The recent patches have made him much harder. Overall he's pretty strong still but requires a lot of skill to consistently combo into his optimal stuff.
Worth noting, a few of the places that you would use c.S>jc.HVV to clean hit, you can do c.S>delay HVV to get a clean hit, if you have trouble consistently getting jc.HVV, which I do. There may be a few places where you can't do this, but most of your optimals do (ex ending a combo with j.D>66 c.S>HVV, or confirming off of vortex)
If any of your are struggling with c.s>jc.HVV like I was, you can buffer your jump after pressing c.s so that you have enough time to cleanly input HVV. To do this, you input jump IMMEDIATLEY after c.s so that you can cleanly input HVV in the air and get the clean hit as well. Hope this helps
You can do TK DP inputs by just spinning your stick 360 degrees starting at 6 and going up. That would make it clockwise if you're facing left and counterclockwise if you're facing right. It's a bit weird for me to do but other people have said that it works great for them so I'm just throwing it out there in case someone else finds it useful.
Another important thing is that it helps to plink your buttons to do this. So hit 6S, and as you're hitting it, bring your other finger down on P/HS in order to get the input.

If you get a HVV that doesn't clean hit, you're doing it too fast. If you get a 6S, you're doing it too slow. If you get 6H, you're missing the DP input. Make sure your input history is clean and you're getting the full, correct sequence.
Fake GF recovery is more than the recovery of any move it can be canceled into except 2H. So basically it's almost no difference ( tension gain is not that great ). It was a very good example of canceling 5K into Fake GF though when you know that wall break will happen.

I’d like to be able to make use of Kara moves reliably, but I don’t want to have to get a stick or change the way I play for just for the sake of that.
For pad i find the easiest way is to have the button your character uses to kara cancel assigned to R1, so for example when i play Potemkin i reassign my button layout on pad so my R1 is my K button because Potemkin uses his 6k as his kara, just make sure you have your R2 as dust and assign the face buttons in whichever order feels best

Kara cancels increase the startup of the move by 3 frames and naturally extend your hurtbox since it moves your character forward. If your goal is to stay from your opponent or to hit them as quickly as possible, it might be better not to kara cancel.

I'm year late but delayed HVV doesn't give a meterless bombo in corner so it's better to practice j.HVV tbh

After the patch i think i got it once and the damage seems pretty low, also 6s no longer combos in some situations. Was there a change?
yes. 5K no longer combos into 6S, and clean hit volcanic viper does 100 damage instead of 135

Only kara if you need the range, otherwise it adds frames to startup.

In order to get the 6S correctly u have to do 5k (2hits) not 1 hit and while it connects the 2nd hit hold 6S and then 23HS
