I read that only ~30% of people in Wales speak Welsh. Among speakers is it common for people speak Welsh at home as their primary language? How common is it that if you're out in public in a shop or restaurant that you would speak Welsh vs English?
Of those 30%, lots would speak Welsh at home. Those that don't are children whose parents speak English but have sent them to a Welsh school to be bilingual (becoming more and more popular now). You would mostly always speak in English in a shop but in certain places like Carmarthen speaking Welsh in shops is very common. I usually look for clues that they speak Welsh (sometimes they wear a badge to encourage ppl to speak Welsh not English for example). I don't speak Welsh as much where I live now (in a city) but in West Wales it is very common to hear it and speak it at all times.
Yay, I am learning that course! 😊 And I am further than that lesson, so I understand everything. 😊 But it was nice to hear that "ll" sound from you. I struggle to pronounce that. And Duolingo seems to pronounce it a bit different? Kinda only the "ch" sound, but you kinda say it more like a "chl". Don't know if that makes sense, it's hard to explain want I mean. But I really love the sound of that letter. And I'm kinda disappointed, that Duolingo never mentions Llanelli as a city. Oh to be honest...I didn't hear any difference english and welsh pronunciation of Dylan. 😂 Would love to see more Welsh lessons from you :) On Duolingo, but also self created lessons on a tablet or something. Great video as always. Diolch yn fawr.

Lovely video. Welsh reminds me of elvish from Lord of the Rings :)
That is intentional :) Welsh was Tolkiens main inspiration to create the language Sindarin from the elves.
I'd love to learn Welsh language. It's sounds interesting
