This is my absolute favorite card video. Most of my crafting has been textile so I have a room of string, thread and yarn. Your video has my brain firing on all cylinders. I love your cards but I think I will try some of these with Kraft paper for a homespun twist. Thank you so much for the creative ideas.
Wow. So full of inspiration once more! On stitching: I noticed lots of my dies have hole patterns that can be used for stitching. Flower centers, for example - irregular, great use for sparkly thread or french knots. Outlines of all kinds. The swirly is totally amazing! And the rectangle - using gradient thread/wool might look extra nice. The stuff to use to shape string around smooth shapes is water glass. Inexpensive, and best to shape it around a jar / bottle. The twine trail would make such a nice trail for a little bug in a corner, so using it much like you did with the butterflies. Love the edging idea, too! Next to the swirly, the artsy-f ... geometric stitching must be my fave. I see poking the holes, then doing watercolor swashes and finally stitching. I also loved the wrapping technique, which came up out of sequence. One more idea: Stamp withstring/twine wrapped around a stamping block is an old technique that should be revived, don't you think?
Thanks for another video filled with creative ideas. The peppermint swirl candy is simply brilliant! I've mostly used twine for bows on my cards, but you've given me so many more ideas. I really like the technique with the double-sided tape and wrapping to create a textured stripe. Will definitely try that one.
Some great ideas for using the yarn/twine we collect! An extension to one of your ideas where you used glue straight onto the card and put the twine on top which you then added butterflies, would be to write with glue and add the twine.
I have more ribbons than twines or thread from the 😊lden days when we used that and patterned pater more. But ive picked up the coolest metal cut out “ribbon” and not tried it yet. But i used bakers twine once to cover the foam on shaker cards that you could easily see if you loked on the sides. So i ran a bead of glue around and twice around with coordinating colored bakers twine! It looked so much better!
Ooh so many gorgeous cards and so many ways to use twine! I have used thin thread and sisal under focal points, with tags, of course, also to hang things from, like bunting on cards. But you have given so many cool ideas, thank you. I may have used twine a couple more ways but can't think at the mo. xxx💖💖💖
Goodness, what amazing ideas!!! They are all brilliant, don't know how you think of it all. I have loads of stuff that I have never used. I just wished there were more hours in a day!!! ❤
Very beautiful and classy. I want to add something I do with twine. I cut a scalloped circle and tape one end of my twine to the back, then bring it to the front, count seven steps away from the start point and then wrap the twine at that point to the back. Go to the start point but one step down, bring it to the front which will now be the 8th point, back to the back which will be the 3rd and wrap to the front which will be the 9th point and continue like that till everything is covered in a lovely cross cross way. I usually will have a sentiment stamped in the middle before I start and it just looks so lovely. I also use twine to do a type of basket weave design on the front of a card. I use mainly wool as it’s thick enough. It’s a lot of fun.
I enjoy doing that, too. The technique is called spirelli and simply Googling it will bring up all sorts of nice examples. It's fun to vary the number of spaces between wraps on different die cut or punched shapes to get all sorts of fun designs to work with. Thanks for mentioning it and reminding me how much I like doing it and long it's been since I've done it.
I deploy the thin ‘nest’ of either metallic or fine linen thread behind a sentiment label or focal die cut quite a lot. Thank you for the hand-stitching techniques. I don’t have a sewing machine and always rather envied stitched cards as being beyond my reach. No more!
Lots of great ideas for using the string/twine stash, love the cards. I tend to use a linen thread/twine wrapped around a panel, often with some fancy knot, great on mens cards instead of ribbon and bows.
Thank you so much for this video. I also knit and sew as well as make cards, so I have got a glut of different threads to play with. You've inspired me so much to get using them.
My mind is blown!!! So many ideas for using string. I have tons of string in my room and barely use any of it. I added this one to watch later. Your cards are gorgeous as well 😍 Thank for sharing all these techniques. They will come in so handy Natalie. ❤❤❤
Thank you for these ideas! I have quite a stash of thread, ribbon, string because I really like the texture it provides, but I haven’t had many creative ideas for using it, I have pretty much just wrapped it around the front panel or strip or I’ve tied a bow with it or I’ve threaded it through the holes in tag die cuts. 😊 Pretty results!😊
So many ideas how to use string and threads. I've always wondered how to use my odds and ends! I love them all and it was hard to choose a favourite. I do like the butterfly and the criss-cross/hello card. Thank you for the ideas and techniques to try. 😊
The red/white string on the circle reminded me straight away as a peppermint candy 😊 Great on a Christmas card. Thanks for your idea video. I use mostly gold thread and black/white bakers twine for winding around card.
I love these compilation videos!!! I have only used twine, thread and yarn on a few cards in the past and none have looked as nice as your examples. I'm going to give it a try again, using some of your techniques. I really liked the first card you made and the peppermint candy on the card was fabulous! 🩷
At the moment I am sewing some embellishments using some Spellbinder dies. I have used ribbon on some cards eg the flag card. Thanks again for sharing. ( Sorry about the half completed comment the cat jumped up and knocked my hand).
Such great ideas. I don't use my twines and decorative threads as much as I should but may do more now with some of your interesting ideas. Thanks. You've done it again -- amazed me!😃
I have psoriasis. I understand how painful eczema can be! I use First Aid Beauty cream. It's expensive but it's the only thing that really works for me. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, so the cream doesn't heal it, but it makes it less painful, itchy, and flaky. Lovely ideas!
Some lovely ideas. Will definitely have to borrow some of them. I usually only use twine on gift tags - lol. Thank you for continually sharing all your wonderful ideas. 🥰
I wish I lived closer to your charity shop! You find some great treasures there. But, alas, Los Angeles suburbs are too far for me to dash out to your charity shop.
Now I've finished the video and have notes on so MANY techniques that I've never done before with supplies I already HAVE! Thank you. What a creative brain you have.
Can I just say "genius"? I have twine that I thought I would be using on cards and such and almost never did! These are fantastic ideas that I can definitely use!
What terrific ideas and great results on your cards! Love your creativity & encouraging to use what we have. I have heaps of different coloured twine but don't use it enough and often with tags. Thank you for the continued inspiration! Cheers, 😊
Great ideas! When I saw the first card made with the stitching with embroidery thread, I thought, that's my favorite. But after seeing all the cards, I had several favorites! My least favorite are the "hairy" wrapped thread and the braided yarn, the rest are beautiful and so creative!
Natalie, you never cease to amaze me. I have A LOT of twine/threads and have only used three of your ideas! I am going to start using it , I think it’s a good idea for male cards too. Also, I have now decided on next year’s Christmas card design. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Ax
Wonderful ideas. I have used quite a few of your techniques in the past but it is always nice to have them brought back into focus. I have a good size collections of twine/threads and a container full of embroidery threads I had forgotten all about(I was a cross stitcher in the past). Time to drag all these goodies out and play. Thanks for the inspiration Natalie. Hope your hands improve, they can be so painful when dry and cracked😧
Wow😆 I have quite a few yarns from crochet projects I can use . Where can I get matte gel medium, Natalie? Do you ever get any sleep thinking of your fabulous ideas 😂
You are the queen of clean and simple cards. I am learning from you how to do this. You make this hobby affordable and possible for new cardmakers.
Wow, thank you!
