    Picked mine up off craigslist for $300 from an old couple up northeast in Jersey. I then paid $49 to over night the unit which also included a shipping box, They bought it for their trade shows but took it to only 1 show and never used it since. It has been sitting in their living room just plugged into the wall for 4 months, They didn't have the original box so this video helped out with knowing everything. Nice Job.

    Thanks for sharing Anthony. An extremely useful piece of kit that everyone should have. It just makes sense.

      Thanks for watching. I agree. This piece of gear can really help save you from a lot of frustration in a SHTF.

    Great review. This is an area I'm weak on. I especially like the idea of connecting multiple units together. Thanks!

      Thanks for watching. Connecting multiple units together is a great option, but just having something like this can really help out in a disaster/emergency/SHTF event.

      U can chain it to external batteries too 😊

    Yeti 400 : I have connected 4 regular 26ah batteries to the unit via 2 Anderson chaining cables and 2x2 +/- battery cables now for a year.
    Output : I connected 8 goal zero lamps to it plus i charge everything that has an usb port on it including 3 powerbanks with 22000mah each and a wireless iphone charging station and 2 pc's !
    Input : I have 4 - 30w Boulder solar panels but with the weather now i only get 10w average input from them !
    So i charge the rest with the included charger which is connected to a regular dusk and dawn volt circuit breaker which turns on when the sun is set and goes off when the sun rises !
    Then the weather determines how much I have to save on the electricity bill as it is fully automatic.

    Good stuff. I recently did a review of this unit and some other Goal Zero products myself.

    Good video, thanks for posting. I was thinking of possibly getting the big model (the 1250), but now I'm thinking getting one of these, and adding a 2nd or even a 3rd unit down the road. The advantages to doing it that way is 1-you have more versatility in a power outage (spreading 3 units throughout the house, instead of being stuck with one), 2-I don't have to spend so much $$$ in one shot, and 3-for the same money as the big one, you get the same power out of 3 of these when you gang them together. The advantage of the big one, is that you only have to move 1 unit around, instead of 3, if you need to bug out. What are your thoughts on that? Go with one big one, or 3 smaller units? Thanks!

      @biblesnbarbells  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am thinking along the same lines as you are. Do not have to spend $1200.00 up front and can have multiple Yeti 400's and chain together if needed. When bugging out remember you may be separated from your family, so if your wife had one of these in her vehicle and you had the other, you both now have power back-up. The large battery is 100 lbs and may be too difficult for a woman or a child to pick up and load into vehicle. I like the Yeti 400, only 29 lbs. Right now I have the Yeti 400 at home as our base station and the Yeti 150 (12lbs) in my van. I like 2 or 3 smaller units.

    Bed Bath and Beyond has the Yeti 400 for 399.00. You can probably use a coupon with it for another 10-20% off.

      Thanks for the info. I had no idea they carried these.

    • @DonO1970WNY
      @DonO1970WNY 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this works! Thank you! I get the 20% off emails from them all the time (which I typically ignore). I got one the other day, and it was good for 20% off one item online (plus free shipping over $49). I put a Yeti 400 on order, used the coupon offer, and got one for $319.99 (plus tax, of course). One is on the way! The Yeti 150 is $179.99 on their site, which would knock the price down to $143.99 plus tax, with the coupon. Who knew?

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! That is some of the best pricing I have seen on these units.

    Great unit the Yeti 400 is, one is shipping to me now, getting it this week.. Looked at the Yeti 150, but have the Sherpa 50, and also looked at Yeti 1250, but too big and heavy. I may get a couple panels for the roof, with some batteries, but that may be too much right now. Thinking of getting a couple Boulder 30 panels, sometime.

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geoffr524 That is great news! You will really like the Yeti 400. A few Boulder 30 panels will serve you well also. Take care.

    So this has some sort of internal battery? I don't need to buy 12v car batterys? Also what happens if it starts losing charge power? this looks more simple to use and all I need is a solar panel.

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a 33 mAh battery. You can re-charge by plugging into the wall or charging in your car while driving via a 12 volt adapter. You can even charge via solar panels.

    I like it, I wonder if that daisy chain port that connects multiple yeti's together could be used for adding a one or a couple more deep cycle batteries, Rpod extra batteries, I have two batts in Rpod adding one or two more, to take advantage of sun when its out, and first two are charged, if so a connector plugged into that port, for base opportunity, and unplug for mobile, dual purpose, wonder if it has a MPPT solar charge controller in it, if so that may be better than the yeti 1250watt unit as it would be base, and mobile ready

    Minor point. The TV time should be adjusted to include powering the cable or satellite box most TVs need to work.

    these units with lithium batteries are excellent. i am wondering if extra lithium batteries, not leadacid batteries can be added.

      I see they have a new version of the 400 and the 1250 out with Lithium batteries. I am looking at one by Renogy called the Lycan.

      another impressive one is called the kodiak solar generator. can plug an RV and run off it. probably the most impressive one i have seen. goal zero looks good as well and they are doing some great things with providing power to the poor.

    Very good review.
    Love to find out how long your HAM would run under normal use Yaesu FT-817ND is RX 0.5amp & TX 2amp = 20watts~. Close to a laptop, so I would guess about 3hrs-15hrs?

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ran my ham radio for most of the day on my Yeti 150 with very little power drain. The Yeti 400 should run for a long period of time. Remember, you can trickle charge via the solar panels and usually receive very little drain on the battery if any depending on how many panels you have and the sunlight.

    • @brucewayne-cave
      @brucewayne-cave 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Worse case (low sun) you could talk every other day if need be.

    What are the older solar panels and newer panels? We're looking at the Trek 70 watt light folding solar panel, is that an old panel that needs an adaptor?

    There commercial on TH-cam shows it powering a refrigerator during an outage and a coffee maker. I serious doubt it will power a refrigerator though. The reviews always show a 1400 in a test. For home use, the only thing I absolutely need to power is the refrigerator. BTW, you can buy refurbished a lot cheaper.

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A small refrigerator. I will post a vid showing my Dometic Fridge running off it. The bigger ones like the 1000 and 1400 will though. I have had this 400 for several years. I also bought the 150 when it came out.

      What a fantastic set up. Personally I believe it is a far better option for many than a fuel driven generator. No noise, good output and no worry about where to get fuel for it if not available.

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The PNW Rider Thanks for watching. I like it because it is clean and silent and will power most of what I need. One can add a good Yeti Cooler to keep meds or other key items cold and you would be able to weather most disasters. Whenever you have to venture out for fuel you are risking your life.

    Yep this has already been done with the JuiceBox G2... Search for and check out the "juicebox portable solar generator" It's been proven for over 4 years and does everything the Yeti does and then some only better. And is waterproof when closed.

    What type of battery powers the Yeti 400?

    • @biblesnbarbells
      @biblesnbarbells  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ken Varney Thanks for watching. The Yeti 400 uses a 12V, 33Ah sealed lead-acit battery (AGM), and similar to what is found in your car. Here are some basic facts about AGM batteries:
      *AGM batteries should be kept full at all times.
      *AGM batteries last longer if you do not drain them completely. This stems from the "battery memory myth" in old rechargeable batteries.

    I have two 20w nomad solar panels when I go to plug in one of the 20w nomad panels into the input outlet, top left the blue light dose not come on . In addition even though the solar panel is directly plugged into the solar generator the input reads zero . I no there can be nothing wrong with either 20w nomad solar panel . so I do not no what to do . any input from anyone that noes about this . or is it that the nomad 20w solar panels will not work on the yetti 400w solar generator .

    Thanks for another great video. Looking forward to Monday when I receive mine. Question: Do you or anyone out there know how these operate with the Smart Meters (Not sure at this point if I have a smart meter or not but they took my analog meter off and stuck a smart meter on, then I called up to complain about it because I don't like those things for numerous reasons but they ended up putting a digital one back on) So just wondering IF I do actually have a smart meter - how that may effect the machine if I plug it into the wall.
    Thanks in advance.

    Anthony what is your point you're running the yeti 400 where the lead acid battery that's not the lithium-ion battery it doesn't even say it on the front of your Yeti 400 I don't understand why you made this video everybody wants to see the lithium-ion they want to hear about it how much later it is like 20 lb lighter they want it no and it lasts longer than the lead acid battery and it doesn't hold memory like the let acid battery does this is what people want to hear I'm sorry Anthony you're getting a thumbs down and we're not subscribing to your Channel
