Whether or not this does in fact turn out to be a more active hurricane season, you bring up a great point that the summer is hurricane season regardless of the severity. This should remind cruisers that during June to November there is a higher chance of itinerary changes, rough seas, and cancellations. We should all be aware, be prepared, and be patient. Cheers!

Absolutely, it's important to remember that summer is hurricane season. Cruises during this time can be unpredictable with potential itinerary changes and cancellations. Being prepared and patient is key. Cheers! 🥂

And cruise ships are equipped with radars by miles away so they can go around

They usually can! ... or even change ports. So always practice patience 😅

Sorry…I promise I’m NOT trying to be a troll!! Hurricane season is June to November, yes you are correct that this is going to be an elevated hurricane season according to the hurricane models!! Honestly in my opinion and my husband being in the US Coast Guard a ship is one of the safest places to be in a hurricane…I know it sounds CrAzY…but it’s true!! Cruise ships in a hurricane situation are going to do their best to keep the ship out of harms way including keeping the ship, crew and passengers safe with an itinerary change away from the storms path!! More than likely you might experience a rougher than normal ride but they are NOT going to Hail Mary into a storm and risk a billion dollar ship!! Ships leave ports due to they can’t have them in port to have potential damage!! Why do you think that our military move all the ships out to sea before a huge storm…and the cruise ship companies know way in advance that a storm is near!! Please don’t tell people it’s not safe to travel this summer!! 🛳🌊

Thank you for your detailed comment, @candicelind3311! I appreciate your insights and the information from your husband’s experience in the US Coast Guard.
While it's true that cruise ships are well-equipped to handle adverse weather and can often avoid storms by changing their itineraries, it's also important for potential cruisers to understand the risks involved. Even with advanced technology and planning, unexpected weather changes can occur, and rough seas can lead to discomfort or even safety concerns for passengers.
Your point about ships leaving ports to avoid potential damage is well taken, and it underscores the precautions that are taken. However, it's also worth considering that during hurricane season, there can be a higher frequency of itinerary changes, port cancellations, and other disruptions which might affect the overall experience.
Ultimately, it's about making an informed decision. For those considering a cruise during hurricane season, it's wise to stay updated with weather forecasts, understand the cruise line's policies on cancellations and itinerary changes, and consider purchasing travel insurance.
Thanks again for sharing your perspective and safe travels to all!

Been on dozens of cruises, and several times out while there was hurricane or tropical storm. I was always either on Carnival or Royal Caribbean. They immediately took us in the opposite direction of the storm. Sometimes the ocean got a little rough, but never anything dramatic on our ship we were on at the time. One time they did have to cancel the days big entertainment show of the night, but they substituted it with some stationary singers, and still brought out a comedian. No dining rooms or buffets were ever closed. That particular time just happened to be hurricane Sandy, they took us further west out into the gulf, gave us free Internet, drinks, and we got an extra day and a half cruise. They also assisted with rebooking transportation when we docked. I totally trust the cruise captains but most of all my faith is in God to take care of me. I know I’m not leaving this world one day before He says it’s my time. Happy sailing 🛳️⛴️🛥️

I’d be careful with postponing on Royal Caribbean, they’re off to tell you there’s nothing they can do, or they’ll refund you everything but your deposit!

Yea, Royal is not the best when it comes to that!! Unfortunately

I live in Florida, they predict bad storms every year, I'll take my chances. Cruise ships go further out to sea during storms, have a fun day at sea. If I worried about what might happen, I would never cruise.

We have Booked cruises for this aug & end of sept.. I always cross my fingers when i book 🌀 season.. the ships go around them, but can still b miserable trip..lousy weather, high rough seas, missed ports, not to mention if fla is in the cone of uncertainty, airports can close leaving passenger's w no way to or from the ports.. trip insurance is a must & Bonine pills..(dramamine just makes u sleepy).

Yeah, utopias now second accrues, that was supposed to be the first one, but no, they they now have the ship coming in early, and did absolutely nothing to compensate people for now, not having an inaugural cruise. Hope you enjoy it though.

Oh no! I'm sorry, I actually didn't know that! Yeah, as of lately, with all these new ships making tons of money... feels like they don't care or put customer service first 🤷‍♂️

I've traveled for YEARS on cruises and 99.9% of that time is ALWAYS during Hurricane season and no issues and when we have weather issues they go around or cancel a port. This is very misleading to tell people not to cruise during Hurricane season. My worst experience was during Non-hurricane season, it was in March and I live in Florida...

Its said in other comments, but the main thing to be prepared for in the summer cruising season is itinerary changes and the length of your cruise could change. In 2004 I had a Disney cruise to Nassau and their beach island, instead we went to Cozumel and had 3 sea days, arriving back to Ft Laud instead of Port Canaveral, 1 day late. Pack your patience.

Thanks for the heads-up! It's definitely important to be flexible and prepared for changes during summer cruises!! 😅
