases to lock the dropper in place after you let go, the shiftier is meant to lock in place afterwards. Also the length of cable pull I'm pretty sure is different.
steven7650 Thanks. It seems like such a waste and the idea of having a free dropper lever that would mount to my brake levers sounded like a good idea. Probably not worth the hassle to even try. Better of spending the money on a Bike Yoke or Wolftooth.
Seat the tyre with CO2, without sealant in and with the valve core removed. Just wet the bead with soapy water. Remove the canister, put back the valve core as quickly as you can and pump up the tyre to the max recommended pressure. Leave it for 5+ minutes so the bead takes the rim shape and stays in place. Then remove the 'air', add the sealant and the valve core, and with a regular pump you should have no issues reinflating it back.
#AskGMBNTech Hi guys, love the show. Really sad to hear Henry leaving, all the best for the future endavours. My question is: I have a Commencal Clash, it’s 27.5 bike with 180mm travel in front and 165mm in the back. What I’d like to do is to convert it into a Mullet set up by putting 29” wheel in front with new fork with 160mm travel. Is that route a good way of keeping the geo of the bike without changes and adding the benefit of bigger wheel up front? Or maybe go with 170mm in front as Clash has a really low bottom bracket and suffers from pedal strikes. What do you think of doing a mullet this way, will it work? Many thanks.
#AskGMBNTech I don't quite get the reverse thred. I understand it is so it doesn't unscrew it's self but it seems to go in the wrong direction to do so. For example a bottem bracket on the drive side of the bike threads in anti clockwise but when you pedal your cranks go clockwise. Thanks, love the show.
Makes a lot of sense very quickly if you hold a pen/pencil loosely in your fists held side by side: when you rotate (pedal) your right fist clockwise, the pen (spindle) wants to rotate counterclockwise. That’s what the threading is based on - precession. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precession_(mechanical) Take a look at the animation: that’s your bottom bracket from the non-drive side when you’re pedaling forward. Red circle is the bottom bracket, blue circle your spindle. The blue box shows you the direction your spindle wants to rotate in when you pedal. It takes a minute to wrap your head around. :)
#AskGMBNTech First of all I love the show and I'm so thankful for all this great Mtb content. Lately I did a full service on my 2016 Rockshox Yari. According to the service manual I changed the oil in the open bath damper. After the service the damper only engaged after 10 mm into the forks travel in it's fully closed setting. RS states an oil volume of 160 cc and I did the service according to the manual. Since the problem didn't existed before the service i ask myself if the previous owner put more than 160 cc of oil into the damper to get rid of the problem and if so could this create further problems down the line? Greetings from Germany
I'd say, since both come at the cost of more weight: Brakes: True. As long as you have enough modulation, that's good. Suspension... Depends on the bike. I don't want more than 100-140 on the talas fork DC Hardtail. On a full DH Race bike, go to town...
#askgmbntech Hey, Doddy, hey Henry! I've got an xc hardtail that came with 700 mil bars and 80 mil stem, but I feel they're a bit too narrow for me(I'm 6'4 and I've got pretty wide shoulders) and I wanna get an 800 mil bar. Is it a good idea, and would I have to change my stem to a shorter one? Also, I've got a weird fork that's 80 mil travel, but it's the same length as a 100 mil one(and it's pretty much trash). So would it be a good idea to swap it for a 120 mil, or would I be better off with 100 mil one? Love the show, have a nice day!
Eugene Filatov what bike do you ride? Usually I’d opt for the shortest stem available, because you gain so much more stability and fun! But since your not the shortest guy, you have to consider if your top tube and reach is long enough, so you still sit comfortably on your bike. For the bars I would say go for 800mm if your shoulders are wide enough and again you feel comfortable with a bar that wide on a Cross Country bike. Fork wise I would say definitely go for at least 100mm. Overforking 40mm isn’t something I’d usually recommend, because of the changes in geometry and the added stress on the headtube welds. But you said your 80mm fork has the exact same length like a 100mm fork, so going for 120mm should be the same like regularly overforking 20mm. Something I would not mind at all, because the geometry stays fairly the same and it doesn’t put to much stress on your frame if you add 20mm in the front. It seems like you’re more interested in descending, than ascending nowadays. So maybe you’d like to think about selling your XC hardtail and get yourself a nice Trail/Enduro Hardtail. If your into it and the higher price isn’t that much of an issue, you could even look at a full suspension bike!
@@rolux4853 thanks! Your advice is really helpful! Now about my bike.... Here in Ukraine, it's really hard to find mtbs in 800-2000$ range(mostly because of covid), and so I bought a cheap 300$ xc and plan to upgrade it a bit( plus if I brake it I won't be so sad). The frame is good, I swapped the saddle, grips and pedals, put on a hydraulic brake on the front, plan to swap the fork, bars and stem. Thanks again, Good luck!
I am sure all content creators in reference to bikes know this, but showing the head angle from horizontal is the correct way. Yes it is easier to unddrstand it showing vertical/fork angle, but then the angle would be somewhere around 20-30 degrees
Hi GMBN. I am looking at getting a new bike in the foreseeable future. I was looking at a 2019 slash 8 2nd hand but the 2021 slash 8 has a degree slacker head angle. How much of a difference does this make and can an angle set be fitted to a knock block headset? Thanks
#AskGMBNTech Hi guys, love the show a lot! I heard that riding a bike on a pumptrack or jumping it with the Rear Shock locked out is harmful for the shock, but how about doing the same things with "Pedal mode" activated? Thanks a lot for your answer!
Hey GMBN, nice video as always! But I want to correct one thing. You're wrong about increasing travel on the revelation fork. 1. No need for new uppers. They are the same length regardless of travel but have different printing on them. 2. The dimple is not in a different location, that's just an internet myth. It sits in relation to the piston and seal head, which are always in the same location. What changes with travel is the airshaft length and nothing else. 3. Bottom out is still handled by rubber bumpers in the lowers. The uppers are the same length regardless, because bottom out has to work. No difference regardless of travel. 4. Bottom line, YES he can without any issue use the same uppers. Get your facts straight man! ;-)
#AskGMBNTech Hello great show 2 questions: when getting a new chain there is grease on it, should I still lube it? Also I have a 2x crankset on a single speed, if I were to put 2 single speed cogs on the rear and 2 narrow wides on the front and 2 chains what would happen, would it have the effect of an oval chainring?
#askgmbntech I just took my new bike out for its first proper dirt ride. I noticed my brake rotors would rub for a bit after hard braking (say, before a corner), and then be fine when I would stop and spin the wheels to check. Is this anything to worry about, and if so, what things should I check? My brakes are shimano deore 2 pot hydraulic. I did swap the hoses from UK style to US style setup, and it doesnt feel like I left any air in there. Doubt it's relevant, but this is on a voodoo mambo HT, 180mm front and 160mm rear rotors.
#AskGMBNTech After much frustration with presta valve cores, I’m thinking of converting them to schrader with ConvertAir? Schrader valves hold hundreds of psi in our shocks not to mention are used in road/race vehicles, scuba gear, and aircraft. Presta valves make sense in narrow road rims but seem fragile and fiddly on 30i+ MTB rims? The weight penalty seems minor compared to the heavy casings and tire inserts we put on our bikes. Are there any compelling reasons not to make the switch? Also, Henry will be missed and I wish him good luck.
#AskGMBNTech Hi GMBN! I have a 2010 Specialized Demo 8 I, which has the Fox DHX 4.0 rear shock. Recently I took the spring off to cycle the shock by itself and clean it. When I got the spring back on the bike the shock would not compress. After pushing on it and trying to get it to compress, it did. But there was no longer damping to the shock. I would assume something internally broke. Is there any way to get it fixed? Or should I just buy a new rear shock? Thanks!
Sram uses a special grease on its shocks o rings (comes in the service kit), u cant use sram butter ..so butter MIGHT not be suitable on other shocks too.... Shocks do get hot on long descents, especially if a hot country like parts of mexico
#AskGMBNTech It seems that over the last few years, with all the new Geo, that the lines have been blurred on MTB categories. Does All Mtn even still exist, and what are the perimeters for defining MTB categories?
#ASKGMBNTECH Why do DH bikes usually have their seats at the height they do? We slam our seats in bmx, dirt jumping, and trials for more room and maneuverability. Since you don't exactly sit in the seat of a DH bike why not slam it way out of the way?
#AskGMBNTech - I just bought a 2021 Fuel EX8 XT and took it on a few rides on my local trails. In getting the bike dialed in, which would help with too much bounce off small rock and root chatter? Rebound or Tire psi changes or both? So far I have set the bike to Trek's factory settings but added a few clicks of rebound since , and dropped from 30 to 25psi front and rear and that helped a bit but its still not really there. anything you can recommend would be appreciated. I don't plan to do many jumps , its mostly just trying to smooth out the rock gardens and trail chatter. Thanks!
#AskGMBNTech I've come to do a deep clean of my drive train but my SRAM GX Eagle cassette seems to be stuck on my XD freehub. I think I've threaded either the freehub or the cassette. Any tips on removing it? I've removed and mounted it before now, when mounting it I've given it a good amount of lube and torqued to the specifcation given by SRAM but this is ridiculous, should I keep to these specs or just go by feel next time?
Hi Doddy and Henry, I recently purchased a new fram (Commencal Meta AM 29) and I want to fit a RockShox Coil shock. However, there is no such option yet and they use a very unusual shock (230*62,5 mm). My question is, if it is possible to buy a 230*65mm shock and change the travel of its strock? If yes, how can I do this? #AskGMBNTech
#AskGMBNTech Hi. I have a 3x7 tourney/shimano system on my hardtail, and everything works great, however there is one thing I get annoyed of. The rear of the bike where my chain is keeps making slapping sounds. How do I stop or reduce this? I am getting a chain guide soon to stop chain slap, but my derailleur also flings forwards when I land the rear wheel when doing a stoppie or a bunny hop. How do I stop this?
You can use a chainstay protector (can be an older inner tube) to stop the noise, but the derailleur goes forwards cause it lacks tension, only thing you can do is swap it for a better rear derailleur. I had a bike which was 3x7 as well, rode 2000km with it, sold it and buyed a new bike with Sram's SX (1x12). You have to pay more attention with the hanger alignment and general gear setup (cable tension, etc) but my chain never came off again.
Hi, I've been having a problem with my front wheel on my budget hardtail for a few months now. I store my bike with the wheel off, and the wheel does not seem to go into the same place every time I put it back on the bike. The wheel also moves sideways through out my ride, making the brake rub, so I am constantly having to remove the wheel and hold it in place while I tighten the quick release. I never used to have this problem until recently. Any help or advice would be well appreciated. #askgmbntech
Sounds like a loose cone. Take the wheel off, grab the end of the hollow axle and try to push and pull it in and out of the hub - do you feel play? If there’s more than a tiny bit (less than a millimetre), that’s a likely culprit.
Because people like to believe in stupid hypes, flat planets, invisible man in the sky, Elisabeth's age and sram having 1by before Shimano. Apparently it's because it's sliding better and adds longetivity and optimal performance the way they do it. We should pay more and not ask questions.
#AskGMBNTech Great show! I been meaning to ask: I reinstalled Shimano calipers on my bike after buying new pads as I started using the not so old Jamis Durango SX, the issue is: the back brake caliper doesn´t align properly with the disc or wheel (I've already tried trueing the wheel, checked for a bent rotor, also tried with different wheels), so the rotor and the pads rub to the point where the wheel it's not moving at all unless you apply force. I've tried many of the troubleshooting on your videos to no results, any ideas?
#AskGMBNTech I have a 2015 Cannondale Trigger Carbon 2 with 27.5 wheels and a 2x drivetrain. My rear cassette is worn out. I'm tempted to upgrade to a 1x instead of just replacing the cassette, but am not sure it is worth putting that much money into a almost 6 year old bike that I've basically ridden into the ground (for instance I broke the rear triangle last year). How do you decide when to upgrade a component on an older, beloved, bike, versus go shopping?
#AskGMBNTech I have a 2019 Specialized Stumpjumper ST Carbon Comp. It has a head tube angle of 67.5 degrees. What information do I need to know to find out what angled headset would be compatible for my bike? Can you suggest a sound option? I would like to slacken the head tube angle to 67 or even 66.5 degrees. Do you think this is a good upgrade as most short travel trail bikes are now running angles in the 66 degree range?
#askgmbntech I know this isn’t your usual question, since it’s about a very specific type of bike, which you normally not cover. But could you explain to me why the newest generation of wheelie bikes (like the Collective C100 for example) opts for a geometry that was the norm for Cross Country Mountainbikes at around 2008? Almost 70 deg headtube angle, 71 deg seattube angle, pretty high standover, the same toptube length as the bikes back then etc. Why is this geometry considered especially good for wheelies? I was very surprised when I found out about these bikes geometry. Usually the wheelie bikes were scaled up BMX cruisers, which were pretty decent in terms of riding on your back wheel, so why the drastic change? Also would I be able to build myself a nice and cheap wheelie bike with the XC parts from back then or is constantly riding on the back wheel to much stress for these lightweight parts? P.s.: I love your show, you’ve all came such a long way and made something really special out of it! Thank you for your amazing videos and all the great advices. It’s so sad to see Henry leave, since he grew on me so much from the first time I saw him. I wish him all the luck on the world on his future paths, and hopefully we’re able to see him in front of the camera again one day.

#AskGMBNTech Hey guys! Love the show! So I'm planning to buy a Magura MT Sport brake on the front and I'm wondering what (180) rotors should I buy that is compatibe with the semi-metalic pads on the brakes?
#AskGMBNTech Hi there! I have two bikes, one hardtail (Decathlon 540) and one full suspension (Decathlon 540s), i know they are not the best bikes but they do the job right now. On the full susp i have 19c rims and on the hardtail i have 23c rims. My question is, how big i can go on the tires? On the full susp i have 2.2 Trail King with 55-584 on the back and on massive Mountaing King 2.4 60-584 on the front. I like the grip but sometimes i feel like the front has a mind of it's own :). Should i go 2.3 or get the rims from my hardtail? Thank you!
Hello, my forks fail to track small bumps and I have tried setting up many different ways, I have the 2017 rockshox lyrik (new from box recently) and it does not have high speed compression adjustments, just low speed. Is this to do with me being 10 stone or is it the high speed compression? #AskGMBNTech I bought them forks after watching videos of them tracking small bumps and would really appreciate it if you guys could help me figure it out.
For someone who wears or 400 lb what's a good mountain bike I was thinking about getting a full suspension aluminum or steel frame weight doesn't matter on the frame size so wanting to ask you it's a false inspection by good for a person who weighs over 400 lb if not what if he gets a heart tail for me
I am not sure the suspension matters in terms of the frame not breaking. I broke my fully. At the rear. But definitely go steel. Think oceangate. Steel can take what it can take over and over. My Alu one broke doing nothing just a curb. Fatigued
Hello! Am a newbie, and its my first time building my own bike. Its a hardtail, a dartmoor primal 2020 29er. My concern is this. I've got IS brake mount type of frame, and its max rotor 180mm. And i also got shimano saint brakeset which is post mount and 180mm sram centerline rotor. What type of adapter do i use? Is it 0mm IS to PM adapter? Thanks.. #AskGMBNTech

#AskGMBNTech Hi, I am a tri and gravel rider from Hong-Kong, and ready jump on MTB right now. I got a Lapierre Spicy 527 (2017) old stock from dealer, it has a 170mm travel fork and 230x57.5mm shock with 165mm travel, I want to change a coil shock for better traction (that’s cool). Unfortunately, 230x57.5mm size is rare on market. But I saw a lot of same E2E shock with little bit longer stroke, any problem if I mounted a 230x60mm? I guess it will not change bike geometry. Love your show, a GCN and GMBN fans from HK.
#AskGMBNTech I have a non tapered (trail HT) frame and i will buy a tapered fork and install it with adaptor for tapered fork, my question is does the non tapered frame with tapered fork and adaptor has the same stiffness with the tapered frame and tapered fork?
#AskGMBNTech why does my giant fathom 2 2018 make creaking noises? i started doing wheelies and bunny hops and the sound started being more consistent, even if im merely commuting
Integrated headsets: not to mention they aren't replaceable as a unit part -- damage the cups, replace the frame!? Nonsense. The frame shouldn't be a wearing part.
#AskGMBNTech Hey guys - while looking to buy a trail bike, I've come across many reviews describing some bikes as "comfortable on longer rides" while others are said to be the opposite. What is "comfort-oriented" geometry? I keep reading how bike X is "tailor-made for long days in the saddle" while bike Y is "more aggressive and less comfortable on long rides". What makes a mile-muncher, long ride and comfortable bike, and what makes a bike less comfortable and less suitable for long days in the saddle?
#askgmbntech hi, please can you explain the installation of tapered forks in straight steerer frames as I am looking to upgrade my fork on my older bike
Check if your straight headtube can fit top bearing like ZS44/28.6 (read as - "zero stack" cup and bearing will be inside the frame, 44mm is the internal diameter of the top of the headtube / 28.6mm is the outer diameter of the top of a tapered fork). If your frame headtube top can fit 44mm cup then you can go with EC44/40 at the bottom (read as - "external cup", the cup will be installed inside the headtube but the bearing will not be fitted inside the headtube, 44mm is the internal diameter of the bottom of the headtube / 40mm is the outer diameter of the bottom of a tapered fork). And this is probably the only option of installing tapered forks into straight steerer frames if straight headtube is internally 44mm wide, of course. I've heard about straight headtubes 49mm wide internally which can also run ZS/EC combo to fit tapered forks. Probably pictures will tell you more, so google for merlin cycles "buyers guide to mountain bike headsets", at the end of the article they have schemes with all the most popular options. Look for options where 28.6mm at the top and 40mm in the bottom. My bike is running a tapered fork in a straight headtube by using ZS44/28.6 + EC44/40 combo. Keep in mind that external cups slightly (barely noticeable) changes the geometry of your bike as it is adding 5-10mm to the bottom of the headtube which is effectively lengthen the fork in terms of geometry and make the bike a little bit slacker head angle. Sorry for the long read, hope it helps 😎
goozzz666 Oh my, thanks for this. The extra 5-10mm is very welcome as slack=speed 😎 the other issue is the hub tho which is probably easier that I would think. My bike isn’t thru axle so I could only get a cool new front wheel! Cheers for the info 🤙
Check if you have any volume spacers. If you do, you may want to experiment by removing some (or all) spacers to allow the fork to compress through all its travel. Good luck 👍
@@meirsnyder3460 Check the top air side. Good guess its shoveled full of grease as mine was (Fox 34 Rhythm). Works as bad volume spacer. There should only be slight grease, especially on the seals. If there is any, clean it.
Yes, half a degree probably doesn't but 71 vs 68 vs 65 is noticeable even by a newbie. Though it probably makes less of a difference than when I forget to adjust my rebound damping and pogo off a rock, lol.
#AskGMBNTech Hi I'm really enjoying the content you put together each week. Could you recommend a good light for riding my local woodland trails now the sun is setting earlier. Would only running a bar mounted light be ok or would I need a helmet one as well?
#AskGMBNTech Hi guys! I ride a Chisel with 90mm stem and 750mm bar, which is absolutely great for climbing, as well as terrible for descending. I’d like to change those for a wider 780mm bar and a shorter stem... will a 60mm stem make any difference? Will a 45mm stem mess to much with the geometry? I Can’t decide. Thanks guys.
Hey Mitchell! It really depends on what you're doing. If you are going downhill, it doesn't matter that much, on flats, the heavier your bike is, the slower it's gonna accelerate and stop if you don't touch the brakes. Where you'll feel the most difference, is climbing. If your bike is heavy, you'll have to push all those extra kilos up, so if you do a lot of uphill, definitely go for a lighter bike. Hope I could help, Good luck!
Love the bike design th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and functionality. It is hard to align the front tired to center the disk brakes. The brake wheel touches the stationery side of the brake caliper and pad. I aired the tire up to 40 psi as the markings say 40-60psi. Left the house for a few hours and came back to an exploded innertube. All in all it seems to be a good bike. Have not ridden it yet though so that's the max of my knowledge. Update, put a new innertube made sure the tire was set properly and it did the same thing in under 20 minutes as second pic shows.
#AskGMBNTech I have a nukeproof scout that I ride on very steep and rough downhill (it's super fun and is actually improving my line choice) it currently has the 140mm fox 36 rhythm that it came with, I would like to upgrade to a 150mm fork and have been looking at the mrp ribbon coil. My thinking is that the coil fork will give much needed extra grip on the rough stuff(is this correct?) but I'm not too sure what it would do to the geometry with the added 10mm of travel and different axle to crown length
#askgmbntech For the past few years Shimano promoted the benefits of direct mount rear mechs, and seem to still be doing on road groupsets. The 12 speed mtb rear mechs look to use a standard mount, have Shimano given up on the direct mount standard?
#AskGMBNTech i rode my bike for 6500km, in gravel, rain, dirt, generally very wet conditions, when should i replace the chain? Giant fathom 29er 2019 xc bike, thanks
The easiest way is to buy a chain checker, And just use that, It'll show you once it reaches half a percent of wear, which is when you should replace your chain. If you don't want to buy a chain checker, measure out 24 or 48 links with a yard/meterstick, since each link is half an inch, the chain shouldn't be more than 12.06 inches for 24 links or 24.12 inches for 48 links. 12.06 and 24.12 is based on half a percent of chain stretch, which is when it is recommended you should get a new chain.

head angle clearly the fastest for downhill.

He’s gonna be missed! #TopPresenter
TOTALLY. Big loss.
But his life, so unlawful imprisonment prob not good HR practice😂😋
Love your long explanations Henry, really going to miss you on the show!
Henry- Great explanation of headtube angle without going into a chapter of Milliken's Racecar Vehicle Dynamics :P
Loved cycling with Henry at Evesham Wheelers back in the day and then unexpectedly bumping into him at Fergburger in Queenstown NZ was quality.
Really nice guy who loves cycling.
Thanks Henry👍😎 good info as always
The head tube angle question really hit home to me why my Trek Mt. Track 850 feels like riding on top of a sideways door once I'm going downhill. I hate blaming my old hoopty when I'm having trouble with something, but this just explained why it feels like that. Now I'm twice as impatient for the bike I want to be in stock so I can order it. ARGH!
Absolute fountain of knowledge and clarity as ever.

This is timely. Just got some 4 piston brakes and a 180mm rotor for the front to replace my avid bb5.
Makes corners damn tough
This.. 👍
FYI
I changed my Yari B1 110mm to C1 140mm, and as far as I can tell there is only one upper length available, the only difference is the scale printed on the leg and boost - the replacements are all scaleless.
I've just upgraded a 160 Lyrik to 170mm the scales are 150 and 160 but was told by a suspension specialist that the stanchions are the same for all models except the scale
@@crit71
The lyric and Yari Stanchions are the same part too (the lower legs and damper are the only difference).

Thanks for a great show, almost everything I know about MTB comes from you.
The only thing I don't like is that the bars turn way too easy, so I can't lean my bike on walls like I'm used to.
Great questions and great answers. 👍

Hi guys, love the show.

First of all I love the show and I'm so thankful for all this great Mtb content.
You can't never have too much of 2 things,... Brakes and suspension!
I'd say, since both come at the cost of more weight: Brakes: True. As long as you have enough modulation, that's good. Suspension... Depends on the bike. I don't want more than 100-140 on the talas fork DC Hardtail. On a full DH Race bike, go to town...
#askgmbntech
Hey, Doddy, hey Henry!
Thanks again,
Good luck!

Hi guys, love the show a lot!
I heard that riding a bike on a pumptrack or jumping it with the Rear Shock locked out is harmful for the shock, but how about doing the same things with "Pedal mode" activated?

Get your facts straight man! ;-)
Man, thank you for posting this!

Hello great show
2 questions: when getting a new chain there is grease on it, should I still lube it? Also I have a 2x crankset on a single speed, if I were to put 2 single speed cogs on the rear and 2 narrow wides on the front and 2 chains what would happen, would it have the effect of an oval chainring?
#askgmbntech
I just took my new bike out for its first proper dirt ride.

Hi GMBN! Thanks!

Hi Doddy and Henry, I recently purchased a new fram (Commencal Meta AM 29) and I want to fit a RockShox Coil shock. However, there is no such option yet and they use a very unusual shock (230*62,5 mm). My question is, if it is possible to buy a 230*65mm shock and change the travel of its strock? If yes, how can I do this? #AskGMBNTech
Have a look at off set bushes. You might be able to knock the 2.5mm off.
Is a 1x drivetrain swap within your budget 🤔
You can use a chainstay protector (can be an older inner tube) to stop the noise, but the derailleur goes forwards cause it lacks tension, only thing you can do is swap it for a better rear derailleur.
I had a bike which was 3x7 as well, rode 2000km with it, sold it and buyed a new bike with Sram's SX (1x12). You have to pay more attention with the hanger alignment and general gear setup (cable tension, etc) but my chain never came off again.
Hi,
I've been having a problem with my front wheel on my budget hardtail for a few months now.

#AskGMBNTech I have Merida one twenty 9.600 that has only 120/130 travel, is there some way to add more travel or swap to some more travel components?

Hi I'm really enjoying the content you put together each week.
#askgmbntech How much difference does weight make on a bike? Love the content!
Hope I could help,
Good luck!
#AskGMBNTech What is better for climbing a full suspension xc bike, or hardtail trail bike?

I have a nukeproof scout that I ride on very steep and rough downhill (it's super fun and is actually improving my line choice) it currently has the 140mm fox 36 rhythm that it came with, I would like to upgrade to a 150mm fork and have been looking at the mrp ribbon coil.
#AskGMBNTech I’m looking at a cube it’s a really good bike but I don’t like the colour.Should I do a custom paint job
I have 2000km on my xc bike in mostly dry weather and it has something like 0.025% wear (half of 0.5%) measuring with a metric tape if it helps.
anyone else think the thumbnail was the grim donut at first glance?
